@@usaisnojoke This is bull. I have friends who make 50-60k who live in a really expensive area and are doing just fine. They have 3 kids. 2 of them are special needs. The issue is you want to live like you make 400k. For the record... yes.. I do make a comfortable living and I am very grateful for that. However. This year I'm budgetted to spend 17.5k for the entire year. I am single no kids. So yes that's easier. But I live quite comfortably on that 17.5 k. You could argue my low mortgage. I checked. If I refinanced today at 7%. And purchased a house under the conditions today. It would only add 7k. I'd be budgeted for a 25-27ishk year. And I live in an expensive area. 150k should give you about 100k net income. Where's that other 70-80k going? Just.. holy crap people.
It’s always been hard. My parents did without a second car and didn’t eat out. I think people today expect to have things that we did without until we built a better life.
i just don’t like how people use one example and say see. They are the exception and not the rule. Immigrant life is hard, so many times you want to throw your hands up and say you're done, what's the point. I kept going but I don't look down on those who gave up. American dream is possible but it's harder to reach. Literally every call Dave gets people are living a nightmare unfortunately.
And most of those same people who call are making bad decisions, taking on debt for immediate gratification, spending $500 per month at restaurants, etc. sure life is hard in general, but the rule, not the exception, is that if you work hard and make good decisions you will succeed in America.
No... the issue is a lot of people make really terrible financial choices. It's not any harder really. I did the math recently about what common things did cost when I was 18 & how much I made. I have all my financial records from 16. I'm a nerd. Basically I looked at percentage of income each thing took. And I looked at what wages are today for the same job. So if I was 18 again but today. The percentages are basically very similar. The conditions kids and your adults are seeing are practically the same. In some areas like utilities. My utility costs were nuts when I was 18. One of the apartments I was living in cost me roughly $400 in todays money to heat. It's insane. I have a house much larger than that apartment. My highest bill today might be $150.
They do, but millions of them don't want the responsibility for their actions and are so spoiled they think they are special and deserve to live like multimillionaire when they are in Massie amounts of debt.
True, most Americans think a difficult time is their morning Starbucks wasn't tasty enough, I'm American and I get beyond irritated with people who complain constantly about the most trivial garbage, thinking it's all important SMH 🤦🤦🤦

There is a reason people literally risk their lives and struggle and strive to come to America. It is a great country, but just like anywhere, requires hard work, brains and luck to succeed. You need some each component, but if you can figure it out, you can achieve greatness in this country
There are other countries that are more developed than the US. America has been circling around the country for years. It's getting just as close to being fascist.

As an immigrant I'm living the American dream. I have no debt except for my mortgage. Everyone on my job thinks I'm weird and cheap because I drive a ten year car and take lunch to work every day.
That not just me, practically all my extended family own their homes, some multiple homes, we are college educated. I finished my four years degree in two and half years by going to college locally at evenings and during the summer all the while working fulltime. We have a few everyday millionaires and one of my uncles how has only a 3rd grade education is himself a multimillionaire through real estate and his construction company.
I’m also a Filipina, single mom, I 3 kids and no any kind of support from their father. I work hard, debt free, I’m investing aggressively, I use coupons and cash back apps, I keep reading, watching videos and podcasts, for me the only difference between successful and unsuccessful people is the way they think. It’s their mindset. I came from the Philippines who doesn’t have food stamps, no welfare or low income housing. I came here in land of opportunity and there’s no way not become successful and reach your goal.
Is the American dream only for immigrants? Does it apply to Americans as well? Because the cost of education, housing, medication etc is less in less developed countries. So immigrants can equip themselves cheaply while the american poor will find it costly.
No its because immigrants have a better work ethic typically. I will say also that college cost are cheaper out of the US. Why I'm really thinking of having daughter one day go to college outside the US.
@@markg999 that's a ridiculous idea. Just do community college then transfer to an affordable school on scholarship. Much less complicated and more sensible. So take a chance on hard work, self-discipline, and education and you have unlimited opportunity regardless of "how smart" you are.
I’ve learned that if you are talking to someone who thinks the American Dream is dead more often than not you’re talking to a loser or someone who spends all their time hanging around losers.
The post war boom was when the "american dream" came to be, lasting from 1945 - 1970; the majority of americans were middle class with good wages and low inflation. With the onset of wage stagnation and then the failed economic policies of ronnie reagan, this all changed. Now its low wages, high taxes and high inflation. Its no wonder that only rich people think the american dream is still real.
I think we're rapidly losing our freedoms and it's probably so far that we can't reverse it without a massive sacrifice. But the truth is that even under tyranny, there's opportunity. You just have to look harder for it.
We have to bring loss of our freedoms to a grinding halt. Step one is to get rid of self serving politicians who do NNOT represent us nor adhere to our Constitution.
I am an immigrant in this country. I came 21 years ago and although I am not rich by any means, I have a nice life. And I am grateful for the USA. Dave, I also have an accent and some people tried to put me down because of it and make me feel like I don't belong in this ountry. But I do because with my hard work and paying my taxes and due, I help build this country stronger.
I used to think that as well, but what needed to change was us. We paid all our debt and worked the baby steps. We are debt free including the house now. We live beneath our means and live in a neighborhood that we can easily afford. Now life is less stressful. Somewhere along the way people just thought they deserved everything without having to pay for it. We get caught up trying to keep up with the Jones’s, but they are usually broke.
Debt is not normal people! It is not part of the American Dream. America is what you make of it just as life is. I am allergic to debt and will make no apologies for it. Everything I have is paid for. My late husband and I worked hard for everything we have, nothing was given to us. The freedom that it gave us is priceless.

I mean, sure, you can go to college if you work hard and get a degree in engineering, nursing, etc. But that is still ignoring the fact that the growing cost of a college education and a single family home and far outpacing wages in America. That's just a statistical fact. It's becoming harder and harder to find an affordable place to live. And if a large chunk of your paycheck is being eaten up by paying rent, it's going to take longer and longer to save up a down payment on a house.
Anything is possible in America. It all depends on how hard you work and not giving up. We all have to same opportunities some take it and some cry about it.

@john Smith having less opportunities isn’t based on race. It’s based on wealth and class. Ever notice that a lot of Asian, Indian, and Arab immigrants are very successful? For the record... yes.. I do make a comfortable living and I am very grateful for that. However. This year I'm budgetted to spend 17.5k for the entire year. I am single no kids. So yes that's easier. But I live quite comfortably on that 17.5 k. You could argue my low mortgage. I checked. If I refinanced today at 7%. And purchased a house under the conditions today. It would only add 7k. I'd be budgeted for a 25-27ishk year. And I live in an expensive area.
150k should give you about 100k net income. Where's that other 70-80k going? Just.. holy crap people.

No... the issue is a lot of people make really terrible financial choices.
