@SwanyPlaysGames I think it would be interesting to see a more detailed ranking. Something like using a point based system in four different categories: 1) damage potential which includes inflicting status effects 2) survivability which means how good is the summon in surviving in regular fights (meaning not on its own but when used in tandem with the player fighting) 3) tank potential - as in can the summon draw the aggro off of the char (like the Mimic using Shabriri's Woe or some form of aggro ability) and general tankiness 4) utility - meaning does it have buffs, heals etc. Most summons would score a solid 0 in this category of course because most don't have any such abilities Then instead of using a strict S to F tier scale I'd use a point ranking from 0 to 6 for each category and then do a fifth and final list adding the points together and rank the overall strength based on the total score (0-2 points = F-tier, 3-5 = E-Tier etc until summons with 18+ points end up in the S-Tier). This would allow people to pick summons depending on overall strength or depending on individual strengths and weaknesses if they don't want to Mimic-stomp everything all the time.
Why did you rate the Jolan and Anna summon so highly? I can't seem to get them to work well in any of my tests. They can't even kill the first Zamor Knight on the road at Zamor ruins (Mountaintop of the giants) without direct buffing or assistance from me
Apparently if you bring along the Blessing of Merika and summon the Mimic Tear, it will use it to fully heal when it gets low in health. The item is a one time use for the player, but the Mimic can use it every time it get s summoned!

I think for that reason he and some of the other slower ashes should be lower on the list.
For real. I used the 5 great soldiers against a horse based boss in the dlc to just swarm him with targets and make it hard for him to maneuver. The best summon is the one that works for your given situation.
There's something else to consider about weaker summons: there's a talisman (It looks like a Bouquet of withered flowers. It's found in Belurat) that gives you a boost to your attack power (%20 I think) everytime your summons die. If multiple summons are made: they all count individually... but the bonus won't stack.

Dung Eater debuffs the enemy to suffer more blood loss buildup, from all sources, making everything that deals blood loss more effective. Tiche, has a ranged 10% health debuff that lasts a long time and can be used back to back (which is good cause it is DoT that hits hard). She also has dodges that rivals Malenia's. All those twin knight do is their own bleed damage, which can't/won't be accentuated like you can when using Mimic, or like what Dung Eater's, Shriek of Milos, can do for you...

Summons like the Black Knight Commander Andreas work really well when you play a ranged build, a mage for example. Also Ancient Dragonknight Kristof or Lhutel the Headless from the base game work perfectly as tanky summons. Also the Greatshield Soldiers! They are insane against many bosses because often they will just pin the boss in a corner for you to deal your damage
The finger creeper is actually an excellent summon IMO for people who don’t like to use aggressive summons and instead use support summons. It’s constantly healing you and has a decent amount of health. Plus I think it’s hilarious that it is constantly giving enemies the finger 😂
In my opinion they should make that the summon power and health scale whit every ng+ bc the summon after some ng+ start getting oneshot bc theyr health is the same at the first ng and it make most of the summon useless to use when the only one that can survive more than 2 minute is mimic tear
I'm on NG+4, and I like Jolan and Anna, but god are they squishy. Even in base game content they just get bodied sometimes. Really gotta pair em with a bleed build or bring Heal from Afar to keep them going. Maybe pop on Deathmask to lower that FP cost. My boy Taylew, though? He puts in work. He may not proc bleed or pump crazy damage, or buff me, but bro can take a hit. If you make sure to stick close to him during fights and get him to grab aggro he is amazing for when you need to heal or re-buff.
I find shabriri woe is helpful if you equip it then summon mimic tear, then take yours off, and the mobs tend to chase her down more so I can dps and rebuff, I like hitting them with blessing of erdtree too, just to keep mimic alive more
I've used Mimic Tear for a long time. Tried other Summons, but they don't last long. Sometimes will use "EardTree Heal" to heal Summons if needed. I hear others say "This one is best, That one is the best," but they die quickly or can't hold aggro.
Spoilers, Bird warrior is S tier in my experience, helped me clear the basilisks in the second lion dance fight and kept up with me in applying pressure on the boss while maintaining a good chunk of health.
I would bump Jolan and Anna down to an A+ not only for their FP cost but also because to get them you have to forfeit Jolan's Sword of Night katana which is an amazing weapon to any build with a significant investment into dex
I been meaning to try more summons other than mimic tear. I tried the two female Sauron knights and they were pretty good. This list helps me with deciding on who gets the level 10 upgrade and who stays at level 9.
Get the Dung Eater. He is a tanky agro stealing beast. Unbelievably hard to kill. Can go toe to toe with Radahn for 5 minutes. I am a DPS sorc and he works so well for me.
Something you should add for or is that could put him into S tier is that due to his flight he dodged a lot of ground attacks including the starting explosion in messmer’s fight and Godfrey’s earth shatter moves
Using Heal from Afar and Taylew's Spirit Ash, he took down Messmer and Romina on his own. He is by far the most useful Spirit Ash in the game as he is very tanky and easily draws aggro from every boss.
I don't know what verson of the game you were playing but in my experience Ancient Dragon Florissax is by no means a glass canon, she tends to survive way longer than even Jolan and Anna in most boss fights, I tested three summons against same bosses to see who survives the longest and contributes the most to a fight between Teach Florissax and J&A and the verdict is Florissax is a tank but not as fast or as agressive although she makes up for it with ranged lightning attack, J&A deal best damage especially if bleed is on the table and have the numbers davantage but tend to be ablet to take around 75% of the damage that Florissax can survive and get staggered more easily and Teach gets crushed in the dlc in terms of HP not even 50% of Florissax. Maybe they threw more health and armor her way in an update or something but Florissax in an absolte tank now, and that's not counting her selfbuff and hyperarmor when casting dragon claw. Just for reference the bosses I tested them quite a lot against were Skadutree avatar, Metyr mother of fingers and Midra.
Any of the new summons better than Banished Knight Oleg or Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff? I'm running them for most of the game and haven't found anything better (though I didn't get Dung Eater to try him)
also, "better" is pretty subjective- from what you're using, it sounds like you like tankier summons who will draw aggro and wont be staggered to all hell. I personally use Tiche and Mimic for more DPS. so depending on how he likes to use summons might also affect how he views one as being better than another
@@kelakogreenaddict1888 You're right, I mainly rely on the summons to draw aggro and not die too quickly. From the new summons there are some which look decent for this purpose like: Ornis, Andreas and Taylew but I'm not sure if they will tank better than my existing ones.
I just beat Radahn by the skin of my teeth with Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff. He's not a dps machine but he'll do some drip damage and he's pretty tanky. He can pull Radahn off you long enough (and live) while you pop a few potions safely.
tbf with the fingercreeper ashes, it explicitly says "Devoted to its summoner, this young, diminutive Fingercreeper eagerly restores HP. They are ever so fond of their mothers at this tender age." that doesnt sound like a DPS monster to me, but a cute lil healing guy
This video is impressive. I give this tier list an S rank of tier lists. I'm baffled how you even did all this already, looks like a lot of work. Great job!
Florisaxx is also amazing for Lightning builds, because the Dragonbolt reduces the lightning dmg reduction by 23-30% if it hits. Andreas and Horned not in S Tier is a crime 😢
Spider Scorpion bums me out. as somebody who is VERY partial to insects I was so happy to find the spirit ash for this enemy, but I've just been disappointed by them. I found them mildly useful as a meaty tank enemy, but the mechanic of them spawning away from the summoner means that if they aren't close enough they'll just not aggro on the boss at times. I think if they buffed their attacks and their health by a bit they'd be a viable tank summon to draw aggro from enemies while dealing some decent damage but right now it's just not that good sadly.
Horned warrior is 100% S tier and the best in fact in the DLC. His damage is stupid, his agro control is top notch and his stagger procs so much. I urge everyone I know to get it because he will carry you
Sadly I only found 1 of the new spirit ashes to be worth using compared to the best from the base game 1. Mimic Tear 2. Dung Eater 3. Divine Bird Warrior Ornis 4. Omenkiller Rollo 5. Nepheli Loux
The only correction I'm gonna make is that the scorpion ashes say that they are summoned in advance of your character, it's alright at taking agro but I agree it's pretty bad
@samlansdowne630 nah you just gotta support him with some heals buffs. But I'm not using summon on my first playthrough of the dlc. So maybe your right
Tiche is bugged in the DLC though, not sure if they plan to fix, but bosses are healing back some of the damage she deals. It’s pretty frustrating. Had to stop using her.
@@MrJTStarkThat's not a bug. Destined death causes a max health debuff and reduces current health as well, when it wears off the health comes back. Usually, tiche can just keep applying it often enough for it to never run out, but if she doesn't manage to connect with DD for a while the boss gets a chunk of health back. You know it's applied when there is gray on the healthbar and a brown-red status effect on the boss.
@@Ibruk595 She is broken this patch, on certain bosses. When she hits an enemy, the max HP are reduced without actually reducing the current HP. This consequently heals the enemy when the effect ends, as the max HP that were supposed to be temporarily lost are added to the current HP of the enemy.
Except that the mimic seems to be spending way too much time txting on the phone or something... in the base game the mimic felt aggressive, now I don't use mine much because there are many better tanks that will draw aggro in a situation where my mimic will stand around, get run over, and watch while I get all the aggro and wonder why I invited him. It feels that the mimic AI was nerfed but FromSoft never bothered to document it?
@@brinker50I hope you’re being sarcastic with beating the boss alone. This is Elden Ring, not Pokemon. The ashes are there to SUPPORT you, not solo the boss.
@@Saicofaketrue but summons from base game like dung eater black knife and mimic usually do much better. If you give your mimic the right build it could probably solo a boss
@@Wowdongle That only makes the case for those summons being too overpowered, Mimic Tear is without question OP and single-handedly soured a lot of the community's on the whole mechanic. Ashes are meant to be support and being able to contribute even 1/4 of a bosses health bar is MASSIVE even if you don't take into account splitting aggro on top of that.
Sadly, none of them are as good as Dung Eater, Tiche and Mimic. Yosh is the best of the DLC summons, but still doesn't equal the previous. IIRC, he also seems to build up frostbite as well. My current build was using Ice Spear, but I am pretty sure I've seen him actually cause buildup on top of mine so that his strikes would actually proc the debuff/health loss. I kept wanting to use a new summon, but for literally every boss, Dung Eater outperformed ALL of them. Also, Mimic sucks and has always sucked on caster builds unless you intentionally weaken yourself by only having one spell slotted since the AI is so awful. For bosses Mimic might be "good" with one specific spell, but then they're garbage against trash enemies. Dung Eater is phenomenal at everything.
Situationally the wolves are S tier 😆. I sometimes break them out when none of the other summons are doing the job and they just harass the boss enough for me to take them down.
My mimic is trash. It won't attack. I used the night and shield dude. He tanked great for me and kept Mesmir agg while I was letting loose ice spear on repeat.
Cursed pot and/or Mogh’s Greatrune can fix that, makes spirit summons more aggressive + damage increase for any blood loss inflicted (including self inflicted ones like seppuku ash of war)
But for base game, did you consider Lhutel the Headless? She's fucking cracked. I-frames, ranged attack, greatshield. probably some of the best survivability among all of the spirit ashes, and although the damage isn't the absolute top, it's still decent.
I think he means that based on some of Swany's descriptions and praise, he will speak more highly of a summon then give it a middling rating compared to a summon that was just OK. That and the list should be more like a bell curve than it is. The latter is common with YTers though.
@@fiddlinman_1playsgames641I get why you’re saying it should be a bell curve but the more I think about it I’m not sure how true that is. Their strengths aren’t really random you could definitely have a set where a lot of the summons are strong relative to the average or weak relative to the average. I guess it’s kinda up to opinion how much you want to rank them with a bell curve in mind
Just asking , but has anyone noticed how ana and jolan are basically glass cannons ? can’t survive against most legacy dungeon mosses and don’t prock bleed nearly as fast as they should
@@aimanimran3010 it’s just weird considering how long her quest is and the fact that there’s additional steps you can take to make her ashes better , and they still suck. Even her katana isn’t that good unless you consider how it’s multi hit ash can work with multi hit talismans and status builds but it’s just weird considering queeligns sword and ash have more utility despite being easier to get ; just a massive disappointment
Some summons have their uses, some are fun to use, but if you need one, there are only two options: Dung Eater for casters and Mimic for everybody else. Even Tiche is relatively supportive in comparison to these two. As of the DLC, none of them is the ultimate summon; none of them is S-tier. First of all, realistically, you only need summons for hard bosses. So there’s no point in testing them on mobs. Horned is good, probably even as good as Tiche, but why use him if there’s a better summon? The Golem sucks against every boss with a fast move set, which is pretty much every boss in the game. The Twins are squishy, and the Dragon even more.
Does anyone else have glitches with Curseblade Meera? Every time I summon them, they consistently just stand there. They don't fight, they don't follow me, nothing.

My boy Taylew, though? He puts in work. He may not proc bleed or pump crazy damage, or buff me, but bro can take a hit. If you make sure to stick close to him during fights and get him to grab aggro he is amazing for when you need to heal or re-buff.
Should definitely use the talisman the keeps the Argo on you when using the glass Canon summons
Spoilers,
Bird warrior is S tier in my experience, helped me clear the basilisks in the second lion dance fight and kept up with me in applying pressure on the boss while maintaining a good chunk of health.
Fun fact, meera seems to be the only dlc summon I've got so far that seeks out enemies like bloodhound knight
As a sorc i just need a tank so maybe the golem will be nice for me
Get the Dung Eater.
Forgot to mention Taylew has pretty low hp but massive damage resist. Meaning, healing him is super efficient!
13:38 the horned warrior ashes sent that fire knight into outer space!
13:21 sounds like me in my first fight against the dlc bosses lmfao took forever to beat them, especially the final dlc boss
From the new summons there are some which look decent for this purpose like:
Ornis, Andreas and Taylew but I'm not sure if they will tank better than my existing ones.
Thanks for this, I'm a hardcore Souls fan but lately have wanted to have fun with summons and this really helped
They are ever so fond of their mothers at this tender age."
that doesnt sound like a DPS monster to me, but a cute lil healing guy
Big mouth imp is superior against humanoid enemies and bosses definitely s tier in those instances
This video is impressive. I give this tier list an S rank of tier lists. I'm baffled how you even did all this already, looks like a lot of work. Great job!
9:24 "firstly, they're bugged" 😏 nice one 😂
I think florisax also buffs your lightning attacks as well for enemies hit by there red bolt. I maybe wrong though
For your next tier list, try putting the best per tier first and the worst in the tier last. So we have the range within the tier.
Very handy! Many thanks for doing this ❤
Minic hasn't felt very good to me in the DLC. Seems like he takes a nap a lot of the times. ☠️
Taylew is goated against fire golems
Interesting! I'll have to try him out.
I urge everyone I know to get it because he will carry you
Did you also use the talisman that buffs the summons? Or just the crystal tear
Sadly I only found 1 of the new spirit ashes to be worth using compared to the best from the base game
1. Mimic Tear
2. Dung Eater
3. Divine Bird Warrior Ornis
4. Omenkiller Rollo
5. Nepheli Loux
All the new spirit ashes dont come near the mimic tear and even black knife tiche>jolan and anna
He just has a bias for dragon girls with mid lightning i see
demi-human swordsman yosh is cool
The only correction I'm gonna make is that the scorpion ashes say that they are summoned in advance of your character, it's alright at taking agro but I agree it's pretty bad
Glad my boy Taylew is an S-tier that boy smashes everything
Black knife tiche is an absolute beast, and my favorite summom. Literally can solo alot of bosses. ❤
not in the dlc sadly, mimic just survives much longer
WHY is this concept so difficult? IF your character is SQUISHY, so is the Mimic tear, if anything, its UNDERPOWERED!!
The Mimic is the only one that can get can triple buffed. Revered, scadtree and from the physick.
Mimic tear is still the best summons in the game
I dont agree with the Jolan and Anna summon unfortunately. Summon them at Ancient Zamor Ruins. They cant even kill the first ice warrior on the road.
The Messmer Soldiers surprised me most I would have put them is S tier they carried me through a good portion of the game.
Those motherfuckers are genuinely dangerous as enemies if they they tag you, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were just as capable as summons
I wanted a dragon summon like Renalla did. That would have been badass.
Black knight tiche will never be replaced.
what about omen killer rollo how does he stack up to the dlc ashes
Except that the mimic seems to be spending way too much time txting on the phone or something... in the base game the mimic felt aggressive, now I don't use mine much because there are many better tanks that will draw aggro in a situation where my mimic will stand around, get run over, and watch while I get all the aggro and wonder why I invited him. It feels that the mimic AI was nerfed but FromSoft never bothered to document it?
Anyone else notice the dlc summons don’t do any damage in the base game? Or is that a problem I’m only having?
Great video, thank you!
5:32 Yeah. You’re supposed to work in tandem with ALL your summons
Spirit Ashes need a major overhaul imo... almost all of them need massive buffs.
Agreed. This video had maxed out Revered spirit ashes with+10 and none of them could get close to beating the boss alone. They all are C tier.
Come on this is already fromsoft cheat mode - git gud
DLC last boos kills Dungeater super quick
Mimic is by far the best summon if you have melee armor and weapons.
the mimic's AI was the reason i mainly use tiche instead
Swordmaster yosh is the coolest by far, I think he needs a buff. He should be the best.
I don’t think you understand how tier lists work.
How would you rate them then
I think he means that based on some of Swany's descriptions and praise, he will speak more highly of a summon then give it a middling rating compared to a summon that was just OK.
Just asking , but has anyone noticed how ana and jolan are basically glass cannons ? can’t survive against most legacy dungeon mosses and don’t prock bleed nearly as fast as they should
true
garbage ashes
i should just take the katana in my second dlc playthrough
@@aimanimran3010 it’s just weird considering how long her quest is and the fact that there’s additional steps you can take to make her ashes better , and they still suck. Even her katana isn’t that good unless you consider how it’s multi hit ash can work with multi hit talismans and status builds but it’s just weird considering queeligns sword and ash have more utility despite being easier to get ; just a massive disappointment
ancient dragon florrisax also gives you a defense buff
Question about testing? How did you lvl these up to test without going into new game +
Prob alrdy on ng 7 or something and has a ton of + 10 upgrades anyways
The DLC gives you a lot of upgrade mats anyways if you explore.
For newer players: don’t meet the FP requirement? Cerulean hidden tear. 👊
Or... use mimic at an HP cost instead and retain the powerful buffs you'd otherwise have in your flask.
try yosh at night might get the demi human buff
I was exploring the dlc while watching this and randomly just fell through the ground. Anyone else have this happen?
Horned warrior should definitely be S tier!
Ancient dragon knight kristoff is still a S tier summon, he’s carrying me through the DLC.
Does anyone else have glitches with Curseblade Meera? Every time I summon them, they consistently just stand there. They don't fight, they don't follow me, nothing.
Anyone know if the Mausoleum Soldiers ash summons are better?
I don’t think the scorpion spider thing is a summon issue I think it’s just the enemy, I watched two of the big ones fall through the floor at Belurat
