  • It’s officially been one year since Dawn and Joe took their fateful trip to Pender Island to look for a new property. And in this 16th episode, we see just how far they’ve come with renovations to their rustic cabin since they moved to the property in May 2021.
The episode opens with Joe unveiling the new woodmill, and cutting the first two Douglas Fir logs-destined to become the floor for the renovated outdoor kitchen. Watch as the kitchen comes together, complete with whimsical lighting, propane stove, two-burner, and plenty of workspace. Dawn quickly puts the new space to work, whipping up batches of Swich Mushroom Stock, Masal Chai, and a stir-fry!
We’re also treated to a peek at the rest of the cabin, which is transformed into a comfy living space by a fresh coat of white paint (don’t miss Dawn’s favorite space: the mud room/drum room!).
And a cameo appearance by the neighbor’s runaway tenants has Dawn and Joe asking “why did the chickens cross the road?” 😉😆

Oh wow! The cabin is done! It’s so beautiful…a real sanctuary…do you sleep in there too? And that wood mill is really something! Amazing that you can create your own lumber. No waste! The outdoor kitchen…well there’s just so many great accomplishments in this video! Well done you guys! 💕💕💕

We don't actually sleep in the cabin, but use it all day. We sleep in the tent these days. Closer to nature, the sound of the rain, cooler and just more fun!

Love it 😊 If only you could see me as I'm doing the "bilge dance" hehe. I love seeing ideas brought to life. It's so easy to talk, scroll, flip, and absorb ideas, but it's the act of creation that gets us ahead. I can only imagine how great it feels every time you walk in your outdoor kitchen stepping on the wood you cut and milled yourself. Awesome job, awesome life ;-).

portulana...the old frames could have been used as forms and rubble mixed with cement and tamped into place last for 100 years to one thousand years longer if you tile it like an old roman floor...use cao2 cinder ash and sea salt water for the mix! drains and gloria pipe underneath and the floor is heated by smoke flowing through the pipes and drains never will freeze. they are still recovering floors from the old roman ruins ...Off grid is generational...your name will be long forgotten and the floors will still be used
