I forgot mention that the bolts I used for testing were the Burred Bolts and Coldbone Bolts, which have 65 status buildup each. Also, an updated Greatsword of Solitude build video is on the way! And I'm still using the Spread Crossbow for PvP and invasions, it really is that much better than the Pulley in those situations. The Repeating Crossbow, unfortunately, just ain't it for me.

Great video mate. I've also been rocking the pulley crossbow, and sometimes the Bone Bow, as secondary weapons.

Pulley is sick, but yes I've actually started incorporating the Bone Bow since it only weighs 3 and let's you make use of a different ammo type (also kinda strong in invasions tbh)
Lol this is real, and even though imo the numbers aren't great for the Spread Crossbow in PvE, it's still a lot of fun to use and it is undoubtedly stronger than the Pulley in PvP. I've bled players in two shots at midrange with the Spread, so I'm glad it can still be considered effective!
The issue you and many others are having with the repeating crossbow is that you're trying to use it as an offhand crossbow, when in fact you should be using it on your main hand so you can quickly use its skill as needed; if you need to switch to the greatsword, put it on another main hand slot so it takes less button presses to swiap between the two. Does it still have issues? Yes, definitely, but it's not nearly as clunky once you realize how awful the offhand crossbow mechanics are and know to put it in the main hand.
While true, you eliminate even THAT extra step of "weapon switching" by using the Spread or Pulley Crossbows since those CAN effectively be used in the offhand. But yeah as you touch upon, the Repeating Crossbow's bigger issues are the stamina drain, FP cost, and super long animation time lol
I'm running a dagger/ranged build for my SL150 and took a chance on Repeating Crossbow once the DLC dropped. I used the Pulley Crossbow before the DLC and honestly that served me so much better than Repeating Crossbow. Very strangely happened across this video. This is a very specific, and detailed video instance that mirrors my run. I guess I was right to stick to Pulley Crossbow.
Glad you stopped by man, yeah I am obsessed with running a crossbow offhand with my build and I just HAD TO KNOW which was best at applying status effects, and after extensive testing Pulley just performs and feels the best
I've tested both the new crossbows and i can say: - The Spread Crossbow is really just meant to be the "Bloodborne shotgun" of this game: It should be able to hit those kind of enemies that input-read your ranged attacks, especially with explosive bolt. I actually never tried it but that's his intended purpose for sure, since it's way too lame to use on bosses. - The Repeating Crossbow is somewhat of a boss killer, especially when you bring it back to the basegame. Wanna have fun? Start a NG+ and use this Crossbow with all the talismans and burred bolts, you will have a fun time
I'm glad you dig it so much man, it's definitely my most favorite build I've played in Elden Ring for sure! Seems like it can do a bit of everything, though the one thing I'd like to slot in would be a parry (wouldn't be too hard with how lightweight the Buckler is tbh)
Yeah it's unfortunate, I mean you CAN run the Repeating but it's just so much worse status-effect and resource-consumption-wise than the Pulley, you know?
The big issue with spread is that only ~5 of the bolts can hit a single target (from what I've heard you can see 5 bolts go through the target) and one shot uses 10 bolts. Also, the status build-up is barely affected by the number of bolts hit in the first place, in pvp, it does almost full build-up when 1 bolt hits, in pve, it's ruined by the bolts going through targets.
@@squidblood408 though I haven't seen any exact numbers and testing, from my personal experience what you say seems completely true. I've definitely noticed the bolt-cap when shooting point blank, and it feels very strong in PvP lol
AGREED, two changes would make me use it again: One, obviously reduce the huge stamina drain by a significant amount. And two, let me roll out of the Ash of War if it's gonna last that long lol
The spread and repeater could be more of a dps. Don’t have the repeater but with perfume, Lightning, or explosive for the damage and AOE that do upon contact with obstacles or enemies.
Yeah I think you are touching upon what I mention towards the end of the video, I think I may try a build that pumps up their physical/elemental damage rather than going for status effects
To be fair to the Repeating Crossbow, while it may not be as effective at applying status effects, sometimes there's nothing scarier or more satisfying than that extremely rapid staccato of metallic twangs.
I use the pulley crossbow pretty often especially during fights like consort radahn or Malenia between combos they walk slow sometimes & I use that opportunity to fire a few rot or bleed bolts at them to get status effect build up. I love the triple fire sound and reload click also lol.
I totally get it, you can kinda tell when bosses are just gonna walk at you for a bit and that's a good time to get some shots in. I also agree about the sounds, something extra-satisfying about em lol

Yeah tbh I think the "no scaling" makes sense since you're basically relying on the Crossbow to do all the work when firing, but yeah the two new Crossbows are a bit lacking compared to the Pulley when it comes to PvE. As somebody who got through the entire game and DLC with the Executioner Greatsword AoW, the Repeating Crossbow's long animations don't bother me personally. As for the stamina? Double Neck Turtle Talisman. High damage with a volley, On Top Of the status effect, resulting in a large amount of damage, but that Is assuming that the volley connects. I love it. Do wish you could roll out of the AoW animation however.
Tbh I think they are legit good in certain scenarios; Pulley Crossbow can Bleed many bosses in 3 shots, which is pretty quick and super easy to do if you start at a distance from em, and Spread Crossbow bleeding players in 2 shots is insane lol. The one issue is choosing whether to use your Crossbow or your weapon at certain ranges when both make sense, and it can be awkward.
3:11 Can't you work around that by equipping the crossbow in your right hand and the sword in your left? With a weapon in each hand, the weapon skill button defaults to the ash of war of the right hand, so you only need to switch from two-handing the sword to one-handing each weapon, one switch instead of two.
That is a good point, but I feel like given a moment's notice I'd rather have quicker access to the Greatsword of Solitude's Ash of War rather than the Repeating Crossbow's if I happen to be one-handing both.

Ey tbh you could just use the Pulley in your mainhand, I've legit killed bosses using the Pulley only. Since it's so bolt-efficient with the status buildup, you can bleed bosses a ton over the course of a fight!
Well the spread crossbow is instant status point blank, most bosses you'll get 3 bleed procs for free which is 40% health gone already assuming you're using all the right talismans.
@@anitaremenarova6662 not always. Like the video says it caps at like 3 or 4 bolts hit, so if theyre the least bit resistant somtimes it doesnt. Regardless, that is what I'm doing to proc bleed and frost it just EATS ammo like no other.

But the point is that you're using 20 - 30 bolts for a bleed when you could be using Pulley for MUCH more Bleed procs, using less than half the bolts and at similar status buildup frequency. Even if you are landing absolutely EVERY shot and point blank with the Spread Crossbow during a bossfight, you will run out of ammo before the boss dies (which is fine). The Pulley can kill a boss without running out of ammo.
@@lexdtv Not really, any boss will be dead from 20 shotgun blasts to the face not to mention it's way fewer shots and deals more damage outside of status. Pulley is still the best for PvP due to its consistency however for PvE I'd go spread every time.
@@anitaremenarova6662 I mean I went and tested this multiple times lol, Spread Crossbow will eventually take 3-4 shots to proc Bleed after a boss gains resistance to it after the first proc. You can make your own build video proving otherwise lol but I'm gonna go ahead and stand by the testing I did
You keep saying "two hand it" when you could just...equip it on your right hand and swap to and from your sword? I mean, is that not the obvious solution, you're not using your sword within a second of using any of these weapons unless you're going for the good-old 'three sleep arrows followed by a Giant Crusher' thing.
You will DEFINITELY run out of ammo against most bosses before they are dead, sometimes before their health is even 50%. You'll also miss more punish windows since you HAVE to be point blank for maximum effectiveness, while Pulley can hit from a range. But I mean hey, if you want to use the Spread for PvE use it I ain't telling you not to, it's just not as efficient as the Pulley
@@lexdtv Did you use both types of bleed bolts and all the appropriate talismans? Pulley takes 20 years to klII anything, ain't nobody got time for that now that we have better toys.
@@anitaremenarova6662 as I said in the video, I didn't completely cater my build around any of these Crossbows, and the Pulley performed best out of all of em for applying status effects. I've been able to kill bosses with the Pulley only using HALF of the 99 Burred Bolts you start with, and you just cannot do that with the Spread. You can make your own build video proving otherwise lol but I'm gonna go ahead and stand by the testing I did
I dont play elden ring,.. but I am sure you are right :P
Yer bettin on a winner
Berserk music playing ahhhahahahahah😂😂😂
don't you mean... FIRST? 😎
@@lexdtvlol
@@lexdtvbut also the berserk music ahhahahahahhahahah
You keep saying "two hand it" when you could just...equip it on your right hand and swap to and from your sword? I mean, is that not the obvious solution, you're not using your sword within a second of using any of these weapons unless you're going for the good-old 'three sleep arrows followed by a Giant Crusher' thing. Yes, needing to switch to a different weapon is a con but acting like you didn't realize you could just use projectile weapons with your main hand to save like a second of fiddling with the two-hand controls is High-Key Embarrassing.
