Dr Higa - what a beautiful man. Over 99% of the population would have tried to patent it rather than setting up a NFP and telling the world... Well done.
@@johac7637 I use it everywhere. I pour it down drains to keep them clear, spray onto my plants like a natural fertiliser, and also to inoculate my bokashi compost bran. You can use the drained liquid from the bokashi compost bin and pour it over your outdoor compost as it not only has the lactobacillus in the liquid but it has many other nutrients from the food, helps break down the outdoor compost faster. Bokashi simply works by breaking the organic matter.Making it a ready for worms and soil organism to cast in just 2 weeks!. Composting the most effective known today will take 2-6months with daily tumbling or weekly turning. By feeding worm bins compost or bokashi, you feed the worms directly and take the work of there backs breaking the matter down, meaning faster more nutritional worm castings(more diverse matter can be used). No special compost moisture and brown to green matter scheule, saving water by no need to water the pile, and all organic matters can be used!.And worms love this stuff crazy just check the soil where you dig the bokashi down!!! its alive
EM-1 is the consistency of water. You dilute with water when using. In the case of making the bokashi bran, you use EM-1, water and molasses then ferment it for about 2 weeks.
I have Bokashi Organico and I put in there EM. Can I drink the liquid (diluted or not with water)? What is the effect to the human/animals' organism - good, bad or neutral? Thanks in advance.
I believe that if EM1 can be made available and the research showing that it can make the difference in organic crop production and in cleansing the environment (polluted waterway, polluted channel...), then let us promote it to third world countries further. I wonder why EM has been studied and its effectiveness has been proved more than 30 years and yet its impact is so limited?
I wonder this all the time. The largest users of EM are in developing countries. As for research there are over 600 research papers on EM, over 100 of them are peer reviewed.
Stop wondering, get started and enjoy. It's fun! The answer is simple: The industry lobby for agriculture products have more money and influence to make bigger PR campaigns for their poisenous products, while the organisations spreading information for natural farming have very little money and influence compared to the big producers. The big guys also can also afford the better lawyers in order to wiggle out of their nasty affairs becoming public once in a while. Or the penalty fee, they get charged with, seem very high to us ordinary folks-but compared to the money they own it's a sad joke. They seem to get away with their crimes most of the times..in the best case with only two black eyes. If my comments would reach as many vievers as the PR of the big guys they wouldn't hesitate to get me silenced for my harsh comments. In the name of big money. Practise, what this fine organisation teaches and spread it like a virus. It's fun, but it's just a droplet on a hot stone. We just got to get more!! A world without idealism is a sick world-and if this goes on, it someday will no longer be a place worth living or reproducing yourself in. In a nutshell: GET UP AND DO SOMETING- EVEN IF IT'S JUST IN A SMALL SCALE. IT'S A START! It's said that Dr. Higa made it as non profit firm but EM is charged heavily and the preparation of orginal recipe of Dr.Higa EM is not found any were.
Use what? EM-1? check the pH and the smell. It depends on how it was stored too: never frozen and out of direct sunlight with the lid screwed on. It should be good for a year past the expiration date.
Bokashi (the fermented bran) can be applied as a top dress every other week. When burying the fermented food wastes and covering with 12" of soil, you can plant immediately.
I would not add manure into a bokashi bucket. In a bin or compost pile, yes. If there is a lot of rain where you live, cover with a large tarp to keep the pile from getting too wet.

how much is bokashi mix , if this is so great why dont the local gov give this bokashi mix free to homeowners ? $30 for a plastic bottle of brown liquid ?
Never heard of ultrasound for getting rid of ants. I usually pour a bunch of activated EM-1 on an ant mound and they are gone...moving on to somewhere else because the EM-1 contaminates their food.

Maybe I can help you out. My way works fine with bokashy instead of pure expensive EM. I just started a batch of bokashi compost and it looks and smells fine so far...my bucket is already half full-no nasty odors so far. Check lacto-life.com. Print out or store their free recipe on pdf. I use the cheaply produced lactobacyllus and add just two tablespoons of prefabricated EM in order to both boost the growing of lacto and multiplying what else includes EM( mycorryzal fungy and photosythesis bacteria). The main ingredients of the lacto is just (not clorinated) water, brown sugar, himmalayan salt (free from flouride and iodine). The ingrediants cost about 15 €, but will last for far more then batches of lacto. Ill keep experimenting in order to cut down the costs even further! This is just one advice for making lacto, but their are more ways shown on YT. One of is with ricewash, milk and molasses. Just add a tiny amount of EM when it's done. Their are also shown tutorials how to produce mycorryza fungy-but I haven't tried these yet. If you like, I can keep you informed about what I'll keep learning-I won't make a big secret out of it. Why not? It's far too important for all of us too lock it away. Good luck!
Sure the 1 gallon of “mother” EM1 is a bit expensive, but when you figure you can take that and make 80 gallons of it yourself from that 1 gallon of “mother”, it’s actually quite cheap

If it is fully fermented and incorporated into the soil a few weeks before planting or far enough away from the roots, there will be no problems. If the food waste smells bad, do not put it near plants. It has putrefied and can kill plants.
You ferment it. And then you must compost it... How is that better than just a compost pile, or worm bin... 2 weeks to ferment, all the while worrying about doing something wrong, and then one month in the soil, digging foot deep holes all over, and hoping your plants roots DON'T touch it... This is slower than a worm bin, more work, and more worry. I thought it was the next big thing... I'm going back to studying worm bin design now...
The nutrients are broken down faster and into more basic compounds. More food is provided to soil fungus rather than creating a bacterial bloom. The fermentation alters the PH slightly in your favor. This is honestly a very basic introduction into ancient farming practices such as Korean Natural Farming. Microorganisms are the key.
