If music hadn’t worked out for Sid, I’m pretty convinced he would have had a bright future in Jackass
DEFINITELY
That put an absolutely hilarious image in my head 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
Fr he reminds me of steve-o
Sid: "I crawled over to Corey because he never beat on me."
Corey: I'm gonna bash your skull to the beat of the drums 1-2-3-4
Joey was so loyal and loved Slipknot so much. It's a shame that love wasn't returned in the end.
Yea after that second album it all went to shit. They forgot who they were and things they would promise at their shows that they wouldnt sell out talking shit kn record execs wanting them to make something more appealing to a wider audience and their response to that. Then that third album rolls around and they make something that appeals to a broader audience just for the money when they knew what their real fans wanted. Nothing but a pop band at this point
@@captinundies6049 I agree. I like the first album and Iowa only.
@@captinundies6049 I think Corey going back to stone sour creating whatever he could there did influence a different tone or process for slipknot after Iowa. I know every song off the first two records but I couldn’t do that with vol 3 and on.
@@captinundies6049 not true corey taylor said in a interview that he had to changr his singing style from the first two albums bc it was fucking up his voice
@@captinundies6049 you're not wrong, but also realize that this usually happens to a band when the members get sober/clean, stop acting out in extreme displays, etc. And how can you blame them. They get success and want it to continue, not pump out 3 great albums and then literally die or fall apart. Vol. 3 is a solid piece, I think they only really sold out with their 4th album.
One of the most influential Metal albums ever. Hands down. The "scary" atmosphere. The in your face agression. The insane lyrics.
It also got so many people into more "extreme" Metal stuff (including me).
It's still kind of a mystery to me, how this album became sooooo successful. Not because it's bad. Because it's so fucking heavy and aggressive for mainstream music standarts.
Whatever. Slipknot. Thank you for creating such a masterpiece 💪
Too bad they only had one good album left I them.
Sucessful because Ross Robinson.
agreed. that performance of "Scissors" is still one of the greatest thematic experiences I've ever heard. in ANY music.
@@kryzs_kornhell yea if not for someone coming in and telling then to pull their heads out of their ass. Mate feed kill sucked ass.
I'll help you solve this mystery: choruses that are super duper catchy, lyrics that a large % of people can easily identify & relate with, a vocalist who has a great singing voice & great death vocals.
A metal band who has great unique authentic songs will go far, but these 3 things I listed above will turn a great metal band into a top selling metal band.
What I’ve learned from this is that Sid’s role in the band is essentially punching bag
*and* pissing bag as well
ere e ere 💻💿
Now its Tortilla man
And Craig’s is head banging
I learned that Joey is a fucking pyro
Surfacing was the first Slipknot song I heard. I was on acid and it was one of the greatest things I've ever heard.
Saw them on acid a few years ago. Was fucking incredible
Watching a slipknot show on acid, one of my life's dreams.
I was on mushrooms at one point and was listed ing to them. Came to the realization that they weren't as great as we thought they were.
@@captinundies6049 sounds like a bummer of a trip
I was at this album release party at Hairy Mary’s in Des Moines when I was 15 years old. The show was stopped because a girl was taken out on a stretcher from being crushed in the mosh pit. I remember talking to Joey while it was going on and he was super worried about her. I’ll never forget that crazy day!!
Joey was a good guy
I have this gig on my computer and you can actually see when this happens. It's on UA-cam now I'm pretty sure
@@MASTAHMELO Have you seen a video on yt about it or uploaded one yourself? All these details mean a lot to me
Sounds like joey
For me self titled is the best album
Iowa second
Hands down🤘
Yeah, I think they're definitely one of those bands that peaked with their first album and then went on a steady decline. That's pretty common.
Agreed.. I stopped listening after Iowa
What about vol3?
@@isaiahholland1816 they Matured . 1st 2 albums were brutal for rawness Sake.
@@sashaalexa8907 u have a point there
I remember when Slipknot were a new and upcoming band. The years have gone by so quickly.
What do remember from that time? I'm really curious to hear every detail and especially how people saw n viewed them then before they became the big powerhouse band they are now
@@baydenjones2897 people viewed Slipknot as 'noise' at the time. People were scared of them especially the old people and Joey was the most popular member. I've still got my original Iowa from launch.
@@soundgarden6478 that's very interesting and helpful, that you for sharing. Do u know why Joey was the most popular?
@@soundgarden6478 I can't believe you got the og Iowa, that's badass!!
"No one fucking kills themselves like Slipknot." I'll never forget being front row during their self-titled and IOWA tours at a tiny House of Blues where my energy was through the roof. I remember Corey just fiending off of it and bashing himself in the face with the mic until I could see the blood seeping from under his mask and never losing a single ounce of energy for the rest of the show. I've never felt that connection with another band ever. I was 17 I think? 39 now and still unmatched. The only bands that have come close are Korn and Mudvayne where Chad opened the show with a dive into the mosh pit and performed the first song in the pit. Fucking epic.
I love how the band continues to evolve to this day with each new album, but man do I miss this era when they were like escaped mental asylum inmates.
alot of hardcore slipknot fans love iowa and consider it their favorite some others love sub vol 3 but the self titled is my favorite, although its maybe not as versatile as the rest i feel like its most raw, uncut, and experimental which makes it fun to listen to and never gets repetitive for me
Not to mention Corey's performance is so self destructive. Much more raw than anything else after. In a good and mostly bad way...
My favorite is self titled, second is Vol 3, and 3rd is Iowa
Its more Versatile than *Iowa*
Corey never beat on me then he banged my head into the ground💀
What a fucking day it was for Sid
They were insane live back then. On the Welcome to the Neighbourhood DVD with the extra stuff that wasn't on the VHS where they were setting themselves onfire, was at the show I was at in Portsmouth UK. It was a mental show. The place got destroyed and it was in the paper that there was £3K worth of damage done. I need to go back and read the original book they released about this album now. Most of these stories are in there I think. Joey talks about the fire and how there are tarantulas everywhere at Indigo Ranch.
Poor Sid, everyone's beating him, pissing on him omg 😂
6:02 I lost it when he said I crawled to corey because he's never beaten me... he then grabs my head and bangs it to the beat of the song hahahha
Still remember the first time I heard Slipknot it was overwhelming to your senses as if it were a drug itself. Those poor bands that had to follow them on their first album tour never had a chance 😂
Thats true. I saw them still touring off the first album, & they were headlining an all day show tour(Tattoo the Earth), where the openers were Slayer, Hatebreed, 7dust, Mudvayne, Sepultura, Hed(pe), etc... Slayer, for example, had been around for years.
I love how you put Joey Revolver "Slipknots late, great, founding dummer Joey Jordison" Nice touch, thats exactly how he should be remembered.
Back in the summer of 99', right after their Ozzfest run they did a signing at Rolling Stone Records in Norridge, IL. It's basically in the city of Chicago but a few miles outside. They got a smart idea and decided to change into their jumpsuits before arriving at the signing, and pulled their van behind a jewelry store in a shopping area. Someone saw these 9 dudes changing into masks and jumpsuits and called the cops thinking they were going to rob the jewelry store. They showed up almost 2 hours late to the signing because of this. Definitely my favorite story from this amazing and iconic era of Slipknot!!
I saw Slipknot at the Ranch Bowl in Omaha they opened for the Urge. No one knew who Slipknot was when they came out. Everyone was looking around like what is about to happen. That first song hit and the crowd went nuts! It was great and have been a fan since. I forget what year that show was but it was a long time ago.
1998
Was 311 in that show too? Because they're from Omaha and toured a lot with The Urge
This was the perfect gateway record when I was a teenager. It definitely helped me venture into the extreme sub genre, and I’m incredibly thankful for it!
Best thing they ever did. The energy, the production the whole mystic around them when they came on the scene. It was lightning in a bottle. That first album still holds up over 20 years later.
The first Slipknot song I heard in 1999 was “Surfacing” and I was 17 years old. I just remember thinking when I heard the Self Titled album and eventually seen their look, that these guys were absolutely insane!
This story comes from my brother, who saw them live in San Diego California before this band really blew up. Around/after the time of ozzfest. During the show the power went out due to the amount of power being used. My brother said he had never seen anything like their show and he was terrified and blown away at the same time.
Was this the Del Mar show? I went to that one in high school and remember the power went out at least twice. Sid was like 20 feet in the air, standing on their amps and beckoning the crowd before leaping out. At the end they threw stuff together on stage in a pile and lit it on fire, I think after the last power outage. They were banned from ever coming back, lol.
Still have the hoody from that day.
@@timgood9818 I asked my brother and he said yes this was the exact show. He said that Corey pissed on the drum set after setting it on fire. I remember having a windbreaker, the classic red one, for years after. Thanks for sharing Tim.
Surfacing is my all time favorite slipknot track and I’m very excited because I get to see them for the first time in four days. It’ll be bittersweet since Joey was my favorite member and favorite drummer of all time but I’ll still love it.
I remember when i first heard it, i was in art class drawing the cover of korns follow the leader, and a friend who has since passed away started chatting about the album, he never heard the debut so i gave him it and he lent me the debut slipknot album which was just out at the time. Was unbelievable stuff...still is!

RIP We love you Joey❤️🔥
RIP Pig too
This album introduced me to metal, still love it to this day.
first heard this album from a CD i found in the metal section at the local record store. that was my intro to slipknot. such a good album
Lmao the head gash story where "corey never beat on me" then "he banged my head on the floor to the beat of the music" was LOL :)
I saw then in 99 ozzfest on the small/side stage. We were about to walk past but saw8 guys in red boiler suits and crazy masks. And we had to stop in awe. Not only did they look cool but they sounded amazing
it was a different time back in the 90s.. lots of mall goth type shit in the youth,,, chains, spiked bracelet, ball necklaces, jnco jeans, dyed spiked hair, band tees, no internet to find material, mystery. It was such a fun time the late 90s. Remember being young and wanting to listen to the swear words or count how many there were in a song? Or the good old parental advisory sticker lol. Im rambling but fun shit
Feel lucky to have lived through it
Great video thanks 🤘
Favorite song: Me inside 🔥🤘
Was lucky enough to see them at The Agora in Cleveland, OH w the then unknown Mudvayne opening up in 1999. INSANE show.
Still to this day one of the angriest fucking records to ever be released. I’m a fan of grindcore, death, black metal, all that shit. And Slipknots self titled takes the cake for me when it comes to straight up raw, angry emotion of 9 fucking guys.
Because it's genuine , that's why it holds up so well
Ross is underrated for that album. You can see the kid has his ears.
@derping for americants And you're telling strangers on the internet what they should listen too.
@derping for americants I think you’re slow.
First concert with mudvayne before L.D 50 came out. Insane. Great memories
I was able to pre-order the re-release of their self titled on vinyl. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Saw them on the Iowa tour in England. Couldn't walk properly for days after the gig. Total mayhem but worth the pain. No one came close to the intensity they had back then. If the new album is half as heavy as their first 2 then it's going to be a beast.
It won’t be, til we die was taken from the same sessions this album was recorded during
It's still one of my favorite albums ever, thank you Slipknot for making such an amazing record
I always find it pretty hilarious when people put Slipknot under the Nu-Metal banner, they aren't at all, they're very different compared to a KoRn, they even have some more Death Metal influences. Just wanted to share this.
Aww they what a bunch of little scamps they were.
Seriously though, they're legendary and I don't give a fuck what any tryhard elitist says.
*S/T* has been my *FAVORITE* SlipKnot album ever since I was a senior in high school. And I *proudly* still own the 10th-Anniversary-version of it on CD with the bonus DVD *TO THIS DAY!* 💿📀 Maty, my *FAVORITE TUNE* off of it is definitely *PROSTHETICS!* 🤘🤘🤘 RIP JOEY JORDISON, HE WILL *ALWAYS* BE NUMBER 1!!! 🙏✌️🤙🪦😔
Saw them in 2000 in El Paso Tx. Mudvayne was the opener.
First and 2nd album (Iowa) are pure epic💯🤘
Not a huge fan, but hearing g their first album, when it dropped during my sophomore year. Never heard anything like it 🤘🏽☠️🔥
I did the same thing Corey did when he was a kid in terms of OCD, I constantly have to count to 5 on my fingers, and when i take steps i count in 5s, and when im trying to count how many steps it takes to get somewhere, i get uncomfortable if it doesn't land on a multiple of 5
I was literally thinking the same thing. I would do the same thing as a kid and still kinda do. Especially when I'm walking, I used to have to take steps in even and odd intervals and I had to stop on an even number with my last step on my right foot, since my right is my dominant side. I don't do it as much anymore, but I'll still count things in a room. Its interesting.
Cool story
Going to see SlipKnot this June I'm so hyped
These facts just progressivly get worse and worse. I love it
The first two albums are masterpieces.
bro with coreys ocd with the ods on left and evens on right i thought i was the only one that did that wow
#10 stood out the most. Literal battery charges after literally throwing batteries at Jim Root and Pail Gray.
Man I love hearing these stories ❤🤣🤣🤣
Caught Slipknot, Biohazard, and Mudvayne at Harpos. 99, Dec 3rd. Crazy ass show!
This is the first time I've heard about Corey's obsession with the number 8 that's fucking wild. I've been doing the same thing since I was 4. I don't have a reason for the number 8 though, I vividly remember the first time I latched on to the number and I still can't understand why, it's just such a good even number
Scissors is my favorite song off the album.
(Sic) 1st time I heard it I was hooked been a maggot ever since 1999
The beef with mushroom head is so fuckin over blown and neither band has said anything bad about the other
I watched them live in Greece this summer, the drummer and one of the percussionist got injured during the show
Ross Robinson is responsible for 4 of the best metal albums of all time and some of the best music to come out. Korn self titled, the first 2 Knot records, Roots. Hell the best Limp Bizkit album is his too. Machine head, Soulfly, Glassjaw, AT the Drive In, Deftones and countless other classics. That guy doesn't get enough credit IMO
Agree to f'ing agree. He is a god damn genius. Also did ATDI. Fu. King. Genius.
My favorite song on the album probably Scissors
There first album love it I considered it one of the greatest of all times I haven't really liked much of slipknot since then a few songs I hugely support them because there good for metal but it's also a sad thing when one finds out there not the brotherhood we thought they were just a business nothing more then any other band and I don't blame them just at one time I believed they were a brotherhood
Im obsessed with the number 12. I tried to always have the number 12 jersey in sports and I was born on the 12th day of December (the 12 month). My favorite college team is Virginia Tech (12 letters).
"No one kills them self like slipknot"
-gwar "rolls eyes"
👍🏽
Slipknots first album is Mate, Feed, Kill, Repeat
More like a demo
Yes it is a demo...AND ITS CALLED A DEMO, so in discography its not labeled "album"
I remember I had a book that detailed the band and the author followed them on their early days during their touring for this album and he said that they used to shit in bags on the tour bus and throw it out the bus window. That I truly believe to this day!
That's probably one of the tamest thing they did
interesting whats the book called?
But what does Corey Taylor think about Cory Taylor thinking about Corey Taylor.
Felt like god damn forever waiting for self titled to come out after their ozzfest debut.
Eyeless
Spit it out is my personal favorite
12 INSAAAANE stories!! #2 He loves the number 8, when he was a kid he used to say "I'm walking 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8...." and so on!! fuuuuck!
Anybody has or know anything about the Halloween concert or live tape 3:46 All I know is that it was called fright fest and took place in OK I think
Hands down my favorite band ever in life, ever.
Number 13 joey sets the world on fire
My older brother bought me a cassette in 2000 years after U.S.A bombs us,(Serbia)and said i like artwork that's why i buy it, check out how this band sound and tell me later, and to this day i never stop listening to them, they did one gig at my country on All Hope Is Gone tour but i missed it,my dream come true this July at Hills Of Rock Festival in Bulgaria not far from me,favorite tracks from this album Surfacing,Prosthetics,Only One.
REST IN PEACE JOEY JORDISON!!!!
Sid was like the Meg Griffin of the band back then.
Nu Metal era for life. Don't forget Static X
@derping for americants boo hoo some nerd is mad cuz it isn't TRVE metal?
U want heart and soul when it comes to music this is it
Slipknot is the icp of metal lol
8:46 You can hear the narrator/reader slightly laugh
Do you think Corey works the number 8 in his time signatures? If that even makes sense
I do the same counting thing constantly. 5 or base 5 numbers are my favourite. It’s actually really annoying and persistent.
Sid is fucking hilarious lol
Only one!
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think there are only 2 original members so good thing the band was even created.
DILUTED.
Corey did wear number 4 when he first joined
#1 isn't a prediction, that's called planning.
#4 i was saying the same shit that corey's friend was saying when i found out how they all actually treated each other. very disappointing, like i know everything sucks & ppl r shit & all but come on. not helping Paul before he died, seems the same with Joey. their lives, their issues, their problems right? while in environments that enable the behaviors & surrounded by ppl who turn their backs while gladly profiting off of their remains (except for the few who stayed trying to help them like Paul's lady...) also i hope chris does let sid piss on him before he dies, that'd b hot lol.
*Congrats to Sid & his lady on their baby too.
i was at the 1999 debut at OZZFEST camden nj.....best day ever
Slipknot wasn't at ozzfest in 98
They couldn't of been the first million seller on roadrunner simply because I remember machine head burn my eyes went platinum back in 94 they were roads at the time
My youngest daughter's middle name is Purity, which is my favorite song from the album. It was track 8 btw lol go figure
"before I die I have to let Sid piss on me"
Wonder if that ever happened
Wait and bleed, thats a classic
03:48 anybody know where I can find the video?
didn't find it in ten minutes of searching, but maybe some native english speaker will find it?
What every dread on Corey’s mask represent: substances, abuse, depression, anxiety, well, you get the idea.
They represent hair, nerd
True, that is until he glued the dreads onto the mask. Which is what he is always screaming against.
@@gonzalovidrio2826 You know Corey's dreads were never real? They weren't even made out of his hair. It doesn't even look like real dreads, it just apart of that slipknot costume. Not even real hair. Corey never actually had dreads, idk why people think he did lol. If he said he did, he's lying. His real hair always came out thru back of the mask.
Max Cavalera, Brandon Boyd, Sonny (POD), and Lajon (Sevendust) are some names in nu metal genre that had real dreadlocks. Corey's set was completely fake... It was created in wardrobe factory and specifically made for that mask. Too obvious.
@@steviesampah9803 LOL, that last part made me laugh because it's sooo fucken truee... 😂😂
Such an crazy, gnarly, fucked up album. Great af \m/
Saw them at Ozzfest 99. I was 14. Caught a drumstick. Bought the album a year before my schoolmates even knew about them or gave them a shot. They all talked shit about Slipknot and praised Limp Bizkit until they were on MTV then the so called goats showed their sheep side.
Surfacing on top of
