Only a master with decades of experience could shoot and provide a video like this one. What a pro you are T-bone! And most likely in the upper 1 percent of all engine mechanics in the united states of america, In my opinion. Every single twenty year old small engine mechanics should have required video watching of all of your videos As part of their small engine curriculum certificate. Because they're not going to learn from a more senior person in their shop, As the small shops they work at simply don't have Old professionals who are true masters like you. And by the way , I hope you don't mind, but I have watched so many lousy small engine repair videos that I simply tell them they need to watch some of yours to understand how to do them right. They don't know how to work and explain the repair at the same time or They are talking nearky all the time. And often these Part time mechanics shooting youtube videos to make $ work on a machine for the very first time!!! Just don't retire okay??? 😂 👍👍👍

While I still haven’t been able to fix my mower just yet, I just wanted to say that I love how you get right to diagnosing in your videos and you don’t need to first tell us the complete history of lawn mowers and how grass first came into existence to begin every video. The amount of videos on UA-cam like “Fix your (whatever) in 5 minutes!” that are 20 minutes long is insane haha.

This video saved me a bunch of time and frustration. I've got an old Z225 that has been parked for several years and the darn thing won't start. The fuel shutoff solenoid at the bottom of the carb is to blame, which I now know thanks to this video!
EDIT: Damn it keeps getting better, direct and specific instructions on how best to remove the carb on this model. I love it. You are the man T-Bone!!!

I’ve been doing repair work from my home for about ten years now and I rarely find it necessary to replace a carb. I can usually clean the carb and maybe replace the seals and/or replace the needle and seat. It is much less expensive to the customer to pay for the twenty minutes it takes to repair than the cost of a new carb - especially since I charge much less for labor than an actual shop. Parts and labor to clean the carb is usually less than fifty bucks as opposed to 100+ for a new OEM carb. An aftermarket carb is a crap shoot as to getting a good one.

Excellent video, I thought I had a bad solenoid but I couldn’t even jump it, turned out I had a loose bolt on the ground wire from the battery to the frame, loose at the frame. Tightened the bolt and it turns over great. Then I ran into running issues and blowback thru the carburetor and a no start, head gasket was blown, replaced that and now it only clicks again but spins over great with the plug removed so I’m guessing decompression spring is missing, will check for the bump and valve clearances tomorrow.

My 22 year old MTD 14.5 HP lawn tractor sat bone dry all last year because of the drought. Put ethanol free gas in the other day and.............no start. It ran great when I put her up, completely serviced. I had a feeling this would be the year she didn't start. At least it has spark, time to yank the carb I guess. Never had to yet after all these years. Fortunately my push mower fired up on the first pull.

It's a safety switch issue or a wire backed out of PTO connector. Test the safety switches with an ohm meter. Please test switches, I have a video on how to do that somewhere on my channel. Start with a careful visual inspection of wiring connectors. Then I'm off to testing switches with an ohm meter.

Don`t know if you can help me out, I have a John Deere L118 with a briggs Intec 22hp and every week when I go to use it I have to crank it for an extended period. I cleaned and rebuilt the carb, replaced the fuel filter, checked the tank and fuel hoses for debris or blockage, checked the gas cap vent, adjusted the valves, replaced the battery, and replaced the spark plugs. The choke cable is adjusted properly and the butterflys close the whole way when applied - it has been doing this since I have had it (I bought it used). Also, the compression seems fine on it. After I start it the initial time, it fires right up every time afterwards (unless it sits for a week or so). I appreciate any help!
