One thing these students are good at is rhetoric. they didn't learn nothing at school.
Robert Jack - I agree. This should never have been a meeting, informal or otherwise. A school posting, along with a reminder of the general policy of the school should have sufficed.
"Students scare employees?" - literally that girls conceptual understanding of that situation is that she's a child and they're adults. She doesnt even realize she is an adult.
I've come to realize that virtually all asshole behavior boils down to a victim complex: people who were probably treated poorly (victimized) as children who don't realize that they aren't the victims in every situation once they become adults, and are in fact capable of being victimizers themselves. It's what lies at the core of narcissism and other cluster B personality disorders.

Lol I went to OSU in 2016 and I didn't even know this occurred. I looked up a Columbus Dispatch article and this protest was all over the place. One group protested Israel's mistreatment of Palestinians; another protested that food served at OSU's meal halls were mostly from corporate/heavily processed sources; another group protested OSU's toying with the notion of outsourcing its utilities to outside companies, which would cost OSU employees their jobs. This must be why this protest didn't accomplish much in the long-run; if you want people to listen to your demands, you need a united message accompanied by logical/reasonable demands. Just randomly occupying a space asking for a million, seemingly unrelated, demands isn't going to sway minds. It's just going to piss people off.
It is nice how you actually addressed the issues and context of the protest. Almost everyone else in the comment section is a bunch of uneducated conservative fools who have no interest in what is actually going on. I am not saying the protest was justified. I am saying one should at least be interested in the context, not simply supporting administration because they like to see college students scolded.

Well, they know that what they are telling them will happen, is the truth, so they don't REALLY care if they stay as it will only hurt the students, not the University.
It's surprisingly easy to remain calm with idiots like these when you're there in a professional capacity rather than a personal capacity. Such has been my experience working security, anyway.
DoctorRobertNeville I think the administration took the right approach in this situation. Your approach is correct but doesn’t add the lesson they’re trying to teach these kids. University of Chicago did it better. They sent a letter to all incoming freshmen regarding situations like this and that they would be shown the door if they couldn't stand a difference of opinion from other students.
They all had parents that taught them that rules are negotiable on a case by case basis and they are all entitled to ignore rules they don't like and set terms as they see fit.
Xyre154 😂😂😂 you think kicking out what looked to be like 20-30 students would hurt the universities income? You’re wrong, very, very wrong. They make money off sports, food, merchandise. All of that on top of the enormous tuition you have to pay to go there.
Xyre154 colleges like OSU are so big that it doesn’t even matter. Their football team alone generates $90+ million dollars a year, their whole athletic department is rumored to have a net worth of one BILLION dollars a year, again I say rumor so don’t quote me on that, but the football team 100% makes $90+ million dollars for the school. So yeah they can afford to expel that many students. Colleges still receive money from former alumni through merchandise and ticket sales and some even donate large sums of money. So for you to say that OSU was just threatening these students because they can’t afford to expel them is wrong. Yeah this may not be the case for smaller colleges, but OSU is enormous, they have over 30,000 students. So to say that losing 30 students hurt would hurt them financially is wrong. Yeah they may not want to expel that many students because, and I will agree, that is a shit ton of money to just throw away but still, they can without a doubt afford to say fuck em and throw em all out. I will agree not every college can do this because with smaller colleges with only 10,000 and less student most definitely cannot afford that, and yeah I actually was high when I wrote that and I’m still high now and I just showed you how wrong you were. I’m done with this conversation.
Xyre154 you care way too much about this shit idk why you think anybody is gonna read all that nobody cares as much as you about something so pointless get over yourself

College is where people come to learn, work and study. It's not an open forum for those who want to protest. There are student leaders that you can go to and hold meetings to discuss displeasure. These are the acts of those who want to behave in a way that's not civilized. They didn't get any permission, they choose to subdue people trying to work and they are nothing more than a deterrent to those who want to learn and study. You have to read and agree to the student code of conduct. If you violate those rules then you have to suffer the consequences.
+stony tina I'd be willing to give them a second chance so long as the infraction was minor and not something obvious. I hate that whole "ignorance of the law does not make you immune to it" BS, as there are so many, I feel it is unreasonable to expect people to remember all of them. However, after I informed them they were breaking the rules, I would expect them to follow them. Again though, this assumes that the rule(s) they were breaking were minor and not common sense. Not knowing you needed a permit to protest isn't something everyone would think of, but not leaving when you are told you aren't allowed to be there, yeah, you should know how to follow instructions.
It's not ignorant to state the facts. It's ignorant to assume you know me to be a child or that I don't have information concerning such sit-ins existed. But to add to YOUR ignorance is that they have been against school policy then like they are now. Universities and college's are a place to learn not to preach. The parents are not paying for them to be there for any other reason except an education. The code of conduct is spelled out NOW, and they need to learn to abide by the rules just like they do if they ever decide to get off their asses and get a job. I'm pretty sure their employer is not going to allow them to do sit-in's if they aren't happy about having a slurpy machine over a koolee machine. Are we clear, ARE WE CLEAR!?
+James Bond after the Missou protests, they petitioned and successfully got their tests delayed because they didn't have adequate study time, due to their protesting. I say screw them. They didn't study because their time was taken up by extracurricular activities, that's on them. The fact that professors were involved in those protests is beside the point.

I think it's a lot deeper than that. I'm in this generation and it's difficult not to be more persuaded by this culture from a young age. It's in social media, celebrities, news, school, advertising, friends. It's ridiculously difficult to see any bigger picture than expecting everyone to perfectly fit in your idea of the world. It's a generational issue more than a domestic issue.
@@mitchderise73 I see what your saying, but I respectfully disagree. The PARENTS today are no where near involved in their kids life like they should. @@tellurye Home and society are not the same thing. Parents teach kids how to act around parents but teachers teach kids how to act at school. Life isn't externally tough as it used to be.

More over to my point, I would want to shut up a bunch of kids at any time of the day because they think they have a power without consequences.

I think it's a lot deeper than that. I'm in this generation and it's difficult not to be more persuaded by this culture from a young age. X2 Going to college and having a job at the same time really cut your time.
@Kenneth Miller what's your degree
They all cheat their way through college. The amount of kids I've seen in groupme who just use quizlet and chegg for quizzes and online exams is incredibly disturbing
They’re all probably like dance majors and stuff. Engineering, economics, math, pre med, etc majors including myself don’t have time for shit like this
Man these are not young adults. These are kids that have no idea why they are in college. It's like kids just go to college, not to get a degree, but to spend a shit ton of money to protest. 🤦♂️
In my day the conversation would not have lasted this long before expulsion things have Gotten out of hand
These children are laughing like it's a joke. They are so immature that they do not understand the breaking the law will cause them to be arrested. This is the first timein a long time that I have seen universities finally stand up to these thugs. They go to School here. But I do not own this institution and people need to be protected. Glad the school is calling them on this and not being politically correct. Bravo for the school. Finally
pandoras box they dont use their common sense
How can use they use what they never has to begin with?
I don't think "thugs" is the correct word to use here. Insulting people does not give credit to your point.
Joshua Garvey What's wrong with saying the truth?
Fuck the law
