  • John from www.growingyourgreens.com/ goes on a field trip to EM Hawaii in Honolulu, Hawaii to learn more about EM1 aka Effective Microorganisms. In this episode, you will learn what is Effective Microorganisms and why you may want to use them in your garden. You will discover this OMRI (organic) listed product that has a wide variety of applications from gardening, farming, composting, smell control, insect control, disease control and more. You will SEE John drink this natural and organic gardening product.
    John will also share with you what makes EM1 unique over other microorganism or biologic products out there and why it is different than making your own compost tea or using IMO's. You will also discover other uses of EM1 around your home, in your garden or at your farm.
    You will discover how EM1 can help speed up the breakdown of food waste into nutrients for your garden and even help to clean up rivers, lakes, and ponds that have sludge and slime build up.
    After watching this episode, you will have a better understanding of the EM1 product, and if it is something that you might want to use in your garden to be more effective.

    Another good and interesting video and you're spot on to focus on the importance of microbes in growing produce and for a healthy environment. I'd like to also highlight how you can create all the microbes you need from your own kitchen, garden and animal waste. A few chickens and/or a good compost system, and encouraging worms in the garden is all we need to encourage a thriving environment for good microbes to live and in turn the garden to flourish - all for free! Cheers :)

      +Christine Beauchamp EXACTLY, its just an additional smaller organism breaking down those worm castings even further. This is literally getting to the point where plants can start direct feeding from this zoo of life.

    I make mine by buying one bottle of em1 then I use my rice wash water and bottle it, I add one ounce of molasses and shake it up, then I add an ounce of em1 from the store, and just let it sit for a week or two burping it every day. Easy way to turn one bottle into many bottles..it will bubble up and have a snap to it when you open the bottles everyday, it’s important to open them and let the gas out, or it will explode haha, did this by accident.

    Spot on John!!! Excellent video ~ such an inspiration. We've been using EM in our orchard as part of our holistic spray for a couple of years now and we're super happy with the results. It just keeps getting better and better. It's been a year since we started applying it to our veggie garden and have seen great results, too. We just started incorporating it into our composting process as well. Super stuff!
    Interesting about the probiotic soap. Thank you for mentioning that. We just ordered more EM from Terraganix, so we'll have to include the soap with our next order. Shipping is a tad bit high.
    A garden/soil geek we know in Canada used EM to help resolve a debilitating IBS issue. His health has greatly improved as a result. Certainly, this is not the "miracle cure", but it sure is great stuff and helps to take garden soil health and personal health to the next level :)
    Thanks again John for being such a great soil health advocate.

    Out of all the salesmanship, when John mentioned "genetic potential" he got my attention. It's something I've been experimenting with in my garden and finding what my plants genetic potential might be. If they don't have the right environment that won't reach that potential, but with the perfect soil and nutrients (like the double banana) the plant will reach that genetic potential and we don't know what that is unless we get the DNA of our plant. I like it when John is on the cutting edge of human and plants needs. Kim

Also will I need to add mycoryzae product on top of the bacterial root inoculate and organic compost tea fertilizer? any advice would be helpful . Thanks!

    • @johnlord8337

      Easy. Get chickens, ducks, geese, ... and away they go ... and they turn into poop fertilizer!

    • @maximilian333
      @maximilian333 9 років тому

      ***** It could mean you have thrips gnats or potato bugs. I would leave them alone, as nature will run its course and if there aren't enough pests, the centipede population will dwindle. They may have hatched recently and will die off once they don't have prey. Compost tea can balance out the number of pests and bugs especially if you are putting shrimp or crab shells into your compost tea to create chitinase.

      ***** some people find areas where wind has blown dust off rocky areas by wind erosion, sweep or scoop some up, and compost it in a hot pile. Good way to get minerals. Also if you have access to piles of dead seaweed, compost in a few garbage bags of that. Make sure it's legal to do that, or fines can be huge.

    • @artsychic2000

      well, we have ferocious winds where I live. Mostly sand. Ash is another good way to get minerals. Fines for composting dead seaweed? Lol. I know what that's about. I ignore policy enforcers and code enforcers. You just have to know how to deal with them. They are after the "legal entity" not the human being.

    How is EM-1 different from bokashi tea that you can make yourself?

    • @maximilian333
      @maximilian333 9 років тому

      888zzz what it comes down to, is the % of each type of friendly bacteria (mostly lactobaccili of various types, or any one of 30 or so common friendly soil bacteria), and whether your brew contains any pathogenic/disease bacteria. Professional brews are tested for this. DIY brews are hit or miss and could be dangerous even. I make my own - rule of thumb is to go crazy with a good aeration strategy. I learned this after I nearly killed my entire garden foliar feeding it with bad compost tea... I have a good quad air pump and also a PVC pipe I used to blow into the mix daily like a didgeridoo! And I stir any muck off the bottom whenever I pass by. I try to deplete it before making more. I don't want to create the next flesh-eating bacteria by leaving my brew going for ten years unchecked.

    Oh, so you mean they shouldn't be spraying the farm fields around my house with ammonia? Idiots! They call themselves farmers. They don't feed anybody anything good. This is why people need to grow their own heirloom organic fruits and vegetables. My husband met one "farmer" that didn't know that the seed comes from the plant. This guy was 60 years old. Really pathetic. Thanks for your vid and keep up the good work sharing the truth with people.
