I've just done something I'd never done before and something I never thought I would do.
Paused your video about a third of the way through and bought a Govee TV Backlight 3 Lite. Enjoyed the rest of the video.
Thank you for the way you present and for your honesty and truthfulness
❤️ thanks mate, you’ll love it!
So how was it! Curious to hear the results

Hello, do you know if Govee still do this matter enabled? I can't find it on their web any more.
Well done! You just scared the shit out of the cat with that Axl Rose /Family Guy sketch, I laughed so hard! 😂
Watched the video yesterday, bought it and installed it today. Works great. Be sure to pick the "Part" option to get the colors to match the action on the screen. This is a great option for us as we feed our TV with an ethernet cable. The camera sits at a 90 degree angle to the screen and I thought it a bit too obvious, but you quickly don't notice it when you're involved with a show. (I'll add that my wife chuckled at the cockroach/3M joke).
What is "part" option?
Also you can put the camera at the bottom of the tv if you're using the old generation (if it's not wall mounted that is).
And the lights are so good with animation movies!
I love my T1 and will be sticking with it as the T2/T3 can’t be used with mounting beneath the TV (at least not as easily). It’s all linked to my Home Assistant/Hubitat/Homekit environment and the colour accuracy is plenty good enough for me. Plus the T3 doesn’t seem to have 75 inch support yet.
Tip: Use the UA-cam calibration video which has the 4 orange squares in the corner to save sticking the physical ones on your screen during setup.
looking at buying a T1, but the ugliness on the top of the tv does my head in, can you actually just put the t1 on the bottom insteaD?
@@flink6150 yep. The software fully supports it, part of the setup asks you for the orientation. There are a number of UA-cam channels showing some nice ways to totally hide it on your TV stand as well (personally I’ve just stuck it to the bottom of the TV as it is floating on an arm off the wall so no other option).
@@flink6150 look for MrTek Suggest ditch your T1 camera video.
You can put the t2 camera on the bottom. DIY and reverse the calibration.
They make it in a 75” and up now
How does it compare to the v1 in dealing with the ambient light in the room?
Thanks for the great video Paul! Do these kind of things also work for a coloured wall? I have a green wall behind ny tv
Thanks Paul, hope you've had a great Christmas. I got this as a present and came to install it but didn't have enough clearance between the front of the TV (I have a Samsung QLED from 2017 with the slim Samsung wall mount) and the wall to fit the camera. I will try to buy a right angled USB-C adapter to see if this will allow it to fit and post the result here in a couple of days. For reference you need 75mm from the front of your screen to the wall to fit the camera in.
Look for Nano tape instead of cellotape and Blue-tac. Its a non permanent tape. Also great for sensors when you are testing for optimum location.
Paul, what settings (brightness saturation etc). did you use please? I have upgraded from the T1 and I can't seem to get the black scenes to not show red. :-(
How does this compare to the T1? I have it and been struggling to get it to accurately show the colours on every area of the bottom corners. I've also messed around with the colour balance and saturation settings a lot but constantly feel it's not quite right
I have a similar backlight and I recommend adding an additional cheap white backlight strip to the tv. I find that when the backlight turns off during a dark scene it is distracting. The effects are certainly more subtle with the extra light but it makes everyday usage so much better and you can always turn off the extra light strip when you want the full immersion.
thank you, thank you, thank you for always telling me it as it is with any product you review. I will definitely be picking up one of these new govee dreamview backlight 3 tv lighting systems!
Hi Paul, Great video. As well as providing great straight forward information it was funny. I purchased the Govee 3 Lite after seeing it.. I just want to ask you one quick question . I'm just about to fit the Light strip to my 55 inch Lg Oled and my question is how far in from the edge of the TV should I fit the Light Strip ? Thanks
Excellent video as always clicked on link to buy but its for 55 inch up tv am i being stupid as cant find any for smaller tv do you just cut them down or is there different kit that i need to buy tried looking on there shop but cant seem to find one
The color accuracy thing, it seems blue sky is an issue and always displays as purple. Have you found this to be the case?
I understand this is the TV 3 lite and you compaired this to the T1 BUT I have the T2 Install .... so Should i Upgrade to this one insteed ?
Would it be possible to mount the camera from the bottom of a TV?
Hello, would this work on a pull out tv? One that is on a stand and comes away from the wall? Im worried that the colours wont look as great if the tv is away from the wall
Can you sync any lights to the Govee Lite 3 in dream view. I currently have the T2 camera with lights that sync to T2. Will those same lights link to the new Govee Lite 3 in dream view or do I have to buy all new lights
Great Video as always, love your reviews, I have a question can the camera be put at the bottom? why does it have to be the top? it would be more out of sight at the bottom
Is it possible to put on the bottom?
Am I correct in thinking this camera can't be mounted under the TV? I'm looking at this product or the T2 and leaning more for the T2 as the camera can be located at the bottom of the TV
He'll wondering where do you get the demo videos you have at the start of your video I've searched on you tube but can't find much thanks in advance
Am I missing something?
I can’t see this model available for 75” TV. But was installed on one in the video? Does the 55-65” still work?
If you could hint strongly to Govee that there are customers with smaller TVs would love this too, that would be great.
And LARGER as well, mine is 75"
the top camera does it give any trouble - in terms of feels distracted OR keeps bothering in day or night view?
Hi Paul getting a 65” TV soon would I get the 3m or 5m version for it this?
I’m assuming the 5m version.
Cheers
After watching loads (and I mean loads) of your videos over the past few months I finally bit the bullet and bought the govee T1 this last weekend so I could dip my toe in the immersive light ocean - plus it was only £41 on Amazon so....bargain! So after only 2 days I only have 1 thing to say - OH MY GOD, Im never going back to the boring way of watching TV ever again. In fact we love it so much in our house we are looking at "upgrading" all the TV's in the house - might need to look at the T2/T3 options after watching this video though. Thanks for making these videos - fun, entertaining and informative - perfection really 🙂
I love everything about this comment ❤️ thanks for telling me man
When do think tele manufactures will start building ambient lighting in?
Thanks for the honest review Mr. Johnny Sins! I subbed now!
I have my sound bar on the top of my tv.
Will I still be able to install the camera ?
Can you make snapshots with the app like you with other govee light products?
Do you prefer this over the Govee hdmi sync box? I would be using with Nividia shield . Also can you mix hue and Govee lights together with Alexa? Any help would be much appreciated
End of the video he talks about it
When it was said it is better than the last one, which one is that? The T1 or T2?
What's it like compared to the Envisual T2?
What I learned is my HTPC needs a sync box. I would go crazy seeing that camera stick on top of the TV.
This does look great... Except the goofy camera mounted on the TV. I kid... I obviously appreciate the reasons you listed for camera over HDMI.
But, ever since you reviewed the Lytmi system I've been a big fan of that device. They just released their v3 that featured multiple HDMI 2.1 inputs. Would love to see you give it another look.
I work in a callcenter. - It cracks me up every time you say that 🙂
I don't miss it
I recommend keeping the orange foam pieces for when you have to recalibrate. 😁
Can you put the camera upside down at the bottom (i.e. hidden behind a sound bar)?
I have the T1 and am quite happy with it. Does anyone know if we can use the control box from the 3 lite with the already installed light strip of the T1 to avoid removing and refitting?
It'd be nice if TV OSes would build in this functionality, and just output a tiny image (like 16 × 16) of their display contents, over USB or the network.
Philips have had built in ambient lighting for years!
@ Yeah, but I want the raw data!
@@andybrice2711 the answer is for TVs to start adding an HDMI “monitor out”. Then any existing HDMI sync box can make use of the standardised signal.
@ Yes. That could work. Like a "Video Return Channel". Except you'd still need an additional sync-box. And studios would inevitably insist it's heavily DRMed.
Happy Saturday Paul. These lights look great. Thanks.
Just bought this on the back of this review. It better be good Paul!
You won’t be disappointed! 😁👍🏻
I had the previous edition of the govee ambilights but i ended my adventure by selling the tv with the govee camera and ledstrips still on it and buying a philips tv with ambilights built in from the factory. No more dissapointments, better then an hdmi box and the tv itself also has ambilight when watching.
Maybe this new version 3 of govee could have made me happy for a cheaper price lol
If you don’t have the control box… does it still function?
Does the new version still show blue instead of black or is that sorted now? Its the only thing that upsets me about the T1
I mostly use my tv for gaming, should i get a sync box?
can we test the camera from the bottom position of the tv
Can the camera be mounted or positioned at the bottom of the TV? If there was several inches of clearance between the TV and the cabinet it's sitting on?
Sadly not 😔
They really should do this. It must be fairly easy just to rotate the image in software. And many people's TVs are on a table.
Hi. I have 32in TV, how many meters do I need to buy for that size?
Can the camera be mounted under the tv ?
Can I suggest you move those Atmos speakers to "front height", to the very top of the wall? The result is way better than "upfiring", if the ceiling placent is not an option.
Im curious how the Nanoleaf 4D immersion strip compares
Is the t2 better though?
How does it work when your TV i.e mine is mounted on a painted wall, dark blue?
Could this also work with a UST Beamer and a UST screen?
Is a wifi connection mandatory tobuse the sync to tv mode?
how about the camera under the telly?
The T1 supports blank screen detection now too - it’s just a software/firmware update
Is the T3 an upgrade on the T2?
So if I buy a govee backlight, I can put it around things and will make things look bigger?
Is there a risk of electric shock?
Great video - good to know the good and the bad!
So where does the T2 fit in?
What liquid video did you use to test this?
What if my tv is inside a built in entertainment wall with an inch of clearance on all sides would this be worth it ?
Hello! I bought T1 year ago. I didn't realise that camera doesn't match OLED TV... Now I'm thinking about buying T3. Is it worth to change T1?
Great Video as usual...
Just a quick question...is this the "Govee TV 3 Lite"? That appears to be the only thing that pops up if I search on Amazon in Germany for a 3rd Generation and it confused me a bit since "Lite" seems to indicate some kind of entry level budget thingy...
It is indeed the 3 Lite. I’m assuming there will soon be a 3 “full fat” bringing the 3rd gen features of the lite and the extras the T2 has (dual lens, double the LED density etc).
@ Thanks.
I read up on it, and sadly it's only for TVs up to 65" so not for me unfortunately.
@@rolandrohde I think they will add a larger TV version to the Lite soon. But if you wait a bit longer you will be able to get the 3 Pro or whatever they call it. They are clearly creating 2 tiers of this product line for entry level and high end users.
So, if my wife is watching UA-cam, and doesn't want the sync on but just wants a static color. Is that a possibility with this unit?
Long Time viewer from Cameroon. Delightful content, as usual.
Thanks dude!! 🥰
That hoverboard from Back To The Future. Spotted that. 😎👍🏾
So my tv is a 70”. So do I get the 55-65 or 75-85? I can’t really seem to find any answers.
Edit.. watched the end -- I have a t1 is the strip the same as t1? I might just upgrade the camera / box as the t1 keeps falling off my oled as it’s too thin
I'm not sure, I think it connects the same way, but I think this strip is upgraded to include warm and cool white LED's alongside the RGB
You failed to mention whether this works with all sizes of TVs or not .. the previous ( 1st gen ) only worked with I believe 49 inch TVs or bigger and was not able to be calibrated if you tried to use it with a 43 inch as the camera was not able to see the corners of the smaller TV
I think this will be my next purchase. Still have one question left: which game where you playing? Seems a nice game and cannot find it...
Any choice for 42 inch TV?
Can I put the camera under the tv and not on the top? Would be less visible.
Hi! Can you actually put the camera at the bottom screen instead at the top so it is less noticeable? I’ve been planning to get one of those.
Yes. I did mine at the bottom. Be sure to use the setup to invert the color matching step. It’ll be opposite.
dose it work on a curved monitor though?
Question... T2 or t3 lite ?.. whats the main differences??... please 😊
I believe I can answer this. More LEDS bulbs in the T2 600 vs 200 or so I believe.
Will this work on a smaller 42" tv? the listing says 55"+
Thanks for your review, for soem movies that dont fill the screeen (top and Bottom) were you would have dark bar top and bottom, how does it cope with that, does it duplicate the dark bar assumign tjhats the colour to display or otherwise
I just installed mine last night. There’s actually a mode specifically for those black bars. It makes the back lights a bit brighter. It does not think the black bars are the screen color
Does this work if you have a dark wall behind the TV?
does it work with a 50 inch tv?
Can this be used on a 43" TV?
That Gun’s N Roses bit has got me howling 🤣🤣🤣
That was far too easy create. I put the family guy footage in and it immediately sync’s up almost every word I had it finished in about 2 minutes 🤣 xxx
@@paulhibbert Best 2mins work since I last had relations with a lady xxx
Can someone help me please. I'm looking for something like this for a 40 inc tv but i can't seem to find anything at all online 😭. I'm guessing they only make this feature for larger tv's.
Great video Shane!! Still no matter for me. We (my wife) use Alexa and Apple Home
What does the presentation look like in B/W movies such as "Schildler's List"? T2 is not able to display white light. What about T3?
Anybody know when the non-lite version of this is to be released? Having a Lite version of something would imply there is already a full-fat version somewhere, however I am not seeing one anywhere? If anybody could kindly correct/guide me here, that would be great :)
Nice. So tempted.
The camera really bugs me though.
Maybe one day there will be a software upgradable hdmi box which delays both audio and video output to the tv thus enabling a 100% exact match of signal light/colour intensity to the led as it appears on the tv. One day. Soon.
In the mean time Philips Ambilight TV's are your best option. I just bought 2 on Black Friday deals, one for the dining room and one for the living room
@@paulhibberthang on.... You bought something from "ph, ph, pH Phil, Phillips"?
The issue with your idea is that it won't work for streaming video directly in the TV, like I do for everything. I literally never use HDMI. I either stream from the net or from my NAS.
@@paulhibbert
Fifty and more years ago, when I was growing up, my mother did not allow television viewing during meals. Now, the misses and I plop ourselves on the couch, dinner plates in hand almost every night.
A part of me wants to invoke my mother's rules and go back to eating at the table with no television allowed. Just appropriate background music. 🙂
I thought the camera would really annoy me (I have the T1 version, but I stuck it at the bottom instead of the top and I barely notice it now (the soundbar hides it anyway) The trouble with V1 is that when there is a dark image on screen it decided I want bright blue around the edges. which is annoying.
Does it work for gaming or not ?
I bought one using your link but i cant connect it to homekit….is this only possible when its updated to matter 😳
I made my own about a year ago. It was a nightmare getting hold of a Raspberry Pi 4 at the time, but I genuinely wouldn't live without it now.
I have more LEDs per meter. Them ones look like 30ppm, I went for 60ppm myself.
I use an esp32 connected to the strip with WLED installed, and that interfaces with the Raspberry Pi with HyperHDR installed on it.
I then use an HDMI capture box and a spitter to take the signal going into the TV.
Yes, I know it's rather technical compared to the Govee solution, and I understand some people just wouldn't be arsed with it. For me, I just love the rewarding feeling I get from knowing I did it myself.
Like a really good hand shandy
Nice! I had a Lytmi sync box which was kind of an off the shelf equivalent. It was ace!
Do you have plans or could you point me to to a self build link please? It's going to be a long winter and I need a project! 🫤
@@paulhibbert I’m tempted by the lytmi fantasy 3. It looks amazing and has ai to work out scenes from audio without hdmi for built in tv apps etc. hdmi 2.1 4k120hz looks great although quite expensive. I do like the Govee but don’t like a camera stuck to the top of the tv lol
Dude!
If you could create a video, detailing your setup (kind of idiot proof), and how to get it running, I'd be ready to pay some amount of money.
That's the kind of setup I'm looking for.
I'm not joking btw!
I'm just not smart enough to figure this out on my own from scratch.
Another pretty big CON of the Camera vs HDMI sync is aspect ratio. If you watch nothing but 16:9 on your 16:9 screen it's all good. But if you watch some movies that have a much wider aspect ratio, you end up with black bars on your screen and the camera doesn't know how to handle that because it sees black on the top and bottom. HDMI sync analyzes the video signal before it's ever output to a screen so you won't have that issue.
So the justice league Snyder cut is out of the question 🤣
@@stwlaidler correct
The Govee 3 covered in this video has “black bar elimination for precise color extraction from screen edges” according to the press release - most of the reviews coming out mention it. Although it’s not mentioned on the Govee product pages.
@ Oh wow that's great! Solves 1 of my biggest restraints from trying it.
I bought the govee T1 backlight. And it's ok. I might get the t3 next
It's not 'Step Toe', it's 'Steptoe'. You can't split it over two lines, that's just weird!
@5:02 Being taken thru a wizard sounds a bit messy tbh Paul
Also as a fellow midlander, @7:12 "Dunt it?" made me homesick lol
I have a DIY sync box based on hyperion, but this vid is making me seriously consider buying this!
You're really good, liked and subbed!
I've got a Philips TV in the kitchen with built in Ambilight which is fine, then I bought the Philips add-on lights with HDMI Syns Box for my main Samsung TV which works great except when using Samsungs Smart Hub to watch BBC iPlayer or other apps like Netflix or Amazon Prime, the lights still react to whatever is playing through the Sync Box.
My next tellybox is going to be the ginormous TCL 98" and I'll try the Govee solution as using camera detection will also control the lights when using the apps.
Just hope the Govee 85" kit will be enough as I can't see they make a 95" - 100" rig.
