Jiu-jitsu greats like Romulo Barral, Lucas Lepri and Fernando “Margarida” Pontes found great success with the knee cut in competition. Dealing with the knee shield while going for your knee cut pass can be frustrating. We cover a solution for this. This video also covers some of the simple options you have from this gi pass scenario.
If you can flatten their shoulders to the mat, look to pass. If your opponent is turning towards you, pin their base-leg and attack their neck. This creates a chess-like zugzwang scenario for your opponent.
