    I just found your channel today, Dec 9th, 2024, and it looks like you haven't posted in a year. I hope you will post again, I really like the homespun style of your videos. It makes me remember going up on our small farm years ago. I grew up hearing lunch called dinner and the evening meal called supper. I think rural folks used those terms and it only changed to lunch and dinner in more recent times with the advent of television in all the homes. I believe TV has caused viewers to become more homogenized. I would love a response and I would like to get to know you better. Here's hoping.

Timing things and adding sugar to yeast makes sense. I'll let you know how it turns out. My first time bread was raw too lol. I'm in Portugal cove just moved a year ago from Gander

    Geez, I hope you've gotten better since making this video. It took you 30 minutes to tell me how to make and bake a loaf of bread - and that should have taken 3-5 minutes. All the rest of the time was your banter and I'm sorry, but you are no entertainer. No like.

    If I was going to use 16 cups of flour I would differently go find me a container that held 16 cups so I wouldn't have to measure every time (that's just me).

    What oven temperature do you bake the bread on

    • @comehomecottage
      @comehomecottage 2 місяці тому

      350 Fahrenheit for 30 minutes (the time will vary depending on your oven. My old oven needed 40min, my current oven only 30). I would go with 30 and you can check it at that point. A thermometer helps here - the centre will need to be 190 Fahrenheit.

    I noticed you are using a liquid measuring cup to measure out your flour. I was always taught that the glass is for liquids not a dry measure. Now saying that are the 2 cups in your recipe actually 2 cups or did you write the recipe using your glass measure. I just want to make sure I have all the correct measurements. Thanx for your Nans recipe.

    • @comehomecottage
      @comehomecottage 2 місяці тому

      The recipe is for proper measuring cups but I do use the liquid ones! They were all I had when I started out and I find they give me a really nice loaf so I just keep with it 😊 Depending on the humidity, weather, etc I sometimes have to add flour while kneading but that’s no problem. Thanks for watching!

    I use a shower cap over the bowl to keep drafts out, also the fermenting dough generates heat so that helps. I put it in the microwave to avoid drafts.

  • @rhondab2431
    @rhondab2431 3 місяці тому

    You should invest in a stand mixer with a dough hook. Don’t wear your body out kneading that dough by hand! It’s easy and you can just make smaller recipes in the mixer for a couple loaves at a time:). Beautiful bread.

    You need a Universal Bosch Mixer, stop making it by hand. Kitchen aid is no where near as good as Bosch. Trust me!❤. I have eaten cheese whiz since I was a kid, I’m 59 now and I still love it but like the cheese whiz light way better, it’s less salty.

      Thanks for watching! I do have a video for a single loaf recipe. That can be doubled, but you don’t need to double the yeast. The recipe will call for 2 1/4 tsp for one loaf. Just do approximately 3 1/4tsp of yeast for a double batch and it should work great! Happy baking 😊

    You did ask for tips. I am 80 yrs. Old and have been baking bread since I was 23. If your kitchen table is lower than your counter ( I know some people have tall tables and chairs...awkward) you would do better to knead your dough there. You would be using your weight to knead and not your arm muscles. I always wanted a kitchen with a bread making counter. The other thing is get some Vitamin C powder and add two tsp. to this recipe. It works as a dough enhancer and a preservative. Rule of thumb-- 1 tsp. Per four loaves. ALWAYS double bag bread before freezing it and best to freeze it as soon as it is cool. I have been grinding my own wheat into flour for over 50 years. The taste is so much better than any flour you can buy. If you decide to go that route you will never look back. Best of luck in your UA-cam venture.
