    After trying many whisky drinks this month, I know know why my old friend settled on Glenlivet 12...I find it delicious and easy to sip...I pick up more nuttiness and vanilla than Horst advertises...very smooth...it's almost as if he loved it but didn't want to admit it...I don't really care about coloring or filtering, I rather not even know.

    I learned a new tasting method! I have tried The Glen Livet 12 before and grabbed a dram while watching your video. I had NEVER tasted the apple undertones until I mimicked you while you tasted it. The apple is definitely there. Quite pronounced.
    Now I wonder how do they get the vanilla and apple flavor in there? Is it added or a normal byproduct of the grain distilling process?

    • @strasnodimke
      @strasnodimke 5 років тому +3

      vanilla comes from casks, when casks are chared before spirit is put in them the burned wood produces sugars and with spirit in the cask and with maturation proces vanilla flavour start to develop

    the Laphroaig 10 yr is a superior scotch in my opinion for entry level single malt Scotch.

    Fruity means acetone taste. I'm sipping it right now and it tastes like J.B., highland Park, Glen moray 7 year, Old pultney, Glenfiddich. Some leather, some char. The taste is surely rich. Interesting a twelve year tastes as if it's been mixed with barrels that are less age. Nooooo they wouldn't do that. I had Glenlivet 12 about 5 years ago and it tastes much different this bottle. This would be an excellent single cask that is entirely 12 years. Won't buy again, of course i will put it all down my hole. Enjoy.

    • @rob850
      @rob850 4 роки тому

      @@CGoody564 tastes of pear and apple in the flavor description of usually speyside. The sweet pear taste is the conjures of nastiness. Acidic, young, and a special dehydration. They make the most off selling no age labeled, mild fruity whiskey. The finest is rich and malty with no fruit flavor at all. Smoke flavor covers up nasty flavors (jw red). A fine Irish whiskey is the essence of whiskey. Old pultney has a fine taste. A Sherry cask scotch doesn't go well on my tongue. Kentucky Bourbon is very nice with fresh cask. Don't know of any scotch that uses fresh cask, maybe someone does. The more scotch I get the more I realize it's mostly worth half the price and or mixed with accurate age and young barrels. I'd have to go to Scotland, walk into a distillery, bop someone on the he@d, uncork a 50 year cask of highland Park, dip my pour, for a slurp or two. Otherwise famous grouse would be ok priced at $18 for 750ml. Good day.

    I enjoy watching this stuff but I still doubt that people can sense that much flavor and aroma from whiskey and cigars. I mean "a light garlic note"? How could anyone prove or disprove this?

    • @Dantheman626
      @Dantheman626 6 років тому

      ocan1033 In my opinion it's all subjective. You taste and smell what your nose and tounge tell you as an individual. Compare what you taste to others for fun, not to see if you're right or wrong, no such thing. Keep tasting notes then try the same whisky weeks, months or even years apart. Who's to say if the spirit has changed or your palate.

    • @ocan1033
      @ocan1033 6 років тому

      Yes I get that and agree. On the other hand, there has to be some absolute when it comes to taste and nose .. if not in whether the whiskey is good or not, then in if what someone smells is actually there. You can't have a "light garlic note" unless garlic was somehow (remotely or otherwise) involved in the distilling or aging process. Admittedly, with whiskey, this can include a wide range of influences particularly when it comes to the wood of the cask and its interaction with the spirit over 12 or more years. Also, how would you distinguish between a good and average palate if this was all subjective .. the people who make the product and put the notes on the bottles have to have a clue what's in there.

    • @Dantheman626
      @Dantheman626 6 років тому

      ocan1033 I see what you mean. I would guess they put the tasting notes on the product so you somewhat know what to expect. Or most of the time the notes are almost like a guidemap. If it says "fruity" as a tasting note then your mind will look for that particular note and then will branch out to particular fruits. I would say the "absolute" notes are probably mass opinion.

      Well depending on your country's alcohol prices, instead of Glenlivet, I would recommend either Cragganmore or Dalwhinnie, if you wanna have a smooth gentle whisky. Or the Glenmorangie 10 yr is good bottle as well. They are my best bids on plain whisky's who has not been matured in sherry casks, smoked etc. Still mainstream whisky's, but value for money in the same pricerange as Glenlivet. They are Distillery bottle's tho. Everybody has a different taste of whisky,- this is just my oppinion on Glenlivet. Just dont think money vs. value does it on the Glenlivet. Slainté :-)
