if u dont feel like removing everything just open your door and you can see inside the fender if you flash a light inside. If you see trash in there spray it out with water from there or from behind the wheel.
That’s a good point, you certainly can do that but then you have less of a gauge of how much rust is built up, and also anything pinched between the fender and rocker won’t be easily removed. That’s a good quick way to do it though!
One of the first things I did for my Mx5 NB2 was the Paco fender braces. Which lead me into cleaning out the fender debris. Glad I tackled it early. And now I just undo the bottom two 10mm bolts and use compressed air to just keep clear. I always spray oil and bollistol in there as well.
Thank you, Just bought my first Miata and didn't realize the rust happened from the inside out. I washed the car last night and wondered where all those leaves were going. The kick panel on both front fenders and the rocker panels are rusted through and the metal is hanging off like a clam shell. Going to Auto Zone to get fiberglass
I’m looking at a ‘94 Mazda Miata with 166k miles on it and it’s $5000 seems like on good condition besides the common seat wear and oil leaks from the diff and oil pan. There’s also coil movers and roll bar.
Alexxxmonmon Definetly too much. Try to talk it down and check ALL RUST PRONE AREAS. Take a good look under the car and the sills. Look for any rust inside the trunk and the rear arches. Also the second gear on these transmissions tends to be notchy but it should be smoother after the transmission has warmed up.
unbelievableflyingdrunkenpotatowithnolife I wish I can remove the fenders before I buy it but it’s a risk I might have to take. I’ve seen under the car, no rust. Love the name btw
Don’t buy that bro. I got a 95 with 130k on it, COMPLETE rust free, and a new clutch / timing belt / water pump for 3800. I promise if you keep looking the good deals will be there, for the time being
I got a 2000 MX5 NB with 38k miles with no rust due to being garage kept most of its life with routine maintenance. But, I want to take it a step further and check then coat my panels. Problem being it’s near brand new - It has all of its factory rivets still installed as new
Hello to you. Looking at your informative videos. Can you look into the A-pillar rust and the rust that forms below the A-Pillar and along the seal down to the drain hole you talk about in your fender rust video. I am in the UK & my MX5 is suffering from this. Thanks
Thanks for this. I'm noticing some corrosion happening around the pop-rivets of the lining. Any recommendations here? I really want to stop/mitigate this asap. Thanks in advance!
The best way is to use a strong paint / rust preventative! Lots of people us POR 15 rust preventative and I've heard good things but haven't tried it myself. It's also a good idea to was your drains with water once in a while and pull the bottom of the fender once in a while to really clear it out, but with a proper coating that would become unnecessary. Good luck!
@@CashedOutCars Would it be worth drilling out and enlarging the existing drain holes and maybe drilling some extra drain holes in the fender? Especially as I live in a very moist country?
I actually ended up leaving the broken part of the bolt in since it broke off flush and there were others to hold the fender in place. You could drill it out and tap it a size larger, and they do make extraction tools to help remove them. Best of luck!
i do support what you do man but you are not going to save it like that you just slow it down thats all :/ in order to prevent rust you must truly grind it down to the bare metal then spray primer then paint then something more buff to protect the paint itself because what makes these cars rust is just crappy paint paint will protect the metal not some coating it does not have anything to stick on so it will just degrade anyway but idk i hope it does work for ya I live in a climate where there is snow and road salt and what you did will pretty much do nothing here ;D
Whats the point of taking your fender off going threw all the hassle just to do a half assed job at the end in cleaning and preventing the rust from spreading more. Smh pointlessssss
@@CashedOutCars hate to revive 2 year old thread but the answer is you sand it down to bare metal bruh, then you dont even have to spray anything, all you did was put a sticky substance thats gonna get in the way of repairing the rust the right way
Who’s got, or has had, fender rust?!
West coast gang, my miata has set rust!
I stood next to mine and a 1.5" x 3" piece of sill just fell on my foot. Fenders are fine though.
I guess i will have
i know it's kind of randomly asking but do anyone know a good website to stream newly released movies online?
@Hank Omar lately I have been using FlixZone. You can find it on google :)
In case someone didn't realize, it's important to wear eye protection while using the wire wheel attachment!
Once I had a piece of the wire wheel stuck in my shoe. They fly with enough force to penetrate leather. Please wear eye protection
Nice little project. I appreciate your basics approach, making the project straightforward and achievable.
This is very underrated video. Thank you!
You're welcome, I'm happy this helped!

It’s probably priced a bit high, so definitely try to talk him down a bit. Good luck, and enjoy it if you get it!

Is there a more permanent way to prevent?:) I would love a set-and-forget solution. Great vid Btw!!

Has any rust came back as of now ?
Has the rust come back
You mention a video to completely remove fender. Can’t find it. Can you post a link?

amazing
Is a fender a front wing and a rocker a sill?
What size are the screws that snap off on the bottom? Just snapped both and need to replace them to stop the rattles!
I don't even have a miata. Why am I watching this? Super informative though.
Hey how did you manage to get out the snapped bolt for the fender??
I actually ended up leaving the broken part of the bolt in since it broke off flush and there were others to hold the fender in place. You could drill it out and tap it a size larger, and they do make extraction tools to help remove them. Best of luck!
@@CashedOutCars awesome thanks same happened to me!
@@rauldeu56 best to do to prevent this is hammer the bolt just so it breaks some rust that's locking the bolt
So can you tell us the difference between super in-depth, and just the in-depth like the video.
Any guide for rockers and wheel wells?
I have a video on cutting out rust on the channel, it’s harder since it’s a very visible area. If I have to do it again on another car I’ll film it!
You sir, need to invest in a cup brush for an angle grinder. It will laugh at your drill brush and go straight to metal almost instantly.
I just picked up a 03 miata for 5000 checked for rust only had surface rust on the back inside yell think I got a deal
Is this just for the Mk1 or Mk2 as well?
MK2 as well!
Little over 1 year later, how's it holding up?
Pretty decent! Still no new visible signs of rust. For the relatively quick job I did I'm still quite happy with it!
