I remember watching the Osmond Brothers Quartet as they appeared on the old Andy Williams Show just before Donny joined the group. They made numerous appearances on his show and even celebrated when their only sister, Marie, was very young. They eventually evolved into a pop group and had a number of song hits in the early 197o's. These are a few of them.
    YO-YO,
    ONE BAD APPLE,
    SWEET AND INNOCENT,
    & HOLD HER TIGHT.
They held their own by playing their own instruments and tight choreography. The young girls at the time had bit Donny and Michael Jackson in the Jackson 5ive to fawn over in magazines, television, and radio hits. They weren't really rivals, but each group had their fans.

Actually Michael and donny were close. That was one of the places Michael and kids went to when he needed to be hidden

If you have time, read up on the history of the Osmonds. Their career started in 1958 with 4 brothers and some of them are still performing today in Branson, Missouri. There are 9 siblings in all. I have heard that Jay (the drummer in this video) was their choreographer.

They started because the family needed money because the older 2 guys had hearing issues. Needed money to support them and take care of the brothers

Merrill Osmond, the lead singer on this song had the best rocker voice. Donny is more of a ballad man.

Quite simply 1 of the greatest groups and of pop/ rock music royalty ever - the Osmonds and the Jackson 5, easily pretty much the 2 groups in the 70's far as the US concerned anyhow that were a kind of dynamism to their performances easily not seen since from all the more recent ones even with their success. Nsync/ Backstreet Boys - compared to this....no competition!

They were very well rehearsed growing up. Good singing & choreography. They needed better material. This was about their best. The rest didn't stack up well against the Jacksons.

A very nice winding reaction 🏞! YT ads 🤦🏾‍♀ lol. The song was the group's attempt to move away from Bubblegum Pop music and into Rock music. I see 👁👁 you have reacted to The Osmonds before: One Bad Apple. Down By The Lazy River was released as the second single from The Osmonds' 1972 album: Phase III. It was written by Alan Osmond and Merrill Osmond. It was produced by Alan Osmond and Michael Lloyd. It peaked at #3 on the Cash Box 100 and #4 on the Hot 100. It also peaked at #1 in the Netherlands and Canada. It was ranked #36 on Billboard's top Hot 100 songs of 1972. Cash Box had it at #30 on their 1972 end of the year Pop chart list. The single sold a million copies and was certified Gold.
The song, like almost all of The Osmonds' discography, was largely left out of recurrent rotation as radio stations no longer play the record. Out of all of The Osmonds' songs: "Down By The Lazy River", has fared the worst relative to its mainstream popularity at the time.
The song has been covered by some other artists including 📻: Society Of Seven, Frank Valdor, De Strangers, The Barron Knights, Montezuma's Revenge and more.
    Lyrics 🗒:
    What are you doing tonight
You got no place to go
Gotta get out of the city
Why don't you come along with me
    Mighty fine out tonight
Get your girl and hold her tight
We can take it nice and easy
You know it won't be long
    Til we'll be, we'll be
Down by the lazy river, come as you please
Down by the lazy river, one big family
If you're all alone, you won't be long
Just bring your guitar and sing your song
Down by the lazy river, everybody follow me
    Better make up your mind
Get the show on the road
    We're gonna have a party
Come along or you'll be sorry, sorry
You know there's plenty of room
Come on, sing a boom boom boom
We can get nice and cozy
Why don't you come along and mosey
    And down, I said, down
    Come on down, I'm going
Down by the lazy river, come as you please
Down by the lazy river, one big family
If you're all alone, you won't be long
Just bring your guitar and sing your song
Down by the lazy river, everybody follow me
If you're all alone, you won't be long
Just bring your guitar and sing your song
Down by the lazy river, down
I'm going down by the lazy river, down
I'm going down by the lazy river, down
I'm going down by the lazy river, down
    The Osmonds Info 📰:
The Osmonds were a family musical act who reached the height of their fame in the early to mid-1970s. The group had its best-known configurations as a quartet billed as The Osmond Brothers and as a quintet as The Osmonds. The group has consisted of siblings who are all members of a family of musicians from Ogden, Utah, and have been in the public eye since the 1960s. The discography of The Osmond Brothers consists of twenty-eight albums and forty-three singles. The Osmonds have sold over 77 million records worldwide.
The Osmond Brothers began as a barbershop quartet consisting of brothers Alan Osmond, Wayne Osmond, Merrill Osmond and Jay Osmond. They were later joined by younger siblings Donny Osmond and Jimmy Osmond, both of whom enjoyed success as solo artists. With the addition of Donny Osmond, the group became known as The Osmonds; performing both as teen idols and as a Rock band, their peak lasted from 1971 to 1975.
In 1972, The Osmond's had a cartoon show on ABC which 17 episodes were produced. Each episode featured one song by The Osmonds as a group and one solo song by either Donny Osmond or Jimmy Osmond. Songs are followed by the albums on which they were included. Most of the Osmond's group songs came from their Rock-era albums: Phase III (1972) and Crazy Horses (1972).
The Osmond brothers' only sister Marie Osmond, who rarely sang with her brothers at that time, launched a successful music career in 1973, both as a solo artist and as Donny Osmond's duet partner. By 1976, the band was no longer producing hit singles; that year, they transitioned into television with the ABC TV series: Donny & Marie, a popular variety show. The family and ABC built and operated Osmond Studios, a first-class television studio in Orem, Utah, where the show was produced beginning in 1977 and ran until 1979.
In 1978, both Donny Osmond and Marie Osmond starred in the film: Goin' Coconuts.
A revival of the original Osmond Brothers group lineup in the 1980s achieved moderate success in Country music, and both Donny Osmond and Marie Osmond separately made comebacks in their respective fields in the late-1980s.
In 2003, the Osmond Family was honored for their achievements in the entertainment industry with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The quartet continued to perform through their 50th anniversary in 2007, at which point Alan Osmond and later Wayne Osmond retired due to health issues; Jimmy Osmond was recruited after Alan Osmond's retirement, with the group performing as a trio until Jimmy Osmond suffered a stroke and retired in 2018. Alan Osmond's son David Osmond performed with the group in 2019. On October 14, 2019, the original Osmond Brothers quartet reunited for CBS' TV show: The Talk, for their sister Marie Osmond's 60th birthday, billed as the last appearance for the group. The brothers performed the song: "The Last Chapter", written as a farewell song and introduced in 2018.
Merrill Osmond and Jay Osmond continued to perform and tour sometime with Marie Osmond billed as Marie And The Osmonds, as did Donny Osmond as a solo artist. Merrill Osmond announced his retirement in 2022. In 2024, Donny Osmond still performs live on stage. In October 2024, Jay Osmond will begin a residency in Branson, Missouri, with Nathan Osmond.
    Donny & Marie's Vegas Residency 🏠:
From September 2008 to November 2019, Donny & Marie performed a 90-minute show at The Flamingo Hotel Las Vegas. The show began in September 2008 and was originally scheduled to run for six months. The response was so overwhelming that The Flamingo Hotel Las Vegas immediately asked for a two-year extension. The Donny & Marie Show ultimately ran for 11 years, ending its run in 2019. Donny & Marie has been awarded “The Best Show in Las Vegas” for 2012, 2013, and 2014, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The Flamingo Hotel Las Vegas showroom was renamed "The Donny And Marie Showroom" in 2013.
In 2023, Donny Osmond said in an American Songwriter interview that he misses working alongside his sister, but a collaboration won’t ever happen again. “I miss working with her because we had such a rapport onstage, but that whole era is passed”, said Donny Osmond. “It’s gone; it’s done”.
