    Starter
    Key switch
    Solenoid
    PTO Switch
    Clutch
    Magneto
    Battery
    Battery won't charge
    Engine won't start

    *My yard consists of roughly 3.5 acres of "mowable" area with several small hills **Bestfor.Garden** also recommend and valleys and tree-beds scattered throughout. Not only did the mower do a great job, but at the end of cutting the entire lawn, I STILL had 35% left on the battery.*

      After cutting 3.5 acres the battery should be 100% charged..

    I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

      My mower won't run without shaking the main body, sometimes it runs for a second, sometiems for a minute if the mower is kept moving, however when it runs around normal speed I can smell what seems like ozone just for a bit then goes away. Mower then stops and it takes quite a lot of shaking to get it to start again. No problem with circuit breaker.

    At 17:28 You're talking about the starter in a no crank situation, I think it would be important to mention if valve clearances aren't correct it will keep the starter from turning the motor over. It would cause a voltage drop across the system and have you chasing your tale. Also you can do a voltage drop test at the starter to ground on frame to see how much parasitic voltage loss from a failed ground to frame, whether it's a fraying wire or loose connection.

    Great advice here. I’m a Industrial Electrician and obtained a different brand zero turn mower for hardly any money. The previous owner melted the wiring harness and instead of repairing the mower they sold it to me. I got the mower home and troubleshoot the circuits to see if there was a faulty switch or coil. What I am getting to is as in my field we troubleshoot basically the same way and I printed off the wiring diagram and highlighted it like you said while troubleshooting and installing the new wiring harness. My mower has a diode for the clutch like you talked about and I wanted to understand the theory of why a diode was there. Man it’s been 20 plus years since I took electronic classes at tech school. So I did some research and you are also correct about backlash voltage when a high current circuit is opened. Once I read that a 💡

      Went off in my brain from tech school years ago. The diode diverts the spike back to ground vs damages to other electrical components. Again great advice buddy thank you.

    have an older wright sentar and the starter would not engage.
    so I bought new solenoid and new starter. installed and it engaged and started motor. ran great!
    buttoned everything back up,
    tried to start and starter will spin but not engage flywheel.
    so changed out new positive and new ground cables, checked grounds ( have schemetic) checked harness & cleaned connections. fuses are good. switch seems fine but gonna replace anyway. battery is big strong deep cell usually in boat.
    screw driver across new solenoid clicks and spins starter.
    any ideas?

    Good class on electrical theory. Always a confusing subject though. I have a Bad Boy that seems to stall when turning the key. The switch was just replaced and still stalling when turned. The relay was clicking all the time, so I watched a troubleshooting video which led me to the left steering handle switch. I'll check to see what date the battery is and the CCA. This motor is a 27HP Kohler. I would think 350 CCA should be sufficient. Also do you have any videos with showing the multimeter and what your settings are to test certain areas on the harness...thanks

    Is there any videos showing exactly how to test all these different scenarios? I understand the wiring harness . What i need to SEE is hands on , with the multimeter and why it gets set on certain things for certain diagnositc for one thing and why its changed to test for anotget issue. Looking for a video thats has trouble shooting fron A to Z. Not dogging this video by all means. Great video for learning the wiring harness and components. I need video hands on in real time showing trouble shooting an electrical system for example . He mentiins how to test for the regulator, but doesnt actually test the regulator and stater. I need to see it done from begining to end. As close to me being hands on. Thats the way i learn. I would junp right in but what scares me is hooking things up wrong and frying a component . I need the who what and why for trouble shooting electricak systems for DUMMIES. I AM DUMB. SO NO BEED TO TELL ME. i am tryinv to be smarter though... I reqlly am 😂. Thanks for any leads and info.

    I think I have an issue with my wright RH 48inch mower, it didn’t want to start up too good and when I went to engage blades it stalled the first time so I tried again and it struggled but the blades came on and it ran fine while cutting but kept struggling every time I would go to turn the blades on again, got a little better each time almost like it was warming up and got better as it did....although it was colder than normal (around 45 degrees Fahrenheit) I feel like that shouldn’t effect it if the engine is at a good temperature, I let it warm up at least 5 minutes before activating blades first time. hi. does the clutch go bad all at once? On my wright 32 walk-behind, all of a sudden the blades won't engage without any prior signs. I'm guessing its electrical. When I pull the switch the engine doesn't turn off unless i let go of the grips, so I don't think its the pto switch. I followed the wires and nothing looks off. So my question is does the clutch go bad without any signs? the machine is only a couple years old

      You could get you a battery charger plug it in the outlet turn the ignition key to on plug the black clamp to any metal on the mower and touch the red one to the red wire on the starter
      That'll make it start if something else went out on the mower like the ignition key switch could have a spark box could have could have a loose ground wire or loose to the battree if not doing nothing it can be a burnt out safety button

      Carlos, Each different model has a slightly different schematic. The best thing to do is go to part.wrightmfg.com and enter your mower's serial number. Browse to the electrical page and drill down to the part view of the main harness--that will pop up the schematic for your mower. if you have any issues just select the help tab on the left side of the screen. I'm glad this was helpful! Best wishes. -Ed

    Hi Ed, My Scag mower runs fine but when the the PTO is engaged it misfires occasionally and if I run into thick grass it almost dies. Almost as if it is not getting enough fuel or lacks power. I took it to the dealer for service last year thinking it was an electrical issue because it ran fine without the PTO but they told me it needed a new carb...did not solve the problem. I had someone else look at it and they installed new gas lines, fuel filter, air filter and a new Reed. He told me the fuel transfer valve was not working and should be replaced. The mower definitely runs better but still has the same issue when the PTO is engaged. I still think this may be electrical, Do you have any suggestions?

    • @WrightMowers
      @WrightMowers  7 років тому

      Michael, it's like your health. You can try to describe all your symptoms to the doctor but ultimately you do need to account for your instincts. You are probably right that it's electrical. 1. If you disconnect the kill wire at the engine that will keep the electrical system from killing the spark--just note that this is only a diagnostic procedure you MAY NOT BE ABLE TO TURN IT OFF without shutting off the fuel. 2. It could be a bad coil. When they get hot or create a weak spark they can begin skipping under full load. 3. The ignition power wire going to the fuel valve in the carburetor could be skipping causing the valve to close but I don't think this is likely since what I know of SCAG's electrical systems it's not connected to the clutch in any way. Note that a loose ground will also do this. I hope your issue is resolved quickly--electrical stuff can be mysterious. Whenever we have an un-diagnosed electrical issue pop up as a warranty issue we often advise the dealer to replace the entire harness to insure 100% the problem goes away. -Ed

    I have a John Deere L110 and the battery drains with the key turned off. My first battery lasted over 10 years. The second battery lasted one year and suddenly died and would not hold a charge. Thinking the battery was bad, I replaced it and the mower ran fine for the 4 hours to mow my 3 acres. When putting the mower away I started it again to confirm the battery was strong. I then turned it off and confirmed the key was in the off position. 10 days the mower would not start, the battery was dead. I charged the battery for 24 hours at 2 amps, but it would not start the mower. What would drain the battery with the key turned off?

    • @WrightMowers
      @WrightMowers  6 років тому

      Tim, We no longer make any Deere mowers so I can't answer for sure. If I recall they have a red wire that goes from the regulator on the engine to the positive stud on the starter. Check that wire, the main ground wire, and then you may need to check that the regulator is working, which you can do by reading the battery voltage. Voltage should be about 11-12v when off and about 14v when the engine is running. -Ed

I've had to call them before for service questions and you won't find a number on their website. You have to call 920-387-3150. Good luck, I hope you are up and running soon! -Ed Wright
