Been studying Japanese for 3 months now. I do actually understand what they are saying. For all you out there who also try and want to learn Japanese, don't give up! Never give up!
Ahahhaa ikr!!😭😭 im finished memorized hiragana and now next to katakana but when u ask me abt hiragana again, my brain will say 'no' cuz im forgett again😭😭
Omoshiyoi deshou! It was interesting to see the pause to their answer to "meaning of life." It's an answer we all have to independently find on our own. I hope in the future I'll get to experience what it's like teaching English in Japan.
Even though I'm self studying Japanese I could understand most of what you guys were saying do to Anime and you guys being so expressive I also like hearing your guys opinions.
I love taking Japanese at my school, we have pen pals in Hiroshima and they came to visit us, it was AWESOME. わたしわいぬがすきです that translates to "i like dogs" dont ask me why i typed that. I just felt like it
I want to go to Japan when im older to experience the high school life there and mainly coz inspiration to learn their language. I just enjoy japanese words. Its so unique.
Your students are so sweet and pleasant and it is refreshing to see modesty in dress. Wish more of the American schools would return to uniforms. These young ladies are a breath of fresh air. Thanks so much for sharing their answers with us. Have wonderful day and God bless you and yours.
This is pretty late, but I would love more Japanese penpals if they want an American penpal!! I went to Japan in February and I'm going back for a year in March 2014 to be a foreign exchange student :) I'd love to learn more about Japan
I don't see the harm in it. As long as the teacher got written parental consent and there's no personally identifiable information in the video, then it seems like a fun and interesting project (remember pen pal assignments from childhood?)... Our school district, the largest in Texas, has every parent sign or deny a media release form as part of their child's registration paperwork (the majority do). This is why you'll see pictures of students in all the district's propaganda, 'er, I mean "public relations" media such as posters, billboards, and various web pages (every school's website has pictures of students learning and having fun). The thing is, there's no information about the students, just pictures.
1. Extracurriculars can carry on till 7pm at night for some clubs, it's pretty intense. 2. Sunset in the winter here is between 430-5...it's also pretty intense
I am relieved! When I came across this video, I became very concerned for you. I didn't realize that high school was treated differently than junior high and the like. By the way, I really liked your response to that troll who accused you of being a weeaboo just because you talked slowly and clearly. If people are paranoid about weeaboos, perhaps they shouldn't spend so much time watching videos about Japan and anime.
It has the questions written in English so they could see it written out. Japanese education doesn't stress free response much at all especially not in English, plus the vocabulary and expression ranges in English arent great, so we let them answer in Japanese to give the most honest response they could.
If you want to get English subtitles then, when watching the video there will be three dots on your right click it and turn on the "cc" and then click your preferred language
What about the whole 'tatamae' thing, though? Don't you think at least some of their answers will be ones they think they're expected to say or think your audience want to hear?
Starting to learn about Japanese culture, & language now, & planning a holiday for early next year with my teenage daughter. Will the blossoms be out do you think before end of March?

As in beauty wise mostly, or a bit culturally. So I really wonder what do they think about them and have they heard about countries like that? ^^
Well, these girls didn't have an opinion on Singapore - as they didn't know enough about the place. And that's Singapore! So, they probably don't have an opinion on South-East Asian countries, other than whatever they might hear about them on TV.
yeah, thats how it works here. wintertime it's full dark by 5pm. it's kind of annoying, since you'll sit around, thinking it must be like 9pm and time to start wrapping things up...and it's only 5:30. german school has always seemed interesting to me, but honestly, im kind of glad i didn't grow up in it.

kate Lips I'm learning Japanese as well, with the intention of becoming fluent, so I could visit the country with ease. I would recommend the Pimsleur cd's to start out with.
lol people SHOULD know that, sorry for some IGNORANT people here in the west every nation in the east like japan, korea singapore ect are simply a part of china and every asian is chinese -.-'' stupids..
1. You won't be beat up at all 2. There is no bacon and eggs place, and not many "breakfast" places either 3. Yes, most signs will be in English, or easily recognizable as the bathroom
What pains me more is knowing they've been studying English now since the fifth grade, so at least 6 years, and I STILL use a lot of Japanese for them to understand. That's indicative of bad foreign language pedagogy just all over the place

I didn't really need Subtitles. It was easy to tell what was being said by all the laughing and smiling. Thank you for another great video. Do you think you could make a video about the sunset? I kept looking out the window and it looked very captivating. I have never seen such a pink sunset. I grew up in Arizona, US and we have amazing sunsets of orange and red that are to die for.
On the subject of pen pals... I'm currently trying to learn Japanese with my wife so we would love pen pals from Japan. :) (from the UK) I really love these "inside Japan" style videos. It gives so much more of an idea of the people you will be around when you go there.
Haha, me too...it makes sense, though. In Korea, a lot of inspiration is taken from Japan so it makes sense vice-versa. I didn't realize quite how much, though!
I must agree with your approach, because I spent almost six straight years in the PRC (People's Republic of China), and I left with a very strong impression about China and its people, even though I never mastered the language. I think it is an excellent exercise for students, assuming that it is not concerned with improving their English speaking. Is there any way you can convene a live session to field questions directly from inquirers, and video-record the result? Thanks!
Really! That's outstanding. Would you say this is a somewhat recent thing happening there? I was always under the impression that rural towns were keeping the tradition of not being so open outside of their personal inner circles like family/friends.
as expected, their answers are boring, not personal at all, and are kind of "textbook answers", of "what should be said". As you asked them in the scool I wouldn't expect anything else
itll be way easier for you to google all that. year starts in april, ends in march. holidays are national holidays, then in most cases saturday and sunday
This video was shot from 4:30-5pm. In winter, the sun sets way early here. Also, my native language has no bearing on my work hours, as well it shouldn't. You go home when your work is done.
Hahaha I love this; "Do you want a foreign pen-pal?" I love their answers haha. And yeah English is hard! Even for a native speaker! I've been speaking Japanese for years now and it's SO much easier than English! haha
It also comes down to "Where" this school is located. The younger generation that are growing up in Tokyo and Osaka are very different from those outside the main cities and are far more open "when asked".
Hey Kawiijutsu! I'm from Australia and I've been watching your videos for some time now and I have to say just about everything in Japan fascinates me. I've been learning Japanese for almost 7 years now and one day I would like to teach English in Japan just like you. I have one question though... What do you think about the technology in Japan (phones, transport, consoles etc.) Love your videos. :)

"Their grammar"
Well I'm also having a hard time learning Japanese grammar.Oh and their Kanji too
+karmila faudzi getting a bit cocky over there, aren't we?

Ahahhaa ikr!!😭😭 im finished memorized hiragana and now next to katakana but when u ask me abt hiragana again, my brain will say 'no' cuz im forgett again😭😭
Omoshiyoi deshou! It was interesting to see the pause to their answer to "meaning of life." It's an answer we all have to independently find on our own. I hope in the future I'll get to experience what it's like teaching English in Japan.

That's my girl right there lol!!!
Even though I'm self studying Japanese I could understand most of what you guys were saying do to Anime and you guys being so expressive I also like hearing your guys opinions.
The middle girl was basically the one talking the most, the rest just looked at her first waiting for her to respond for they could follow.
These girls really like Korea
Some Japanese people love Korea, others don't.
I love Korea so much, but one of my friend really doesn't like Korea... :(

((o・д・)b good job♪
I want to go to Japan when im older to experience the high school life there and mainly coz inspiration to learn their language. I just enjoy japanese words. Its so unique.
That's that beautiful ass sun set.
I love the sky colors in the background
Your students are so sweet and pleasant and it is refreshing to see modesty in dress. Wish more of the American schools would return to uniforms. These young ladies are a breath of fresh air. Thanks so much for sharing their answers with us. Have wonderful day and God bless you and yours.
When that girl said she liked Linking Park!!
👌
+Afrolizer im sure they know it is "Linkin Park." they pronounce words differently because of their language, it is not an ignorance thing. :)
Jenny Martell I know that, I was commenting on the fact they knew who that was all the way out in Japan. Made my day!
+Afrolizer OH! my bad!! :/ sorry, i understand now :)
Jenny Martell Haha it's all good :)
I am so jealous of how fluently you can speak Japanese! I always try teaching myself, but I'm very easily sidetracked...TnT
This is pretty late, but I would love more Japanese penpals if they want an American penpal!! I went to Japan in February and I'm going back for a year in March 2014 to be a foreign exchange student :) I'd love to learn more about Japan

cha2093 An cafe ... i miss Bou
cool one of my favorites is Tenchi Mayo GXP
"sugoi".
Fuck me. Don't mix it in with English. Well, informal English.
This was the first video that really got me deeply into going to Japan some day (:
I don't see the harm in it. As long as the teacher got written parental consent and there's no personally identifiable information in the video, then it seems like a fun and interesting project (remember pen pal assignments from childhood?)...

What a cool video! It's nice that students wanted to help share their experience. What a cool opportunity. :)
Thank you! I'm teaching myself Japanese, not just the language bu the culture too, and this is helpful.
The girl at 4:41 haha
While all of this was cool to watch, but is anyone else amazed by that sunset?!
I wanna be one of their pen-pals xD
((That sounds super creepy but I'm 11...but I wanna have a Japanese friend >w
Maybe one day you'll have Japanese friends :)
If you were at least 13 I would've known the perfect website, I use it all the time
Justin Noker what site?
Dude, what the hell? The kid just wants a japanese penpal, why would you say that?
whY IS THIS SO POPULAR ??
why am i enjoying these types of videos so much?
The sunset is really pretty! Btw you are like an English teacher for Japan!
They are nuts for Korea, and Linkin Park is cool even in Japan!
Pardon?
Miko Oza They just really seem to enjoy the idea of visiting Korea, and I didn't realize Linkin Park had fans in Japan.
Oh, yeah kpop and linkin park have fans here in Japan :D
***** So, Joe Hahn is of Korean descent, but that doesn't mean they're good and BTW, I am part Korean.
***** You're a very butthurt Stinkin Fat fangirl. Learn to respect people's opinion or get off the internet.
how to tell gaijins from natives: when they are thinking of what to say they say umm while the natives say ano
What are gaijin
Natasha Newwonders it means foreigners in japanese
Or "eto... "
+Killer97 And is sometimes considered a derogatory term for foreigners.
+Killer97 I'm pretty sure if you live in Japan for long enough, you'll probably start saying eto... and ano... instead of umm...
So they only think Maple when it comes to Canadians... yup, lovin that syrup. Might go get drunk on it with my polar bear pal.
Jarrett Vlake Believe it or not, my Area does NOT have Maple Trees! And I live in Canada!
I don't think many areas in Canada actually have maple trees growing naturally. We got factories and maple farms for the syrup.
Jarrett Vlake I saw Maple Trees upon visiting Fredericton, NB, and that's part of Canada.
I honestly wouldn't know, I don't care enough about them to know.
Jarrett Vlake Then why did you comment back if you don't care about Canada? :\
the one in the middle is just adorable i just want to give her hugs...
1. Extracurriculars can carry on till 7pm at night for some clubs, it's pretty intense.
2. Sunset in the winter here is between 430-5...it's also pretty intense
the one in the middle is cute
We (English speaking) can't understand the answers.... ???
Subtitles.
+kawaiijutsu
Thank you. I had it turned off.
i think she said all over the world....
the one on the back is so kawai!
...I love their uniforms...
I thought they would be answering the questions in english too. What's the purpose of the paper they're holding anyway??
It has the questions written in English so they could see it written out. Japanese education doesn't stress free response much at all especially not in English, plus the vocabulary and expression ranges in English arent great, so we let them answer in Japanese to give the most honest response they could.
If you want to get English subtitles then, when watching the video there will be three dots on your right click it and turn on the "cc" and then click your preferred language
What about the whole 'tatamae' thing, though? Don't you think at least some of their answers will be ones they think they're expected to say or think your audience want to hear?
Why do Japanese girls do peace sign sometimes, what does it mean?
It's a "V" for victory, its their "thumbs up"
It means "I still virgin". :D
***** I know you're joking but that was so wrong on so many levels. It's still very funny, though. XD
TheBBCannon Lol XD
its our thumbs up, if I have to choose one meaning.
Actually, its just a sign.
Japanese also love korean music and dramas? omgee
Yaaay
Johanna Sweet ^3^ hi baby~
From just now i was looking at the background and their responses and I want to say they have this cuteness in replying..
Starting to learn about Japanese culture, & language now, & planning a holiday for early next year with my teenage daughter. Will the blossoms be out do you think before end of March?
I love how the one in the middle said "Linkin Park" XD
04:50
What!?! They don't know much about singapore!! (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
nuzod Wow you must have a lovely personality
Koto cy I sure hope he can smell sarcasm,..(unless the ignorance is too strong in this one!)

SWAG PRINCE Thats the face when i see a nice booty ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
SWAG PRINCE ?
I really wonder what they think about the southeast Asians, besides the Asians u hear regularly like China, Korea, and etc. Because in Southeast Asia places like Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, etc. have actually been affected from countries like China, Japan, and South Korea.
I love how they looked around while answering the question about bullying in their school, as though afraid of someone overhearing.
I'm trying to learn japanese and I think I'm doing pretty well. I can now insult people in Japanese haha XD And introuce my self. I can also understand some words. I love that girl poor! 4:43
OMG I FREAKED WHEN YOU SAID MIKU!!!! BAH! (Okay... now I will actually watch the rest of the video haha)
1. You won't be beat up at all
2. There is no bacon and eggs place, and not many "breakfast" places either
3. Yes, most signs will be in English, or easily recognizable as the bathroom
i totally want a Japanese pen- pal
sigh me up
when she ask about how popular is Hatsune Miku... *YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!"
I like it!
lol :D
Does it pain you to mix English and Japanese, knowing it's a very ineffective way to learn a language?
What pains me more is knowing they've been studying English now since the fifth grade, so at least 6 years, and I STILL use a lot of Japanese for them to understand. That's indicative of bad foreign language pedagogy just all over the place
kawaiijutsu I couldn't agree more.
My 3 year old son speaks much better English despite going to a Japanese only nursery and almost all of his relatives being unable to speak any English.
Teachers are still being forced to teach in ways they know don't work well.
back then it was in 7th grade, and yes after finishing high school it was not good.
but strangely i found out that it really gave me good foundation on grammar after i am quite comfortable with my english, my school english lesson really saves me whenever i feel confuse in english.
so not all bad it just they need to be pushed to interact in english regularly, likes nowadays in several schools that put several days in a week as english day where every communication should be made in english or the person (student or teacher) will be fined.
Heh. It's kinda hilarious, how they find learning English difficult, because I speak it as my home language, and even I have trouble with it!!
It's the only language I know and even I have trouble with it
I didn't really need Subtitles. It was easy to tell what was being said by all the laughing and smiling. Thank you for another great video. Do you think you could make a video about the sunset? oh... that might have helped but i understood more than i thought i would :D
They listen to linkin park!
Lol, they watch glee!
These girls has given me new hope in learning japanese! Though the hope will probably last only a few days..
This beautiful sunset that is seen in the window
Is that night school? Look at the window!
+Kim Choi Many Japanese schools have a rule that all students must be involved in school activities... so they're at school most of the day.
Lol, they listed all the mainstream anime.
+Su Nguyen well it's mainstream for a reason :P.
mostly of these japaneses girls like koreans
its for the kpop?

I love the sunset in the background over the window. But, what time it was? What time they end classes?
On the subject of pen pals... I'm currently trying to learn Japanese with my wife so we would love pen pals from Japan. :) (from the UK)
I really love these "inside Japan" style videos. It gives so much more of an idea of the people you will be around when you go there.

Is there any way you can convene a live session to field questions directly from inquirers, and video-record the result?
Thanks!
The video title is missleading cause you expect to be fine by understanding english only.
And you would be, if you followed the instructions posted in both the description and as an overlay comment to turn on subtitles.
ty sweetie. Didn't know they are accurate. Most often it's just subtitled phonetically.
kawaiijutsu the subtitles and overlay comments don't show up on mobile devices, and who reads the descriptions on videos?
+mikemustmurder they do actually
80+ percent of people read descriptions and there are subtitles on ALL mobile devices I've ever used (20+)
And FRANCE! She didn't ask about france!
They sounded really bored when they said they liked Americans. Makes one ponder.
0:21 that sky is so beautiful
Really!

It isn't that hard to get a broad perspective of the world's food by living in a metropolitan area for a few years.
of course, it is limited.
Hahaha I love this; "Do you want a foreign pen-pal?" I love their answers haha. And yeah English is hard! Even for a native speaker! I've been speaking Japanese for years now and it's SO much easier than English! haha
It depends on what food it is. You'd also have to check customs
It also comes down to "Where" this school is located.
The younger generation that are growing up in Tokyo and Osaka are very different from those outside the main cities and are far more open "when asked".
i laughed at how excited they were about full house
Hey Kawiijutsu!
