I’m 70 years old and have been trying to bake bread for years, and they all have failed!!! Just wanted to thank you for your video because I’m eating a delicious slice of bread I made with my own hands !! 💕
From what I know you can skip the flour. The sugar helps to feed the yeast so I’m not sure if skipping the additional sugar makes much of a difference, I’ve never tried it. There may be a difference in the rise, but overall I’m sure you will come out with a delicious loaf of bread. Would love to hear how it turns out without the added sugar! 😊
How nice of your neighbor to help you out with snow removal. You are a wonderful neighbor to reciprocate and send over a fresh loaf of bread and jar of jam! That is true kindness! What goes around, comes around! 😊
Thanks for the one loaf recipe! Most recipes are for two or more loaves, so this is really helpful. To make measuring your flour easier, try using your red measuring cup set (dry ingredients} instead of the Pyrex (which is typicallly for liquid ingredients}. To get an accurate measurement, just fill your 1 cup with flour and use a knife or spatula to remove the excess/level it off before adding to other ingredients. ❤
Thanks for this recipe -the bread looks very good. When you proof the yeast in water and sugar it doesn’t have to double in size - just get foamy on the top!
I am a man that lives by himself. My stable diet is sandwich and beans so I want to thank you for showing me how to make real bread I tried your recipe and it worked perfectly I want to thank you for showing me your recipe and I love 💗 you and God bless you
You are so lucky to have a great neighbor. I am sure he enjoyed that. It is true about helpful neighbors back home. We just lost a really good neighbor before Christmas. He was always cleaning our gutters and helping us out. He collapsed in his back yard from a heart attack at 61 years old. We miss him so much. I just brought his wife and daughter a loaf of homemade bread. I never made just one loaf, but I think I will now. I enjoy doing it, and it keeps me busy to pass the time between tasks. Thanks for the recipe.😊
Thank you for the one loaf recipe, so many multi loaf recipes out there and I'm still trying to perfect my bread baking skills, you have a new subscriber too!!
I live in NS and this is so close to my Mothers' recipe being that the only difference she used margarine in the 1950s-60s. She made 8 to 10 loaves a week too like your Nan. I put all of your one loaf ingredients into my bread machine and it turned out wonderfully. The same taste and texture like I made it myself. Thank you for doing the work on the scaling down to that one loaf.
Oh my gosh!! Great recipe!! AND when my husband was very ill (Cancer) our neighbor came and cleared our driveway with his plow on his truck!! My husband said.."that man deserves a loaf of homemade bread"!! I have since sold and moved and am making this recipe now. I have not made bread in about 10yrs..looking forward to the finale product. OH and my grandson's aunt is from NewFoundland!! I will look at your other video's also..Happy Baking!!
Thanks so much for watching, and for your comment! I hope you love the bread! I love having good neighbours. Makes me remember there is still so much kindness out there 😊 Enjoy!!
I love your spirit of giving! I love to feed people, too! It's how I show my gratitude for their kindness to me! You are blessed to have such a kind neighbor, and he is blessed to have one in return!
Looking forward to trying this in my breadmaker. And if you've ever shoveled snow, you know that a neighbour coming by with a snowblower is a welcome sight! And you showing up with a loaf of homemade bread and homemade jam will also be a welcome sight!

❤just wanted to thank you for this bread recipe. I grew up on as small farm with my grandparents. Over the years her bread recipe was lost or somehow changed by my aunt. This bread tastes like my Grams recipe and I finally found a bread that tastes like hers. She used bake 10 or twelve loafs at a time. I would watch her bake bread in her farm kitchen. Even the smell of this bread baking takes me back to more kind and thoughtful time. Best regards to you and your family and thanks again.
Thank you for your kind comment. I’m so glad it helped you remember your Grams bread. My first video is a multiple loaf version (8 loaf) of this recipe if your are interested in trying that out 😊 They freeze great and taste amazing even after thawed. Thanks again for watching, and happy baking!
Hello! I came across your videos yesterday. I really enjoy how real you are and how you share/teach. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed week!
Love you were able to scale this down for people. The first step is really called activating the yeast (yeast is a living organism that is dormant until activated by the water and sugar is the food for the yeast), then you allow dough to rise, then right before you bake ,(second rise) is the "Proof" stage or some call final rise.
This is my first time to watch a video that you made. I think you are a very nice and thoughtful young woman. I am 74 and I just got a bread maker but I am not doing to well so far. I am going to give your bread a try. Thank you and God Bless you.

FYI, when measuring dry ingredients one ought to use the cups like the one you used to scoop out your flour. This is so you can level off the ingredient, whereas a wet ingredient needs the see-through measure to see that the ingred. is level at the measurement. Fortunately, bread making isn't as precise as say making a cake. Also, don't be so hard on yourself about where you stored your yeast. You live where it's pretty much cold year 'round. Most people live where it's cold 1/2 the time, so we do need to refrigerate --- in fact, I live in the tropics, so I m-u-s-t refrigerate, BUT my raising time is never as long! Thanks, I think I'll bake this o-n-e loaf in the toaster oven : ))
I just found your channel today, looking for bread recipes. After watching a few of your videos, I noticed that you haven't posted in a year or more. You have such a calming voice and explain things so well. I also love listening to you tell your stories. Does this mean that you will no longer be posting videos? I will have watched all of your videos my tomorrow. It feels like when you are almost done reading a great book, and it is the last one in the series. Please tell me that life just got busy for you but that you'll be back at some point. Thank you for some great recipes and life ideas.
Thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately demands of life have kept me from keeping up with videos, but I do hope to continue with them! Thanks again.
I'll definitely try this downsized version. With that said, when you make the large batch have you ever frozen the dough after shaping for the second rise?
I’ve never frozen the dough before but I know it can be done. I think just like you said, freeze it after the first rise. Don’t let it rise the second time, because as it thaws this will be considered the second rise.
Yes it works great. I just try to get as much air out before closing them. We eat them up pretty quick so they’re never usually in the freezer more than 3 months. If you have it in there longer you can use a freezer bag.
I haven’t tested the double loaf recipe. You probably don’t need to double the yeast, just add another 1 1/4 teaspoon id say. (For reference, when I make my 6-8 loaf recipe I only triple the yeast.)
@@bonnietrant5252 it could be one of those items specific for the area. Bread making and baking is quite popular in my area so they have a good stock of them at our store. There might be something similar on Amazon
Thank you for cutting this recipe down to one loaf. The only question I have is that in the 7-8 loaf recipe there is 51/2 cups warm water you add after you add the melted butter and yeast mixture to the flour. This water is missing from your 1 loaf recipe.
Good observation! I initially planned for that as well but soon realized it only needs the water from the yeast mixture and it turns out perfectly with just that. Happy baking!
I can’t remember but I think this loaf was going to a neighbour, I didn’t want to cut it up. But the first video on my channel with the multiple loaves shows it all. Same loaf, just the multiple recipe 😊 Thanks for watching!
I’m sorry I had to ask what are your measurements for the flower? I am a blind person, and you said absolutely no measurements for the flower. You mentioned the sugar you mentioned the salt and that’s all you mentioned you didn’t mention anything else what in the world? I don’t like your recipe too much music. I do not understand why people who want to create Contant like yours have to put in music and other distracting noise in the middle of the recipes while they’re cooking. I’m having a hard time understanding your recipe. sorry, but could you maybe write a list down in comments here? I don’t care for the music and the distracting noise from this recipe like I state I am 100% blind and I am having a hard time following your directions because of the awful music and background sounds.
I'm not blind and I can't stand the music in videos either. A lot of potential here but there is no method in the description. The most important tool for anyone new to bread making is to get a thermometer. You can kill the yeast if the water is too hot and it won't activate if it is too cool. When your bread is done you can take the internal temperature so you don't under or over bake. The package of yeast gives the temperature of the water needed to activate. If I guess I usually am wrong. I found an old Tuperwear plastic tool that works like a bench scrapers. It works great for picking up the dough off the couter and for lifting out of the bowl. I put very hot water in a cake pan on the bottom rack of my oven so the bread can proof.
I noticed you are using a liquid measuring cup to measure out your flour. I was always taught that the glass is for liquids not a dry measure. Now saying that are the 2 cups in your recipe actually 2 cups or did you write the recipe using your glass measure. I just want to make sure I have all the correct measurements. Thanx for your Nans recipe.
The recipe is for proper measuring cups but I do use the liquid ones! They were all I had when I started out and I find they give me a really nice loaf so I just keep with it 😊 Depending on the humidity, weather, etc I sometimes have to add flour while kneading but that’s no problem. Thanks for watching!

Is adding additional sugar needed for the flour
From what I know you can skip the flour. The sugar helps to feed the yeast so I’m not sure if skipping the additional sugar makes much of a difference, I’ve never tried it. There may be a difference in the rise, but overall I’m sure you will come out with a delicious loaf of bread. Would love to hear how it turns out without the added sugar! 😊
Mee too... Here the other thing.. proofing temp should be 110-112 that made a huge difference as well! 😉

Robin Hood all purpose flour
Do I double the yeast for 2 loaves? Anyone please
For two loaves try using 3 or 3 1/2 teaspoon of yeast rather than doubling it. Happy baking!
Self rising,all purpose,bread flour ?
I use Robin Hood all purpose flour. I’m sure bread flour would make it better, but where I am it’s very expensive compared to all purpose.
Can this recipe be done in a bread machine
I think so! I’ve never used a bread machine but I don’t see why not?
Maybe decrease the amount of water to 3/4 water for 2 cups of flour
Was that two cups of flour?
Yes 2 cups flour. The ingredients are in the description of you need to review at any time 😊
How ,much flour did you use
2 cups of all purpose flour
I keep my yeast in the freezer.
lordy - no idea what i did to the comment. none of that should be lined out! sorry
Haha no worries!
You didn’t say how much flour did you use.
2 cups of flour. The ingredients are in the description if you want to see it all written out. Happy baking!
Can you double this recipe?
Yes you can. I haven’t tested the double recipe for this, but I’d say instead of doubling the yeast just do 3 or 3 1/2 teaspoon.
How much FLOUR??? You never say!!
2 cups of flour 😊
Great recipe. I find American videos so quaint.(archaic) Still using cups, quarts, pounds, and of course bunches!
Why didn’t you showed us the crumb? Most people cut the bread open and show the result 🤷🏻♀️
