Touring, merch, and royalties from album sales is where bands make their money, and believe me...they made A LOT of money. So does the record label, but the record label is also taking a gamble with their money. There are a lot of bands that just go nowhere for any number of reasons. It's for this reason that so much trash music sounds exactly the same. Because record labels don't want to gamble, they just sell people the same shit they've been eating for years and they love it. They even try to get bands to try to gravitate towards the sounds that produce money. Which is why you see so many bands start out sounding fuckin awesome, then eventually sound like absolute overproduced radio rock trash. Stars are no longer discovered, they're crafted. I worked one of their shows back in 99 and Mick was the only one along with maybe Clown that was out on the floor interacting with everyone during pre show prep. Now I know he just didn't want to be around all of his bandmates. I did notice most everyone....keep in mind with 9 members it's difficult to keep track.... isolated themselves like primadonnas. It seemed there was stuff going on that Mick didn't want to be around even on that first tour. I still remember many of the things he said. Real cool guy.
Mick seems like such a chill dude. But get this a couple years ago him and his brother got in a fight n he got stabbed. As eddie bravo says "look into it"
I check in to rock feed here and there for news but it wasn't until now, with this exceptional piece on my favorite band that I decided to subscribe. Excellent job on this mini-doc man. Excellent job. Maggot for life! Edit: I can tell by your voice and conviction that this matters a lot to you. I know all things rock matter to you, but i think you too have a place in your heart for Slipknot specifically. Rock on bro
I'm only halfway through this video. But I want to thank you, Rock Feed, for making this video about Slipknot's history. This video has given me a new and deep respect for the band. I listened to their _Slipknot,_ and _Iowa_ albums in high school and loved the hell out of them. But then i ventured onto other bands and kinda stopped listening to Slipknot so much. Now, I'll start listening to them way more, with a new interest and passion. Thanks so much, Rock Feed...... 🤘 RIP, Paul Gray. :( 🥀
Is nobody gonna mention he already said "Corey decided to take his own life" already? And almost died? Yet everyone's talking about how he said "He decided to take his own life in a musical direction"
More proof that being a rockstar is one of the hardest jobs out there. It's rough and almost unavoidable that stuff like this will eventually happen, it's how you recover. RIP Gray.
Definitely not even close to hardest job man. Sure it has its physical tolls but especially nowadays you can plan more to your liking without force of a label What is hard it takes a lot of work to record and make good music and a lot of work to get heard. But I mean their struggles as a band is Literally all from drugs. Which is one of the easiest decisions on makes in life.

Sunny D He could no longer perform due to his health issue. No one knew what was REALLY going on at the time with his health as he hadn’t been diagnosed yet. I became curious about the band after the game “SMITE” had done a season with skins of the band members. Now I know their history and really respect the band even more! Thanks again for uploading this video!
Great documentary bro. I was unaware of the fact that the entire band struggled with substance and alcohol abuse. Crazy thing is vol 3 is my all time favorite Slipknot album. The ecoterical lyricism from Corey got me drawn to metal even more, this album has a special place in me as a music head. That being said, I'm so glad that the members of slipknot are in a better place in their lives. This goes to show you that something tragic in your life has to unfortunately happen so you can learn from it and therefore be more humble and compassionate. Clown said it best: "the word "I" is the most satanic word in the world, and you will only focus on me me me. Music was always a we thing to me, I never wanted to play music for myself.” Damn man that shit is deep. To all those struggling with abuse, keep moving forward and don't give up. One step at a time.
RIP Paul Gray. The writing and narration of this video is more painful than the struggles Slip faced. If this was a silent film, it would be 1000x better.
So that equates to what: $6,111.00/year per band member for 7 years? That's some serious low-balling ignorance. Why didn't they just say no to that? Probably making decisions in a drug-fueled haze will do that.
That's just record sales, bands rarely make money on the records themselves, that's why bands ask for support by going to their live shows and buying merchandise. That's where the real money is for them, not the record itself. Not until they're really big anyway.
I’m just getting into this band and I decided to watch this. Damm. This band has such a dark past to it. Vol. 3 one of my favorite albums finding out that terrible stuff happened during the writing of it is like.... wow. This whole video is so sad.
Big respect to the band for hanging on and dealing with grusome tough times.
You put so much work in that video and it's wonderful job. Greetings from your Polish fan :)
I wonder how many times they've puked while wearing those masks.

The Thomson story about isolation was deep
Sounded a lot like me already liked the dude but like him even more very relatable
it makes me respect him more, shows how humble he is

I'm only halfway through this video. But I want to thank you, Rock Feed, for making this video about Slipknot's history. This video has given me a new and deep respect for the band. I listened to their _Slipknot,_ and _Iowa_ albums in high school and loved the hell out of them. But then i ventured onto other bands and kinda stopped listening to Slipknot so much. Now, I'll start listening to them way more, with a new interest and passion. Thanks so much, Rock Feed...... 🤘

they just dropped a new album in October 2018
They fired joey over email so imo they arent worthy of praise anymore. RIP slipknot

He could no longer perform due to his health issue. No one knew what was REALLY going on at the time with his health as he hadn’t been diagnosed yet.

Jesus 7 albums (7 years) $500,000 // 9 members - $55,000
That same deal was originally offered to Mushroomhead in 96, and they turned it down...but you see who got the better career in the long run.
Plus record sales I imagine. No record label is gonna pay out the ass until they know your records will sell
lol...where the hell did they get the money for booze, drugs, and poon???
So that equates to what: $6,111.00/year per band member for 7 years? That's some serious low-balling ignorance. Why didn't they just say no to that? Probably making decisions in a drug-fueled haze will do that.
That's just record sales, bands rarely make money on the records themselves, that's why bands ask for support by going to their live shows and buying merchandise. That's where the real money is for them, not the record itself. Not until they're really big anyway.
Another awful thing to happen :( RIP Joey, you legend.
