Ahh, Lazarbeam, I started watching his stuff when he was still making variety game videos (so 2016-2017), that gaming-youtuber-style sadly died and Fortnite exploded both his sub and view counts, he understandably turned into a Fortnite channel, and that has been doing amazingly for him since. I think I stuck around for less than a year more after the transition, the last time I watched a video of his must've been the first collab Fortnite ever did, but I don't even remember what the collab even was, was never interested in the game.
I personally think the conversation at 1:13:00 is one of the selling points of Connor and Trash Taste as a whole. They have such an earnest commitment to talking about their outlook on their jobs that I personally don’t feel in other podcast channels. Maybe that rlly has to do with where each conversation flows and how it ends but with trash taste, I get a bit of everything.

AoT is not more an starter anime than other seasonal shows, a lot of it is off putting even for newcomers. Its sad long running animes can't be recommended due to people nowadays needs to have instant ADHD scenes without proper build up or investment in the worldbuilding, characters or story.

I always wonder why people never recommend Samurai Champloo to new anime fans. I feel like it has some natural similarities to American TV shows in terms of story structure, the dub is decent, it's short and complete, and, most importantly, it has a crazy good hook of "break dancing samurai fights over lofi hip hop beats (which were made basically by the progenitor of lofi)"
Newcomers today want that new ADHD anime, which is sad because slower and longer shows don't get a chances because it requires time and investment to get in to.

The card printing thing reminds me of a story from back when I was little. I was in a pokemon tcg league and was one of the better players in my age group. This older kid decided he wanted to take me down a peg (to bully, I just liked playing and didn't ever brag about it, except to my uncle of course) and he brought these cards that had printed over faces of other cards. I complained there's no way that's legal. The person running the league let it slide. This kid started throwing down more and more, and all the cards seemed a little fishy , so I got an idea. I told the league runner the other kid needed to show the real cards or else he shouldn't be able to use it. How do we know these cards are real, and if we can just bring in anything, then I couldn't wait for next week. A couple other kids also caught on and shared their displeasure with the idea as well. Just as much as we all couldn't collect every card to form every strategy, we all didn't have printers and internet at home either (this was early 2000s). Later I found out that kid was friends with the league runner's kid and I learned an important lesson about the world.

Of course it's only anecdotal evidence but from my experience it gets people hooked on their stories to have a high intense mental battle and then ease into the action packed series.
