- This is how the old Hockenheimring looks like today in 2014.
It is a comparison between the battle between Berger and Blondell in the 1993 German Grand Prix and pics taken at the old part of the track - Авто та транспорт
Am i the only one to be super sad about this :/
Me
No you arent :,(
I am to....
No! you' re not alone! it's a very shame that a wonderful track like this was ruined! I really don't understand why they don't have keep for high speed test or something similar!
When I read about the new circuit as a kid, I cried for nearly an hour...
And I didn't even know they would just demolish the old one...
Breaks my heart. Jim Clark's memorial is out there somewhere.
Hockenheim. Yet another unfortunate victim of Tilkisis.
+Treetop64 You should look up the Valencian GP from where Alonso won in 2012. That was terribly abandoned just after the 2012 race so theres still DHL Signs and sponsors and everything. What a shame.
Dominic D'Alesio But Valencia was urban so they just couldn't do what they did with Hockenheim.
ecclestone, and the stupid ambientalism who doesn't care art&history
@@DVDFerrari5 valencia was a city track
Last time I went to Germany I stopped by the H-ring and wandered through the old section of track. I grew up watching F1 in the 1970s, so being in the now desolate old section made me nostalgic and incredibly sad. I could almost hear the echoes of the past when just standing there.
My heart... just broke.
remember the V12s screaming in the forest? how sad.
The old Nordschleife and the old Hockenheimring were crazy Formula 1 circuits. But that made them so attractive. Just like Monaco today still is attractive because it is crazy. Formula 1 becomes too sensible and thus too sterile for spectators to enjoy.
F1 needs some of it's old "crazy" back.
Matthew Sinclair
Yeah like roaring V10's through the forrests of Monza, Spa and Old Hockenheim.. Those were the days. I dont even like watching F1 now anymore cause it is to casual.
Luckily Nordschleife still exists and is heavily used for racing purposes
urmo345 They use the proper one for Track Days and a special separate circuit for F1
maybe Singapore can be one of the current 'crazy' tracks with monaco??? considering conditions
I was only six in 2002 when the new Hockenheim made its debut but I still remember watching that race puzzled at where all the trees were. I remember watching the 2000 race at age four seeing Barrichello win and the 2001 race where Burti flew over the back of Schumacher. I was very young but it really saddens me to see this footage.
Same. As a kid I used to love watching them go flat out down the straights in the forest. Suddently they were gone. I remember thinking something is off. Years later, I found out what really happened. To be honest, Hockenheim is just now paying the price of what happened back then.
Old Hockenheim is the best better than the new circuit
After years of watching motorsports you get used to seeing tracks come and go, but I will never get over what they did to the Hockenheimring. Positively loved watching F1 on the old circuit. Hated the way they butchered what was a truly unique motorsports venue. It's unforgivable and unforgettable.
Now I watch Monza with tears in my eyes just because I remember this track.. Its okay that 90% of tracks are the same.. but there must be something else also there.. Monza&Hockenheim was best challenge for teams - engine, brakes, minimal drag and downforce, same time trying to get stable car in slow corners.. its completely different from "best average speed in fast corners" tracks all around the calendar.....
thats why i love Canada so much
I adore Monza, the configuration; tifoso...it oozes history & passion. Spa has it too. These great tracks are a dying breed
@@chrish8030 agreed. Canada is my favourite race.
Well this is sad a classic track left to rot.
left to rot? nice dream, the absolutely destroyed it and reforrested anything
This is so hard to watch. I remember playing this circuit on Formula 1 Championship Edition (F1 97) on the PS1.
tommythetreat000 Me too. And in Formula One 2001 pushing PS1 to the limit and making a game the quality of which was never beaten in PS2.
You can download it for Assetto Corsa game if you want to play it with nowday's graphics.
How it looks see there: ua-cam.com/video/fUcVr9G8f6Q/v-deo.html
You could hear the engines howl in Heidelberg, twelve km away.
Such a shame!!! Loved the old track, cars reaching 220mph. Gutted when they changed it.
The BIGGEST crime EVER !!!!
Instead of preserving it at least as a monument, the completely destroyed it. That doesn't erase the glorious memories though, nothing can do it. I'm sure the echo of the epic v10 & v12 cars screaming & the fans cheering full of exitement can still be heard through the forest.
JUST FIRE THIS BASTARD TILKE & MAKE FORMULA 1 A SPORT AGAIN, NOT A MERCHANDISE AS IT IS RIGHT NOW!!
+FormulaOneLive7 The biggest crime is what they did to Fuji Speedway.... there are a few video's of the old track knocking about on yt.
+UA-cam Käyttäjä it's not all his fault. With the older tracks they've evolved with the safety changes so they maintain their original character to an extent. nowadays Tilke has to design the tracks with the modern safety features built in, which means the seven million miles of runoff areas on each corner.
***** that does not justify the shit we are served today.. anyway
+minimilla Done the same to the Mexico track, and they wonder what's wrong with F1 today
James Gonzalez
The Mexico track is great. Especially when it goes through the baseball ground.
No this isn't right we need old hockenheim back. #makef1greatagain
Your level of 'meme-age' is pretty intense :P Oh what about F1 GONE SEKSHUAL HUH oh that's great idea ;) bring back dem pit sloots, dey was rael fab
What a shame. What a shame, really. A legendary layout vanished. This layout was as good as Monza still is.
They cut the soul right out of Hockenheim :(
That circuit was one of the best circuits ever. I miss it !
This is my favourite track ive been played in Playstation 1. The straightline was insane and the chicane was superb. I dont know why in the world they change the track. It has its own identity and i will miss it...
Tilke and Ecclestone Idiots, they kill a great and leggendary track!
Tilke was forced to destroy the old track
One of the best tracks in the history. Fast & tricky. The new Hockeinheim is much worse.
Although the new track is worse it's still one of the best teacks.
@@awesomecooly123 I think that it`s quite enogh to have GP of Hungary in calendar . No need in this hockenheim at all like its now . Its the same
RIP Old Hockenheim
Rip Hockenheim-Osterreichring-Fuji
Welcome fucking India-Korea-Abu-Dhabi-Bahrain-Mexico-Sochi-Baku-Valencia-Aragon
And Imola.
+RiSe SliD3r valencia is scratched too, Korea and India are not in the calendar but are being used
mexico has great tradition
Mr. Krabs yeah but they ruined the best corner
DON`T forget JEREZ GP.
Rest in peace Hockenheim :-) , it was a terrific circuit..
This reminds me of Cars when they're showing how Radiator Springs just degenerated over time...sad. It was a real race circuit before the travesty that was Tilke/Mosley/Ecclestone came along.
Bring it baaaaaaaaack
It brings a tear to my eye that this originality of this track is now gone.
that just makes me sad.... a legendary track this was....
Should have left the old track in place. I remember it well from the Playstation games of the late 90's, long sweeping flat out sections with tight chicanes in between. Surely you could keep it and run the new layout for F1 but leave the old one for sports cars and tourists. Now it's just a joke, too short.
Same here, I had the old layout memorized.. still do, actually.
If they didn't want to use the old layout anymore, that's fine, but why destroy it? That's the part that saddens me the most. Why destroy such a memorable track where so many legendary battles took place? It's a tragedy.
***** Probably had to do with money like everything else in this world. I'd imagine keeping and maintaining the old track would cost quite a lot.
Reminds me of EASports 99-2001. Epic game with great community support for engine modifications. I still remember editing a few files to make the Lucky Strike Honda car do 300+ MPH. It was so funny seeing it just come from the back of the grid and blast past the guy in the front doing 300MPH and claiming 1st from dead last. Ahahaha... especially the straights on the OLD Hock.
I'm still playing F1 97 on the PlayStation cause I only want to drive on the old circuits. I love racing at Imola, Hockenheim, Spa and Monza all the great circuits with history. Sadly the modern day Formula 1 just doesn't ave the same buzz it use to and a lot of that is because many of the European races are no longer on the calendar 😥
Mike Butt with some modifications (like making an oval curve in of the last section) the old circuit could have been kept easily for F1.
Deaf Bhoy I still play Formula One 95 (daaaamn Argentina was too difficult and Adelaide and old Hockenheimring ftw). My favourite F1 game ever. Together with Formula One 2001 in which I provoked a massive crash driving Alonso in the good ol' Minardi PS01.
There is no reason why they couldn't keep the original part of the circuit and use it for other series'. Such a shame.
For me this track always had something mysterious, in a dangerous way. The more dangerous a track is, the more the adrenaline it creates, and that's what we all love (we who like to see races on this track).
Unfortunatly that's not going to happen any time soon.
The problem (especially back in that day -year 2000) with this track, is that it's unique.
It's a one of a kind (in the Formule 1 championship of that time) high speed track.
The problem teams had, was that they build their engines, so -if perfectly done- the car dies when it crosses the finishline.
Because of this these cars were build for different type of tracks then the Hockenheim track.
A lot of drivers have complained afterwords about the hockenheim track, they have said usually only 7 or 8 drivers out of 24 (30?) made it to the finishline. Most of the cars that did not finish had engine failures, because of the long periods of time the engine had to perform at it's peak.
If teams had the money to build more then 1 type of engine per season, i think tracks like Hockenheim will be reintroduced.
Hopefully soon, in combination with v10 or v12 engines and manaul gearbox would be sweet.
I could cry
Those grassed photo's leave a real sad feeling. Would love to see the original layout returned because I have lots of childhood memories of this wonderful circuit, fast and unlike any other.
This circuit was amazing. I can only imagine how awesome races would be today on this track with DRS and KERS :)
I loved that old track!!!
some stupid people dont know what to do with old good tracks...Why they not saved old roads and why not opened for tourists?
its ridiculous still with the old things on new variation because they dont gonna use
Official reason, it was required to replace every tree that got cut down for the new track and the only space they found was on the old track.
Total waste of money. Should have just left as it was. Spa is even longer than this old Hockenheim track was so Bernie's argument with banner visual was BS.
Old Hockenheim circuit is better than new.
No shit Sherlock Doh
thank you captain obvious. why else would we be here watching this video..
Im agreed. 1000 times better than the new Hockenheim...
the reveal of the track made my jaw drop. this was one of the first tracks i "learned" from videos and games alas i dont really remember it now except for terror, the speed and the trees. so sad.
It break my heart to see that. That's very sad. I miss the old Hockenheim Ring so much!
this is so sad...i miss the old track:(((
The Ostkurve which shows it with a chicane here with Schumacher racing was where Patrick Depailler died on August 1st 1980...it was a very fast long bend with no chicane. He wrapped his Alfa Romeo around the armco, you can see where the spot use to be at 35/36 seconds...
Its deppressing how grassy old Hockenheim is today. I really get upset about that.
Tilke & Ecclestone, shame on you forever for what you did to this track!! no more to say
This wasn't completely their fault. The land was reclaimed and Tilke had to redesign the track to fit within the new territory. Considering the limitations he did a decent job.
@@gergelystechnicmodels8565 i prefer the newer track ngl
very good video thx for the up!
Old Hochenheim > New Hochenheim. Now it's just a shadow of it's former self, with nowhere near the speeds it once had, morphed into a modern (ie boring) circuit.
We are losing the days of exciting racing, seeing driving getting the drag down long superfast straights and outbreaking into the chicanes. The only tracks that still offer that is Monza and Spa. Nowhere else.
The music and the circuit and the old f1 it makes me cry
Viewed at the Ost Kurve At the the GP 1991. Walked all around the perimeter of the circuit that day 👍🏁
Remember the time of playing Formula 1 2000 on this circuit.. good old times
Probably I'm not the one to say this as i was born in '95, but the fact that many F1 track's layout are changed saddens me. I mean, look at that abandoned piece of history!
😪So very sad! I was born in the sixties and when I was old enough to understand what I was watching, Hockenheim became my favorite racetrack! I deeply miss the layout of the late seventies early eighties Hockenheim!
I'm living like 40 km(ish) away from the track and stood on the straight which leads to the Motodrome as a kid. That was at the 2001 GP, I think. So it was the last GP on the old track and I stood there at the fence, for free! imagine something like this today! I also think it's sad that they didn't kept the old track. Wow time flies!
Great vid!
What a shame...
I was expecting just some run down, cracked tarmac. But no... it's just gone!
CultOfRevan98 I know right? Hockenheim 2001- was as good as Monza, Spa and so on.
+CultOfRevan98 I still have a dream that some day someone(s) would rebuild the old trac... We'll see if that ever happens though
I still remember Alesi hitching a ride on someone's car after his engine blew up (when Alesi and Berger were ferrari teammates). This circuit was simply power, power ,power and hard braking into the chicanes. Just beautiful memories of those races!
Wow great vid!
They would make the motor racing world a better place if they refurbished the old section just for pure nostalgia, same way the Nordschleife still exists
I miss this circuit :( I miss the early 2000s F1 in general :(
see the Singapore gp :3
The "old" sections must be restored! The way they are treating them is calling for revenge!
I was strolling around the F1 app and checking the times and other info on Hockenheim, when i decided to go and see videos of the old layout. I was NOT excpecting this.
Me neither
I never grew up with the old hockenheimring, but looking at old onboards it looked miles better than that tilkedrome.
That brings a tear to my eye..
this is really sad to see. I started watching F1 in 2003, when the old track was already gone, but the new layout is just sooo boring. UA-cam is filled with videos which show amazing overtakes etc on the old Hockenheim, I wish I would have seen at least 1 race on the old track... it looks so beautiful
This was my favourite circuit. I enjoy touring cars more than formula one now, because F1 is like putting lions in a cage, the modern circuits just don't let the cars go.
i wish we could still play this track on the f1 racing games -.-
JACC I still do that in games ranging from 1988 to 2003. Specially 1995 and 2001.
Project CARS has a DLC that contains the old Hockenheim layout. You can use the Formula A (their version of F1 cars) on them :D
JACC automobilista has it as well. They also have some formula cars from different eras
You can download it for Assetto Corsa game if you want to play it with nowday's graphics.
How it looks see there: ua-cam.com/video/fUcVr9G8f6Q/v-deo.html
It's such a shame that this track was torn up. It looks awesome! Maybe one day, in the future, the original will be revived. Anyone fancy starting up a charity fund to raise the money to do so?
I was a kid when F1 moved from Nürburgring to Hockenheim after Niki Lauda's crash, and way back then, everybody said - oh no, you can't do that, the Hockenheim circuit is nothing but a test-tube-baby. And now everyone says about just the same track - oh what a pity we don't have it anymore, this was such a unique track. this is what memory does to You.
Richtig gutes Video ✌
I have Raced at Hockenheim since the early '70s & always Loved it. So sad to see what is has been reduced to now. It was a Great Track, now it is Average at Best. However, it still has a good atmosphere. Thank you, Herman
Any chance of bringing the old track layout back the grandstand at Germany is not full now they have to bring It back to younger kids into the sport
Wow it's crazy to see it like this
+Marco Mayer Kann man da frei hin oder muss man sich da irgendwie anmelden weils ein geschlossenes Gelände ist?
What is that song? please somebody tell me. I really like that.
i also would like to know
Who was the last person who got injured at the old track?
An absolute disgrace - Eccelstone bow your head in shame.
This circuit'd make part of my childhood
Although it's very sad the old track went and we're now left with the Tilke shit, i'm kind of glad that it never made it through the DRS era, there would be about 4 "false" overtakes per lap, instead of the close battle we saw in this video. It would lose something for me.
why was the circuit shortened???
Why did they shorten the circuit?
"The Engine Breaker" will be remembered. 😢😢😢
It makes me cry..
Da kommen einem als f1 fan echt die tränen :( super
whats the song?
Even better they should rally cross over it now
Yeah that'll work
I first saw the track in the game SBK 2001 n seriously got addicted to that track, this was the track that can make a race lover a die hard fan of this circuit, I really miss this track so much ,the ostkurve, the strech after the first turn. This is not what u should do to a Legendary Track, really a shame.😢😢😢
"How the old Hockenheimring looks today"
Welcome 2019
Astonishing i wish it never changed
due to safety issues. and also they wanted to generate more laps (44 old circuit, 67 nowadays) so that people can see the cars more often
made me cry
I was there in 2002 and the tar was already removed. Only gravel was there. (but the barriers were still there ;-) )
+MrBavaria It's something! Still sad though :(
Yes, F1 1999..I liked Hockenheim very much on that game, also Imola.
And portugal
I miss Hockenheim. It was my favorite circuit.
I understand that the Hockenheimring had to be shorted for safety reasons, however they could have kept the old circuit for track day events or touring car racing.
I’ve been to the Hockenheimring. Will always hold a special place to me, being that it was my first live Grand Prix and the fact it was such an incredible race (2019). But not just because I was there, but purely because that race was crazy, and anyone who watched that race would know.
The old Hockenheimring sure did look impressive, but it’s not all that bad today. The old Hockenheimring probably was better. I never saw a race there so I can’t comment, but the new version isn’t bad at all. If I’m honest, it is better than the Nürburgring’s Grand Prix layout. Of course, I respect and appreciate the Nordschleife for what it is though. A shame F1 can’t race there anymore. In my eyes though, Hockenheim is the German GP’s home.
screaming V10's at old Hockenheim, now we have lawnmower 6cyl electric things on the same track over and over, oh it's different track? I didn't notice
Keeping the old track intact and not building a new one would have been better option even if that had meant the track being dropped from the F1 calendar (which has happened now anyway)
A tragedy *sniff* I always hoped it would come back. Now this! RIP Hockenheimring
Looks like it wouldn't be impossible to re-pave the track if they wanted to. The space is still there and it should just run right around the new track while still being possible to run either layout without issue. I do understand there's probably greater costs to maintaining such a large area and that was probably one of the reasons why they didn't leave the old circuit in the first place but I don't think that can substitute the legendary status that the old track had. Whats done is done, and it sucks.
Hey bro...now vey nice !! Realy
