Taryl, Thank you! My husband was at work and I wanted to mow. Knew it was an electrical issue but figured I'd have to take it to the mechanic. Ended up being the 20 amp fuse which I did not know was there. I learned a lot and your video was fun too. Keep up the good work and thank you again!

Fuel shutoff on my JD X320 was only getting 10V and would not open. Traced back to 12 circuit M/F connector which was bad near Key. Recurring situation. Cleaned it several times and distorted male connector in Yellow wire to give tighter contact. I think you can still say Yellow! Next time plunger gets shortened as it is not Gravity feed.

Also, check to make sure that both of the wires that connect the fuse, hasn't wiggled loose.
That is what was wrong with mine. It is a very easy fix, and could save you hours of headaches. You won't hear a click when you turn the key. I found the problem when I checked the fuse.

I have taught many subjects in my time, so I know what I'm talking about. The true test of a great instructor is that he knows his subject matter cold from top to bottom. Many just memorize a subject and then try to teach it. They are not able to explain the how and why behind the subject matter. It is obvious you live your subject matter so you know the how and why behind why things behave the way they do, which is critical for the student to truly understand and retain the subject matter. Thanks for your knowledge and the special patience you display to take the time to thoroughly explain things that I'm certain are second nature to you.

Hey, Taryl--thanks for the advice on troubleshooting my 2002 John Deere tractor with 16 HP Deere/Kohler engine. It was running beautifully and just suddenly quit. I suspected a fuel flow issue, so I replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump, but that didn't solve the problem. I started researching on youtube and came across your "How to troubleshoot electrical problems", and when you described exactly what happened to me, I followed your advice and removed the fuel shutoff valve, cut off the small "plunger", and reinstalled. Now, she's running great again--Thank you!

This video perfectly demonstrates how mechanically driven is always better than electronically driven. Yes electronically driven is all nice and easy but it’s also always built to be thrown away in two years. If you wanna go and fix it all power to you. Mechanically driven will last 20 years plus and require normal tune ups.

The ignition switch is good, along with the pto switch. It will start and run fine until the brake is released. The pto clutch engages with the key on so its good. I've checked continuity on most of the wiring and I'm just about at the end of my rope. Any suggestions? Thanks

Last summer my mower just quit. No power. Kept blowing the 30amp fuse as soon as you turned key. I started from the back of the mower and started checking everything. Working my way forward. Over a few days checking for the short when I wasn't at work. Every switch. Then to wiring. Started pulling harness from back to front. Cleaning grounds and using die electric grease when reassembling. Last section of wiring was the headlights is where I found short inside loom that was zip tied too tight. Power and ground wire rubbed together 🙄. Now only if I started from front of mower. Would've only taken a minute to fix not a few days 😂

Don't know which direction to go now. cleaned the magnet on fly wheel, shear pin is OK turns over great but no spark. looked at harness for bad spots or broken wires and looks OK.

My lawn tractor has an issue.
1st. It ran fine and you could drive it around. I decided I was going to pulley swap it and after I did that, it would not start. Disconnected the battery and checked the lines. Slapped it back together and connected the battery, as I was connecting the battery, the engine steered turning over. I quickly turned the key off but nothing happened.

Thanks for all the video's. Lots of great info. I have an issue maybe you can help me with. I have a JD LT133. I burned up the stator and intended to rewind it. I noticed of the 3 wires coming from the stator that one of my stator wires was grounded to the stator body but is also wound on the last 6 posts and then connects to one end of the other wound wire. essentially that would make all my coil wires touching ground. How is this possible? This is a 13hp Kohler Command Series with a 3 amp stator. Thank you.

Is very informative video I have a question I have a Craftsman 42" LT 1750. 917.27222. The tractor died while I was mowing the grass. I reset everything and it started right up but as soon as I release the brake pedal it cut off then when I release the PTO it cut off. I cut the white wire going to the engine so I could defeat the safety system. Now I can drive it back to the shop. I have replaced the PTO switch the Ignition switch the interlock switch and the seat switch. I cannot figure out why the lawn mower is grounding out when I let go of the brake pedal or pull out the PTO. I have alleviated the problem by cutting the white wire that goes to the engine but I would love to trace down what is grounding out. what would be the testing process to find a bad ground?

I have a John Deere D140. When I start the engine I will here a whining noise (starter?) and the red positive wire to the battery terminal gets hot, smokes, and has melted some of the wire casing. The starter wire also feels warm that connects to the starter. I have replaced the solenoid from a John Deere supply store. I also replaced the battery with 350 cranking amps (melted the post off of the previous battery). I used my multi meter to check for resistance and continuity issues but could not find any. I pulled the engine cover off to view the starter. It appears that the gear thing is coming up and meeting flywheel. Sometimes it will start right away then if I shut if off and restart I get the whining noise, smoke coming from the positive battery terminal. I did not check the relay switch or ignition switch but do you think it is the starter? I bought this tractor used 3 years ago and replaced the starter once before (aftermarket) due to it smoking and cooking the windings.

To: Taryl, the mice have eaten the wires that goes under my seat, and now my cub cadet runs a little and stops. Could that be the reason it stops an starts?

The switches would be in series in the starter solenoid ckt. . If u or taryl are not in the seat
and the engine is shut off but blades were on when shut off, you have to dis-engage the blades
and sit down b4 engine can start.

You know what would help me most,,, with all due respect for your comedic video portions,,, that I could've done without,,, bcuz I didn't look up comedy,,,I looked up fixing this damn mower,,, I would've been able to learn better from your videos if you wouldn't have had some prop stuck in your mouth! I do, however, appreciate your tips on red neck modifications, such as cutting off the tit to the carb shut-off kill switch! That now is powerful red neck power!
I'm going to watch another,,, and have no real time to be commenting,, but I had to say that without it,,, it would've been nearly gold on platinum covered with diamonds!

With the safety switch's can't you just cut the wires and then join them together and tape them?
