I think some of you guys need to take some F1 history lessons and also learn that it's not the number of overtakes by which a circuit should be judged.
@@armorgeddon Agreed. I don't get why people think you need a million overtakes in a race for it to be exciting. As for what they did to Hockenheimring its unforgivable
Look how much more alive these cars were! This was in an era where the driver could still make a dent on some circuits, under certain circumstances. I wish we would get back to having smaller (lighter) cars with much less grip. The engines were big and the cars light so that made them more "tail" happy and nimble. Current cars look like they are on rails by comparison!
The straights are now young forest, thanks to Bernie Ecclestone. It will never be the old oval track again. They destroyed the best circuit on the F1 calendar. Shame on you, Bernie!
They don't want it. Motorsport has been dying a slow death ever since the collective decided that doing dangerous things and accepting the consequences wasn't a 'good investment' or in some way socially irresponsible. Those assholes never liked open wheelers racing wheel to wheel at sustained high speeds on incredibly long straights, and many spectators inexplicably found long straights boring. Fools and cowards.
If one day they carve up up Mt Panorama or the Nurburgring, then, only then, will there be a greater travesty in motorsport then what was done to this track. All the finger nail biting from organisers, sponsors, and modern fans is why I hardly watch motorsport any more. If you don't like the risks of sustained high speeds, don't go racing.

This track was terrible. Straights and chicanes... I dont see the appeal. It might be better than a new tillkedrome but that's not saying much. Still, gotta love seeing the drivers slide around with none of the downforce they're used to.
The appeal is two things: 1- Straight + chicane combination may look boring at the first sight but getting through the chicanes right were very critical for a good lap time. Check out and compare drivers between each others based on how they drive through these chicanes. Then, it will make sense. 2. That was a atypical circuit that, most of the time, produced marginal races and results. This was true , not just for top running cars, but also for the midfield. Now , today there is no diversity in circuits and no diversity in cars specs. So, we get almost the same exact finish order race after race. That's boring!
If you don't see the appeal of a beautiful car trembling while doing 340km/h on a curvy straight through a forrest, then I don't know what to tell you.
Amen it’s about track diversity … even super boring Monaco because it’s so much slower and different to even slow tracks like Dutch and Hungarian gp has survived this long which it wouldn’t have even with its Prestige ……with Hockenheim the cool thing was it was the nearest f1 got to a supper speedway except it was fat was divided by 3 chicanes and had a grid straight and a stadium section bolted on … and if it rained it was like watching a wet oval racing- the banking 👌👌
And I forgot to mention what I miss most about 90s era cars …… you can guess which off the 16-18 championship track the car is racing at in maximum 3 try’s just by looking at photos off the car’s ( with track blacked out) front and rear wings …… no track had the cars running such small rear wings as Hockenheim with only monza looking anywhere close 👌
One off the few things I hate about modern f1 is tracks differences how got so narrow …… say what you like about indycar but they race on four distinct types off tracks 👍
Those forest straights gave it some real charisma! Awesome oldschool track... miss it everytime watching these clips
Title should read "True Hockenheim".
its a disaster to lose this beautiful circuit.
With DRS now and the long straights overtaking wouldn't be problem on the old Hockenheim if we still had it.
the old Hockenheim was a boring Noah's Ark engine race
No it wasn't.

For me those were the best F1 times, got so strong nostalgia watching this.
MeToo man, MeToo! 1989-2005 was just the best.

Formula 1 on Eurosport! Legendary
My favorite track. I miss it a lot 😔
Everything back then was better than nowadays: The tracks, the cars, the sound, the fans, the commentary, the competition, the excitement.
Imagine Max Verstappen & Charles LeClerc (and all the other modern drivers) on this circuit...faaark!
Amazing commentary :) John Watson is legend :)
Beautiful cars, so smooth :)
When Formula 1 made the best looking cars ever.
Way a go Damon that was amazing!!!!!!!!!! my champion.
beautiful engine sounds
The pinnacle of F1 was the mid 90's I think -- now it's been ruined :(
For me, the mid 90's were absolutely the best era of F1.
Same with NASCAR. The 80s and 90s were the best..
1984-1992
This was the best track! Should be in the grand prix calendar asap, amazing atmosphere, and going into the forest section 👍👍👍👍
very nice circuit and sound engine
Loved the old Hockenheim Circuit. The new one not so much...
@David Baker Because it‘s new?
this was better than today‘s F1. a lot better. a lot lot lot better.
my 3 favourite - Hockenheim - Monza - Spa...
I miss Hockenheim so much
Man do I miss those days of formula 1
Got to watch Senna battle Prost there in the early 90s. One of the perks of being stationed in Germany. Good people, good food, and Great Racing !
I miss this formula 1
Right front brake at 2:34 🔥
I do miss the old Hockenheim, so unique.
Schumacher in his prime. my gosh!
His car control was out of this world.
Your mother
Take me back to 1996
Fast flowing tracks and howling engines > light years better than now!
Can you imagine the straights with today's drs. Use to love this track
Clive James, legend.
Bring this track back!
The straights are now young forest, thanks to Bernie Ecclestone. It will never be the old oval track again. They destroyed the best circuit on the F1 calendar. Shame on you, Bernie!
Esse autódromo já foi o mais bonito que já existiu
Pra mim, o mais bonito principalmente essa parte da floresta.
Acabaram com ele em nome de nada.
@@timelorego4595 Concordo com tudo que você disse
3:14 car parked out of sachskurve was so nostalgic
What a mood in the Motodrom. And the old Hockenheim. Schumi and Ferrari. And today? Racetracks by architects. Terrible...
The old circuit had no chicanes or esses. They were later add-ons.
Clive James in the commentary box?
Yes. Brilliant man. Would reccommend any of his books. Did a few F1 video reviews in the 80s as well.
Missed that old design of that circuit
Mutilar Hockenheim , la mayor tragedia de todas.
Exhaust note❗️
Honda would have a great time here...
why they didn't rebuild it somewhere else completely , somewhere on plain field or something, I mean the same design of the track
Some rich chap with too much money needs to do it! Although it needs to have wood or similar scenery, in the desert it wouldn't be the same.
They don't want it. Acabaram com uma das pistas mais bonitas da F1.
Que pecado.
Spetacular...

Jason McMillan I’m the same I hardly watch motorsport to I only really watch the TT that’s about it.
Same thing lost the interest of Motorsport as they tv has gone to trash

Don't get me wrong, its a legendary track, but it has produced a large number of incredibly dull races.
