If you listen carefully to this bass line in the verse, the first part is very similar to the bass pattern in the King of Pain verse. Then the next bass part is the same as the chorus in Invisible Sun.
That was on his birthday. He could have taken the day off and just celebrated or went somewhere else to indulge in xyz if he wanted to. But instead he did a concert in Concord Ca. Either he needs the money, it’s an excuse to get away from Trudie, or something or someone lives in this vicinity that he has something unresolved with so it’s a way to revisit &/or get some kind of resolution.
Or perhaps he is of an age where birthdays don't really matter? Or maybe the best birthday is to be a rock star with 12,000 people cheering for you? He did not have to do a private sound check for his fan club members, but he did. I think that was awesome!
Imagine going to see the pop star you've loved for decades expecting him to sound as good as he did back in his prime and this is what you get. #GiveItUp
This is why it’s always tenuous when people film sound checks. Clueless idiots think it’s a real performance, not realising that artists commonly hold back on their vocals to save their voice for tonight’s gig🙄
imagine turning up to a soundcheck and thinking it was the gig.....(sheesh). 'Yeah and the light show was terrible, and there was no vibe, and the concession stands weren't open...'
His arrogance is extremely off putting. People try to say he’s just shy yada yada yada but that’s BS. He is a musical genius though so he gets away with it to an extent but he’d have been even bigger than he was if he wasn’t such an *ss.
Clearly saving his voice and his energy for the actual show later that day.
These soundcheck songs are really gems. It'd be awesome if they are inserted in setlist in rotation.
he was fantastic in concert that night. i was there
Agreed!
Yes check your hearing
His right hand work is fascinating and when he messes around and heads into McCartney territory, it's great as well.

“His clothes suck!” IT’S A SOUNDCHECK!

A brilliant song absolutely ruined. Stings worst band EVER !!!
Certainly the worst drummer he's ever used. Such a pity Ronnie Pearson is no longer with us.
He'd of done better if he didn't call himself Stink. Nobody wants to get to close to him, how sad.
