  • Dr. Anna Lembke explains what substance use disorder (SUD) is, and how to help someone with addiction. She discusses how substance use disorder is defined, reasons people start using, signs of addiction, and treatment options, including levels of care.
    There is good treatment available, and people who get treatment often get better. In fact, response rates for addiction are on par with response rates for other chronic illnesses like depression, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of heart disease.
