That time i got reincarnated as a hot take
after witnessing Garnts and Connors take on german food I finally understand why their show is called Trash Taste
As a brit with quite a lot of experience with German culture: the 51:30 living bread is supposed to look ugly and sad, because it is canonically depressed and suicidal all the time. The joke is literally how miserable it is and how much it hates everything. His favourite hobby is watching the paint on his wall and it just despises fun. Basically a bread in a mid-life crisis, targeted towards kids, but understand way better by adults
It just gets more and more German the more I learn about this German childhood mascot 😂
Well alot of theair fairytales have bad ends
Bernd is on the kids channel but he’s the closing show that plays in the night so it’s not exactly targeted towards children
@@crasyfujoshi1312 I don't watch TV anymore but Bernd was part of a regular kids TV show many years ago, sharing screen time with an explosively adventurous sheep and a nerdy bush. It's quite possible he's now reduced to only that closing show but he was made and used for a kids show before.
The older I get the more I relate to him. same with Squidward kinda.
Of course, just when Garnt takes back a bad take, he brings out another one!
Perfectly balanced, as all things should be
He's collecting bad takes like the infinity stones.
Let's be honest. One of the major reasons we come here each week is for bad takes.
He never changed his mind 😂
I lived in North Germany... so his statement is not that far off the truth... in reality both germans and english just go to the local indian curry place or turkish döner place
To be fair, Berlin is probably the worst place to go if you want an authentic German experience, it's just so different compared to the rest of the country
even so i dont think their would be anyone who watches trash taste outside of berlin for them to visit there but yeah you're right
@@ivantheorywhy not? The highest population density is actually in North-Rhine Westphalia (more people->more potential viewers), so a Cologne show would have probably also went well
@@sophielikestea yeah wouldve been cool if they went but they probably just choose berlin since its the capital :/
Garnt said he tried the food in Cologne as well
They should have come to Munich for some good ol' Bavarian Supremacy and true capital of Germany. xD
Garnt: "We are not doing it based on the entire cuisine - just what we ate"
Also Garnt: *Rumbles about the whole British cuisine trying to make statement that it's better than others*
Not even just that lol, he was reaching so hard to allow modern and foreign foods as "traditional british cuisine" that if we're holding everyone to that standard the best cuisine is American, because theirs would just include literally everyone else's
@@cass8163to be fair, I think curry is actually their national dish 😂

Can't believe they didn't talk about how Garnt had to defend his all bread tastes the same take in front of the German crowd and was barely audible above all the booing he got. And Joey literally didn't have to say anything arguing against it and got a standing ovation. The best part was the judgment when Connor asked to cheer if you agree with Garnt, the crowd was DEAD SILENT. Like they said they never had a crowd that silent before. Needless to say Joey won that round lol You'd think getting booed for one minutes straight would traumatize a man enough not to pick fights with the Germans again, yet here we are...
I fear for his safety for the next time he visits
Same thing happened in Rotterdam when Garnt had to defend light mode being worse than dark mode.
Then Connor had to argue in favour of dark mode, and all you heard was cheering. The death blow was Connor saying "You know who else use light mode? FRANCE"
And that got a standing ovation, we're terrible in the best way lmao
its almost like if you ask a home country about their food they'll have a positive opinion 🤯
He is in total denying.

On behalf of all Americans, I thank Connor for defending the honor of the Costco hotdog. God bless you 🫡
Fr that and the pizza are quality af for the price
Edit: I realized I spelled Costco as Costo. I am renouncing my citizenship and jumping off a bridge.
@@bluebell560that shit better be the golden gate bridge then
I'll rep it all day. Here in australia we have a couple costcos around the country, went to one and the pizza & hotdogs were great. idk if they're the same as over there but I loved it.
As an American I feel I need to renounce my citizenship as I have NEVER been to Costco. 😢 I hear it's the Disneyland of grocery tho.
49:30 Fun fact about that German mascot: The voice actor and puppeteer lives in Sweden, I know him, I've celebrated holidays with his family before on several occasions. Dude's really chill and humble. I literally found out from this podcast episode that Bernd Das Brot is a big thing, cause he always just talked about it like a fun little project he got to work on
That’s actually super interesting, what a humble guy
it's actually an old mascot from a german kids channel who appeared as the "black out screen" when they were supposed to go sleeping, so they only broadcasted this character talking to you that you should turn off the TV and go to bed..
Dude he's my uni principal. Had no idea he was famous until a few months after starting uni since I'm not german and it's so weird to find out that his character is so well known in germany
Joey was so high in Amsterdam he couldn't even remember the food he ate 💀
I was looking for this comment
Man can’t remember anything except eating some maccas.😂
haha true, have a picture to prove it :p. What would Joey rate it if he did include the smoke he had :)?
wtf? what happened?
21:14 As a fellow Dutch citizen I can confirm that getting a Twix or other kind of chocolate bar thrown at you by a group of teens on bikes is part of our daily routine. Hell, we even have a holiday in which kids at school get candy thrown at them by a bunch of adults while they're sitting in their classrooms and they have to scrape the candy from the ground to eat them (not even joking here).
dont forget, those adults are often wearing black face at the same time depending on where you are in the country.
I don't get the part of the raising a hand to stop though, we don't do that, maybe when you go with the whole class or something but besides that never seen it

Damn I never showed up on video release, but how fitting it opens with Garnt saying “British cuisine is better” 💀
Germany has better food than Ireland and Wales and even UK at times, you got beer, bread, meats, etc.. it should be a A tier along with other nordic countries. UK can have good food it can be C tier maybe a B tier. I love chicken tikka masala.
I think the best german food is the kind that's made by grandmas at home.
That style of dishes is hard to make in a restaurant setting and is therefore not easy to get as a traveler or really (/overly) expensive.
And southern Germany has much better "native" dishes than the North. The North has better Döner though
@@cyan_oxy6734We northerners also got the better Seafood and To-go food.
@@cyan_oxy6734 every country's best food is by the grannies
But I get what you mean, there's a lot of slower cooked stuff one way or another within the processes. So the type of food that ends up working in restaurants/takeout are pretty limited. That is still a flaw with the cuisine of the country, eating out is a pretty big deal in most places, and it feels reasonable to say somewhere around 80-90% of countries have better takeout/street/restaurant food than Germany
On the other hand I think Germany's stuff like cafes and bakeries are some of the best in the world

Not even the first time I've heard a podcaster visiting Denmark only to come back and talk about a lifechanging hotdog experience. Shoutouts to Dan Ryckert.
who is Dan Ryckert? what did this guy do?
I'm only halfway through Grant's new disastrous Germany take and I just KNOW this man didn't try Döner.
Döner is Turkish. All the Germans did was put gemüse in it and drown it in dressing.
Or ANY traditional German dish. No Haxe. No Eisbein. No Leberkäse. No Fischbrötchen. No Wruckeneintopf.

I wonder if they had Döner when they were in germany.. its a german version of turkish food. if they counted the "irish chinese food" then the german Döner should too.
PS: Döner is by far the most commonly eaten street food in germany.
Also since they compared hotdogs, they should have tried german ones. German hotdogs are super good. In every hotdog stand you can choose between 3-4 different types of sausages, thats something I haven't seen done anywhere else.
Denmark does that with hot dogs ✌️
We absolutely need to get the above comment liked so they might see this.

@@raimundasgriskaitis1140 What is a good example of british cuisine?
British food's reputation for being bad mostly comes from the limitations of rationing during and shortly after WW2. .. and and jellied eels, which by all accounts shoudl never have been a thing (there are good ways to do eel. Jellied is apparently not one of them).
Such a clown take 🤡

Stayed in Cardiff for a few days in all since I'd never visited before, really enjoyed my stay. Dropped by Cardiff Castle as I like looking into historic things (the connection between the Butes and Crichtons amused me as it links back to where I'm from). Also had a fair wander around the Bay area, there was quite a lot to look around.

It sounded like Conner was describing Lambic Ale. It uses a wild yeast during the brewing process and gives a sour flavor. It's one of my favorite types of beer.
As a German who's only a few seconds in... What. The. Fuck.
Northern Germany, in my case Hamburg, has actually a lot of decent food places that serve regional cuisine for reasonable prices. But yea, germany has a lot of hit-and-miss stuff. 😭 We have nice food in Germany... I agree on the boring cooked or steamend potatoes. I always switch them for any other potatoe based side dish like cream potatoe puree, potatoe croquettes, love fried potatoes with bacon and onions, rosemary oven potatoes and so on. Also the varity of sausages and the maybe hundrets of different versions of potatoe salads and pasta salads make our Grillparties (BBQ) one of the best parts of summer! My personal favourites: Käsespätzle (spätzle with cheese and fried onions), Semmelknödel mit Pilzrahmsauce (bread dumplings with mashroom cream sauce), Kartoffelpuffer mit Apfelmus (potato pancakes with apple puree), all the atumn/winter dishes with meat (fried goose or duck or some nice goulash with beef, venison or wild boar) with potatoe dumplings and red cabbage, just to name a few.
You know what's up. Also just all the regional dishes. From bavarian meats to northern green kale or fish.
A lot of touristy places have just melted into a mush of mid cuisine that is overprized and doesn't do our cuisine justice.
And then there is the fact that we infused italian, greek and turkish cuisine into our own.

Garnt's take on the One-Piece Live Action being better than the anime is something I never would've expected to come out of his mouth...
I think it was better than the anime until Baratie and Arlong Park, which were still fine/ 6/10.
It's definitely unfortunate that thanks to the budget and episode limit, they weren't able to add a lot of important moments and characters to the live action.
It's true tho
I wish I had a guy just googling stuff related to our convo when I'm having a chat with friends.
That's super optimized
We have Henry Hoover here in Canada too. My grandfather has one; he's had it since before I was born, and I'm 30. Still works great.
British cuisine is better?! Bruh... I haven't watched the episode yet, but Garnt better eat those words and backtrack real quick! 😂
Bad news buddy
Porkpies bussin.
@@jossecoupe446same with cottage pie
Them words would taste better than British food
I mean it’s true. Unless you’ve only heard of British cuisine from memes.
Funfact, charles actually is a deep clean hoover, the nozzle sprays some kinda soap which then gets hoovered off, it helps with stains in car seats
Man I'm listening to this before I jump thank you for keeping me company during this dark time specifically that I'm feeling very alone thank you for the past times you have kept me company you guys are great
Hey dude you okay?
dont do it
Nothing like starting the new year with the boys✨🎉
Thank you Joey for sticking up for Germany 💪
How has he done a complete 180 from Hating bread to loving it, then directly follows it up with one of the most agregious takes I've ever heard
Thank you for making my dream come true of seeing you all live. I went to watch your show from the Netherlands because you sold out there. The whole trip to London and waiting was worth it because damm you guys were amazing. Best night of my life! If you are going to tour again in Europe I would go again without a doubt :D
hahah this is gold!!
its like a battle of 2 foodies vs Joey loool
I thought Garnt finally got some character development with the bread “Your bread actually goated” until he said “British Cuisine is better.” One of the most hottest yet wrong take ever
Noice. Such a brilliant Europe tour, Ty for finding a new venue in Wales ❤❤
For those who are interested in Connor his "wild beer story":
Wild beer is a strange way to say it. It's probably a Geuze you had. You let the beer ferment in the cascet with the bacteria and wild yeasts from the air.
Geuze is something pretty local, even in Belgium. People in Pajotteland drink it the most from what I can tell.
Sincerily,
A Belgian
The fact my parents watched the live-action One Piece in full before I picked it up has to be a statement in itself for how good it is. Glad fans are enjoying it!
I'm not even German and I LOVED Bernt das Brot as a kid... I didn't understand back then as I didn't speak German but it was entertaining as hell... I did learn German later in school but yeah
As a Norwegian, being ranked below my Scandinavian brothers makes me sad
Same 🥲 Did they not learn at the shows about how competitive we are 😂
it's official. Denmark is better than Norway. now we just need to conquer Sweden
As a Swede, being on top feels nice for a change.
Norway has the worst food though, it's literally only varieties of fish
Same man
Love how Joey owns a fashion company and wears a 7/11 add 😂
You guys should do a tier list about the best dub on old anime openings in Europe
Like Lupin, DB etc etc
would be neat
Trash Taste x Sidemen podcast coming for sure!!!! Can’t wait
I kept going to this Thai place so much that I got pretty close to one of the ladies and she ended up showing me the “secret menu.” It was the BEST.
