Ep. 9 - Pender Moments: Cool Finds on Pender Island

- First, Dawn Thomas and Joe Girard, two professional chefs, founded Swich and Rouxbe Cooking School. Then, they gave up city life for their Pender Island farm. And now, they’re settling into their new home and exploring the best parts of island living.
In this episode, we follow Joe and Dawn as they show us some of their favorite Pender Island treasures. If you like adorable animals and fresh, mouth-watering bread (who doesn’t?!) - this episode is for you!
Among the diverse wildlife, we meet a tiny frog named Kermy (who takes a liking to Joe). Then Dawn takes us on a tour of a few of their favorite food finds across the island including: fresh bread from Happy Monk Bread, tantalizing vegan cheesecake from a roadside cheesecake fridge, vegan lunch options from Truss Farm Food truck, straight from the garden pea shoots from the roadside Pea Shoot Fridge, Amy’s Bread Shed for another round of yummy fresh bread, The Vanilla Leaf Bakery for highly addictive vegan sausage rolls and The Hub - one of Dawn and Joe’s ‘go-to’ spots for a delicious and healthy vegan meal.
We also see true small-island life as Dawn pops in at the much-loved hardware store (which is far from your average store), the Pender car stop (basically the island’s version of Uber), and the Pender Recycle Center - a fascinating look behind-the-scenes into where our disposables go.
Truthfully, everything about Pender Island is absolutely amazing - after this episode, you may just want to book a trip there! And if there’s one lesson to learn from life, it’s this: You’re the author of your own story, so make it a great one.

Me too. Unfortunately I don't think they are farm pets so we are a bit worried that we might one day not see them. For now we cherish them and look forward to next year when we can rescue pigs like this and bring them home to our farm for a life of happiness and joy.
I basically met Adam at Car Stop…and look what happened ☺️…thanks for sharing, it makes me wish we would have documented our move to Boone NC…because it reminds me of that so very much! Absolutely love this episode. It makes me feel real good knowing there are places like this speckled around the world. Joe and Dawn, you may not understand this reference, but I can't wait to show this to my daughter because you are living in a real Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing New Horizons - the younger generation will know what I'm talking about ;-).
