As someone who lived a long time in Mississippi and went to the U of Mississippi, I spent the first half of this video wondering why you were talking about something in Yoknapatawpha County as if it were a true story. This was fascinating. Even growing up in the area, this one was new to me
I remember getting that self titled album in 2003 and being confused when I downloaded a song called Purity from KaZaA, which was labeled as being on that album, and yet my copy didn't have it. I haven't thought about that for almost 2 decades but it's neat to have an old mystery solved out of the blue.
All this ridiculous story aside, this is actually one my fav slipknot songs. The haunting chorus, Joey’s drum intro (rip) and that guitar riff, on top of Sid’s record scratching in the later half of the intro is absolutely phenomenal…
I genuinely got uncomfortable and creeped out in a way horror movies never manage. I nop'ed out of here as soon as you were about to play voice recordings, thankfully after lying awake for awhile the skeptic half of my brain told me to check wikipedia. Really good job telling the story dude.
@@saracha-sauce I was thinking more along the lines of where that specific jar could have inserted and perhaps been had it structure comprised, causing it to shatter.
I remember when I was around 14 I ordered a copy of the album from Amazon for five bucks. Later on, I was talking about it with a friend who is a massive Slipknot fan and when I started talking about Frail Limb, he was like "Wait, you have Frail Limb and Purity on there?" I said I did and he told me that those songs were removed on later releases and that I had one of the original copies. It goes for like $50 now.
I had a copy like yours, purchased it in early '00s and for some stupid reason, I lent it to my younger brother's (at the time) girlfriend. You can imagine what happened a few months later -- they broke up, and I've _never_ seen that disc again. Decades later, I am still kicking myself over it. I've learned my lesson the hard way, I am never lending books or CDs ever again.
Purity appears to be now a staple for the album as its on the 10th anniversary release but frail limb doesn't seem like it's ever seeing public light again (at least as an official track)
Nostalgia overload on this one, man, haha. I got the digipack in high school in ‘01, but missed the initial release. I only heard the song online, and on Disasterpieces. I actually didn’t realize that it was a fake story. I didn’t follow up on it. Thanks for making the video, dude!
I had no idea this happened!!! Great video. Love slipknot, they got me through being abused as a child/teen. Later I would watch an interview with Corey describing the abuse he suffered as a child/teen and it was sadly similar to what I went through. Bands like this can save lives ✌🏾
Loved slipknot when I was a kid and young teenager never knew about this. It would have probably made me even more interested in them. Well should have watched the whole video first. Can’t believe it was fake after all that I went though in 5 minutes.
I personally felt the whole section of you mentioning Slipknot being your favorite and dubbing their self title album . It was literally the first band that made me like metal and I was just as obsessed. Dubbed tapes from the CDS for myself. Music was never the same for me after that.
The UK release of the digipack had both tracks on it, I still have my copy and just checked but I do remember a lot of my friends not knowing the song Purity because their copies of the album didn't have it. It has always been my favourite song on that album.
biggest plot hole in the Purity story is the kid.. yeah.. let me write a letter for this kid to deliver to someone specific who this kid doesn't know and who just happens to be carrying a piece of paper and pen in the middle of the woods. Doesn't matter how delusional or near death you are, you'll simply tell the kid to go get help. And if the kidnapper stumbled on the kid who he knows discovered Purity.. he'd either kidnap the kid too or quickly relocate Purity elsewhere.
I got so excited when I saw this video pop up in my recommendations bc slipknot is a HUGE hyper fixation of mine and I love ur videos, I got so overwhelmed with excitement I couldn't finish the video 😅
I absolutely loved Slipknot as a kid, and when I saw that you'd uploaded this video, I gasped and then told the entire "Purity Knight" story to my gf and then sat down to watch it. Thank you.
Faulkner died in 1962 so he didn’t write it. But that makes it funnier to me that they’re objecting to SlipKnot being inspired by their story when by that logic you could argue that they stole from Faulkner
@@lotofmalarkey434 No, Frail Limb Nursery was taken word for word from Crimescene and placed into the song without credit for profit. Crimescene never has done that to Faulkner.
I loved this song so much growing up (along with the entirety of the S/T album) that I was going to get the word ‘purity’ tattooed on the side of my hand but.. I figured it would’ve been misinterpreted by just about everybody beside the few who were aware lol xP I’m currently preparing to cover the whole album in one take on guitar (some day I’d like to do all the instruments plus vocals)
I have added you to my featured channels list for your interesting stories, keen eye for investigation, and fact checking skepticism. Always nice to see a fellow cynical eye cracking down on the mysteries and rabbit holes out there.
Purity is my favorite track. The first time I saw them was at Ozzfest in 99 in Clarkston, Michigan. The next time was in Detroit at Harpos theater. We ended up being late. And walked in just as they were going into Purity. Cory was talking about the origin of it. It was powerful and creepy. It was stuck in my mind forever. Even after I knew it was just a story.
So, weirdly enough I heard about this a number of years ago from one of the website's actors. He was a teacher of mine and played Ed Pierce. Funnier than that he had only an inkling of how involved Slipknot had become.
When my husband and I was in highschool our friends group, including him would wear Slipknot shirts and the should have retired by then history teacher asked if it was a gang and would joke that we were in the "Slipknot gang".

Um I was just about to play the Iowa album by Slipknot as I got the notification for this video. The timing
Trippy. I was listening to the slipknot Pandora station when i got the notification. How does Whang know?!
I was just on a walk listening to all hope is gone
The slipknot stars have maligned.
Synchronicity is trippy as hell
Damn stuff like that just happens sometimes which is amazing
Thanks for putting this together, I’ve been a hardcore Slipknot fan since I was a young kid but I actually learned a couple things from your video.
did not think Faulkner would factor into this, but I'm strangely glad he did
🎶YOU CAN’T KILL ME!
CAUSE I’M ALREADY INSIDE YOU!🎶
-Corona 2020
Great comment but I hate myself :/
I won't let this build up inside of me.
lol I literally said that Slipknot predicted covid months ago and used those lyrics 😂
I remember getting that self titled album in 2003 and being confused when I downloaded a song called Purity from KaZaA, which was labeled as being on that album, and yet my copy didn't have it. I haven't thought about that for almost 2 decades but it's neat to have an old mystery solved out of the blue.
Kazaa was awesome
Apparently my family has had the og release since 99 and I grew up not knowing this story til now lol
Shoutout to that quick sampling of earthbound. Also - you seem like a really cool dude. Would totally have a beer with. Subscribed. 👍🏻
"If there comes to be a day where I release my own jars"
Jars huh 😏😏😏😏😏
@IvyBansXI you don't care what's in it? Not even a my little pony along with a specific substance?
@@saracha-sauce I was thinking more along the lines of where that specific jar could have inserted and perhaps been had it structure comprised, causing it to shatter.
Cream of Sum Yung Whang LMAO
I feel like the song purity felt more like a guy being isolated in a room and slowly losing his mind. Did anyone else think that?
Nah he was social distancing
The voice says I'm almost out of minutes We are all Purity now.
@@VladTepesVEVO Damn dude, you lost your CD and didn't even get some sloppy toppy, now that's a crime.
I have flashbacks every time you say "jar".
My ass hurts every time he says jar
@@Weedleneedle Oh no
Nostalgia overload on this one, man, haha. I got the digipack in high school in ‘01, but missed the initial release. I only heard the song online, and on Disasterpieces. I actually didn’t realize that it was a fake story. I didn’t follow up on it. Thanks for making the video, dude!
You all stare, but you'll never see
There's something inside me.
I am in a buried kennel. I have never felt so final.
You all stare
But you'll never see
There's something in you I despise
Kristina Neuner- Cut me, show me, enter
I am willing and able and never any danger to myself
What gibberish is this?
Altars of Blandness seriously? you’ve got a Death profile pic come on my duderino. It’s the song from the video you’re watching.
Thank you!! Absolute love this song and mate feed kill repeat. I’m so happy you are talking about this
If you liked MFKR, Anders' band after Slipknot, Painface is worth checking out.
2:29 that sonic sound track got me soo hyped
Khole music
I had no idea this happened!!! Great video. Love slipknot, they got me through being abused as a child/teen. Later I would watch an interview with Corey describing the abuse he suffered as a child/teen and it was sadly similar to what I went through. Bands like this can save lives ✌🏾
Props for using my favorite in the background, vermillion part 2 ❤
That crying wrestling guy, " Its still real to me damn it!"
LoL
I always love whang vids about the late 90s and early 00s
Slipknot is my favourite band. How the he'll did I not know about this?
Corey Tylor said that purity es based on unboxing Helena, just search Corey Tylor talks on purity.
I was like 12 when i got the album and 100% believed everything about the story till now and im 32 years old lol
Loved slipknot when I was a kid and young teenager never knew about this. It would have probably made me even more interested in them. Well should have watched the whole video first. Can’t believe it was fake after all that I went though in 5 minutes.
*"How the he'll"* indeed.
Stuff can be hid pretty easy if no one talks about it
I personally felt the whole section of you mentioning Slipknot being your favorite and dubbing their self title album .
You were planning on wearing that collar yourself, weren't you?
👉👈 sounds kinky
@@bobcooper82 You just had to make me wonder if Whang is a dom or sub, did you??????
My eyes hurt after reading what I wrote.
@@masicbemester Whang? He's a dom.
@@bobcooper82 You're right
biggest plot hole in the Purity story is the kid.. yeah.. let me write a letter for this kid to deliver to someone specific who this kid doesn't know and who just happens to be carrying a piece of paper and pen in the middle of the woods. Doesn't matter how delusional or near death you are, you'll simply tell the kid to go get help.
And if the kidnapper stumbled on the kid who he knows discovered Purity.. he'd either kidnap the kid too or quickly relocate Purity elsewhere.
Tbf the story said she told him to get the pen and paper, he didn't already have it
9:15 "How do you copyright a murder?"
That is the question of thousand dollars, Whang! hahahhahhaa
OH MY GOD. I've recently become a huge slipknot fan, and I would have never expected you to make a video on this!
hands down my favourite slipknot song. great video!
"And then you wake up and you're dead"
Ah, yes.
that was morbidly hilarious :)
yessssss that’s metal AF
How you gonna wake up dead
@@bitty_beastly47
that's the joke
Persephone Muzingeaux I deeply connect with that.
i was listening to it right RIGHT before getting notification for this video
god damn you whang and your mind control!!
I had a feeling something was going on, there's already like 2 serial killers inspired by the collector...
Thank you.
Purity has my favorite lyric ever..."was my tolerance a phase, empathy outta my way...I can't die!!!"
Frail LIMBS Nursery. 😂 I also remember when one review of the album in a music magazine at the time called it Frail Limb Misery. 😬
I can't imagine being Faulkner, and not being just really proud that your thing had impacted anyone that much.
"Purity Knight" and "Valerie Wilson" sound like characters you'd interrogate in a Nancy Drew game.
Whang, I stumbled upon your channel PURELY at random. Though, I must say; you are my new favorite youtube personality. Really solid content, man.
The use of earthbound music kinda spoils the surprise of this story. Though I guess it is also foreshadowing a little bit.
I loved this song so much growing up (along with the entirety of the S/T album) that I was going to get the word ‘purity’ tattooed on the side of my hand but.. I figured it would’ve been misinterpreted by just about everybody beside the few who were aware lol xP I’m currently preparing to cover the whole album in one take on guitar (some day I’d like to do all the instruments plus vocals)
purity is my favorite song off that album - so dark, gave us a taste of iowa
AYYYYYY I SEE THAT GERARD PFP
Love your use of early NES and SNES music like Deja Vu and Cyberpunk. Keep up the great stuff!
Thank you for posting this, as a kid i was obsessed with this story.
You should do a video about the album "Neidermeyer's Mind" by Korn. Where it is and what happened to it...
5:55 looks like my boy Chris Barnes on the top right corner.
Dude, your channel is like snacking on ‘member berries and I love it. You are a national treasure.
I was listening to "before I forget" before this vid.
Thanks! I’ve been looking for more on this story. An unnerving story that ties in with one of my favorite bands of all time.
This channel is really good, I can binge these videos for hours.
