A few years ago I was in the studio with my band recording and when it came time for vocals I was frantically writing lyrics. My drummer asked me what I was doing and when I told him he seemed surprised because we had been playing that particular song live for 2 1/2 years . He asked me what were the old lyrics then . I told him there never were any, I was just up there making shit up the whole time Nobody in the band had any idea and they all started telling me what they each had THOUGHT I had been singing about and to be honest, some of it was pretty good. Love The Melvins, bravest band on the planet. They'll do whatever they want to do and nothing but.
I used to do the same thing, too. Lol Played songs at practice for months, live shows, etc - with no actual lyrics; just melodies and making stuff up. Then we would get to recording and id have to literally write lyrics after the tracking was done 😂
At this point it is clearly evident that buzz doesn’t need anyone to write songs for him !!!! 41 years of making albums at a alarming speed and never being a low point in there catalog!!!!
I just downloaded Houdini after seeing this interview. I always knew the nirvana connection. I should have looked into the Melvin’s decades ago. Holy crap what a fantastic record.
Stoner Witch was my sophomore and junior years in high school . Not to say it was released during those years. I was class of 2005 so that album and the whole Pacific North West-alt rock wave of popularity had been receded nearly a decade by then but it really fascinated me far beyond was what would have been considered contemporary at the time. 2000's MTV couldn't hold my interest. I got really into Mudhoney and Jesus Lizard and L7 Fantomas and The Melvins. I meant Stoner Witch is basically what I listened too all the time every day for those formative years.

@@Balloon_86every dumbass is wearing a walmart nirvana shirt. that's why
@@Balloon_86 Sure, it isn't interesting and in most cases when talking about the Melvins it's entirely irrelevant. But Cobain was very much a musical child of Buzz, Buzz introduced him to punk rock. Fact of the matter is, that Nirvana was a massive, massive band and unfortunately it's now nearly impossible to talk about any music from that era and scene, or adjacent scenes, without bringing up Nirvana or Cobain. It sucks, but that's the world we live in now.
And Nirvana fucking sucks shit, they should never be put in the same sentence with Melvins
I haven't listened to that Kiss album in years. Listened to it all the time when I was 13 in the 70s. He is right about that song, Strange Ways, but my favorite song on that album was always Parasite.
Always loved Got To Choose. Amazing soul jam and Gene’s backups are insane
My favorite KISS studio album. "WATCHIN US!!!!"
Just saw them in Baltimore! They played Hooch! Loved it! Wish they woulda played Lizzie and goin blind too
God damn, i appreciate Buzz's honesty and just being a real human being. i am sorry that he still hurts over the Nirvana element. How could he not.
But i am not lying when i say that the Melvins, Buzz and Dale, are two of the most influential voices in my musical taste today. This is real post punk, punk rock mentality.
My all time fave Melvins album not a dud on it still in regular rotation! I'm seeing them next month , Dale's out but bummer!
I saw them on this tour and I have to say that Coady Willis will not disappoint you. He was in the Melvins when they teamed up with Big Business and had two drummers. He is the perfect player for the job. Have fun
What happen to Dale? I'm seeing them Sunday with boris
@@C_Jj_G Dale's recovering from back surgery or something like that, AFAIK he's doing good but out of commission for a while
@@nite_goat dang . I hope things go well. Drumming can be hard on your back. A good throne helps
@@C_Jj_G He had spinal surgery Coady Willis of Big Business & High On Fire is going to be behind the kit. I'm seeing in a couple weeks myself.
I love their music since 91.
Lol
Played songs at practice for months, live shows, etc - with no actual lyrics; just melodies and making stuff up. Then we would get to recording and id have to literally write lyrics after the tracking was done 😂
I LOVE THE MELVINS
I just bought the reissue on vinyl last month. The original is $100 +. Might be some reissues still available
Nice..
Houdini is absolutely one of my favorite albums of all time.
I need to give this bad boy another listen.
At this point it is clearly evident that buzz doesn’t need anyone to write songs for him !!!! 41 years of making albums at a alarming speed and never being a low point in there catalog!!!!
How are people saying they are underrated? Everyone loves the fucking Melvins.
This album changed my musical perception; in fact, Honey Bucket was the first song I learned to play on the drums.
I love Houdini but Stoner Witch is probably my favorite Melvins album. They're all great though
It sucks that Buzz won’t be fully appreciated until he’s dead. Dude is a goddamn living legend!!!
Real fucking talk there sad to say
Truth
He would make a great professor
I keep having this recurring dream where I'm the master of ceremonies in a deathmatch where we round up all the world's billionaires and they fight to the death in a football arena. Winner takes all. I usually have the 7 inch version of NIghtgoat blasting on a loop over the sound system. Seems like the perfect song for such an event.
Great album 🖤
Buzz is the most level headed person in rock a true role model.
Can we get an "at home with the Osbornes" show. Id watch
