You came out of nowhere to be my new favorite teacher. Dude read these comments, we are praising you to no end. You do what others can’t do.
Yeah ! And I am sure it is the beer !
@W S
it's so easy to understand him
And me!
There's a saying - "if you can't simplify it. It's because you don't fully understand it."
I'm 69 years old and I've had many lessons and watched many UA-cam videos. This is absolutely the best lesson I've EVER "had" to explain how the blues work. I know this pattern and can play it blindfolded but you have taught me how to correctly use it and it makes so damn much sense. THANK YOU. You sound English but I wish you were in Arizona so I could take lessons from you. Many thanks "mate".
I want him in Kentucky it’s more like England. Everyone doesn’t play Bluegrass in the Bluegrass, the BluesGrass is needing help.
👍👍
Thank you so much for explaining this so well , I too have learned the pentatonic shape but never realy understood how to put it into practice and make a melody that made any sense.. can't thank you enough for this 😀
I’m 67 , in Arizona too. Happily Isolated in the desert, but it’s a long ways to town. UA-cam has been my teacher. This video opened a door, and now I can finally play a pentatonic with a groove. A great leap forward.
I watched many UA-cam vídeos, wauuuu this is absolutely the of the best lesson I have ever had explaning like you did. You are a Mester for me. Greetings from Africa Mozambique, how can i have your contact I want you as my teacher
You know that brilliant light bulb feeling you get when someone explains something so perfectly it just clicks in your brain, and you finally get it......well 👏🏻
Thanks! I'm an advanced beginner at an advanced age and these lessons have really opened some doors wide for me. I'd recommend your channel to anyone, beginner or advanced, who wants to not only get better, but also get a better understanding of music and the guitar.
This is pure gold. I think a lot of players understand these concepts individually. But, this ties them all together with great explanations and examples. This is the most helpful video I’ve seen in a long time. Thanks!
Agree 100%
What a breath of fresh air, a Teacher that doesn't blind you with them demonstrating what a great guitar shredder they are.
I have learnt more from this vid in the 22 minuets it was played, than all the other tutorials I've had to wade through.
Thank you, Just keep doing what your doing,
The clearest teaching style I have heard on UA-cam, bar none.
After spending quite some time trying to understand this stuff, the penny finally dropped with your easy to follow explanation. Thank you. I would appreciate more like this.
Excellent lessons.
Awsome 😊
Simply awesome! Love how you presnted this. What an awesome help this is in playing any lead with different Keys. Opens a huge understanding of how this works! Thank you Jules! Looking forward to watching you other videos!
Jules, my man, you are a born teacher. Now, I not only have a simple understanding of what was a whole lot of think-stuff, but your wonderful, calm, patient teaching style has given me the confidence to jump right in.
You are a find. I have subscribed and will tell others about you, too. THANK YOU, Jules.
Utterly loved this. Thank you!
This is brilliant! Thank you
Dude, I've been playing for 37 yrs and I'm pretty darn good, but I've always struggled with learning scales and concepts alike. I can do anything on the guitar but I can't make any sense of it all. Thank you!! You finally made sense of it all to me and I think you just opened a door for me big time. Not even door, you just constructed a new fastlane on my learning highway. In gonna fly now. Thanks again ✌️🤘
Great job - looked for more like this from you. Disappointed to find this is currently the only one. Hope you find the time to make more like this. Thank you - very helpful.
Thanks man, this have really helped me understand scales!
That was absolutely brilliant!!
I have watched two of your videos back to back twice and they have been the most informative guitar videos that I have watched anywhere on UA-cam. It has immensely helpful as a newbie. You need to get a million subscribers. Your videos are precise, clear, and to the point.
My mind blew so many times while watching this. What a great teacher! Thank you.
Amazing!!! thanks
What a legend.
Thank you!!!
No doubt about it..... One of the best videos you will find explaining how to piece all of these scales and notes together in a way that a beginner can understand! Thanks this was so motivating
Fantastic videos! Music theory, but kept simple and practical. I’m a big fan of guys like Marty and Justin, and have learned a lot from them. I would certainly add you to that list of outstanding teachers. Not sure why it took me so long to discover your channel. Thanks for the videos! Keep them coming!
Best explanation of these concepts I have ever seen. Bravo. Well done.
Really happy I found this vid ❤
I've been playing my whole life... and I've never heard anyone break this down in as clearer way as you have... so well done young man :)
I have been playing rock for 40 years, doing solos no problem without understanding what i was doing, only by ear, after watching this i now understand what im doing, i can now add some extra to it and explore new avenues knowing some theory. I only needed to watch this once. Comparing to other videos this one was easy to understand. Great teacher. Lets find out more!
This is the best video for Guitar scales so far I found on UA-cam. In 20 minutes he literally explains all the minor amd major scales and the way they structure just in one shape. Appreciate, sir!
Brilliant lesson. Makes it so clear to this beginner.
You're such a good and practical guitar teacher...one of the best out there! thanks for the lessons!
Absolutely fantastic! Great content, simply explained. I learned a lot that I didn't even know I was looking for! Thanks!
Brilliant, thank you so much!!
Thank you Bro…❤ you know how to explain things ❤
Great work - although I was aware of a lot of what was in the video, you put the whole thing together so well that at all makes so much more sense and this made it really useful... thank you!
Wow! No one has made it all come together like you just did. Was really struggling understanding the minor major pentatonic blues connections. This clicked and now I can proceed without giving up like I have many times in the past. Thank you!
This guy is absolutely awesome!!!!❤
Excellent video. This was so very helpful. You’re a very good teacher. Thank you.
Dude, this video was incredible! I've always been intimidated with Theory, but this made it seem a lot less daunting. You just earned a subscription, friend! Keep em' coming! :)
Love your lessons. Thank you.
I agree, great teacher, I'll be back here again
Thank you! This video was so rewarding to watch. You made the concepts so clear. I’ve been practicing the pentatonic scale without ever realizing what I can do with it besides exercising my fingers. You gave me hope.
You are the best! I'm a self-taught guitarist I've learned by learning all the chord grips I've been playing for over 40 years and these were always very tough for me I know the pentatonic scale in three positions along with the major scale, but it never made sense until now. You've shown me the door that I've been looking for for a very long time, and I very much enjoy walking through it. Thank you, jim
Thank you for this teachings. Blessings.
Absolutely one of the best tutorials I have evevr seen!
BEST explanation!! was lost just like you mentioned in between the charts. this is just perfect and to the point! THANK YOU
This is a great tutorial, well presented, interesting and made easy to understand, thank you, well done!
Absolutely excellent and comprehensive Jules. Thank you!!
Wow, just wow!! Thank you
Awesome teaching. I didn't think I could ever play any lead. You made this very easy to understand and follow. Now I just need to practice your method. Thanks for posting !!!
Brother, you're an incredible instructor! I learned in these 20 minutes very deep understanding of the scales that I used think I understood. My playing got different just now.
I've subscribed and hit the bill button to keep up.
Thank you so much, God bless you!
What a simply perfect lesson. Thank you
Definitely a thumbs up video. Saved it to watch again as many times as I need too. Thanks for explaining this concept.
Thank you, this helps me so much in my playing to XYZ backing track. Finding this video I subbed right away. I started playing a little over a year ago and I am now a practiced beginner lol. I am 58 and for some reason my brain (normally ready to absorb) does not memorize the fingerboard and notes as easily as say building an engine. So in my day to day noodling I can now more easily figure out where I am. The shapes work better for me to learn to play over a key and then as I progress knowing the notes is beginning to happen. I am restarting my lessons early in July so I can get serious about learning the basics again.
I'm 39yrs. of age and been playing guitar since I was 12. Still want to learn how to do blues riffs & licks I did not know how the pentatonic scale worked until I just watched you on this video. You are very easy to understand in with the way you show the charts I really like that.
Very smart way to explain the basics. Many thanks for making this available to us, Jules!
Brilliant. Absolutely perfect teaching. Thank you.
Really appreciate the valuable info and diving right into it without the teaser “ I’m gonna show in just a minute, but first…” Very helpful, very useful. Thank you!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I think you quite literally just changed my life. I'm revisitng guitar after bout 20 years (piano is my first instrument) of letting my stuff collect dust lol. You explained this so elegantly and I was able to put it to use immediately. 🙏Thank you so much! This is pure gold!
thank you for your well explained tutorials and demonstrations
Absolutely brilliant! Can't thank you enough for your effort!! Greetings from an older guy with new interest and a strat (first electric guru at 64:-)....
I really enjoyed this lesson. I learned the A minor pent. scale 40 years ago and now I'm understanding how to really use it. Plus I just purchased the same color strat your using in this lesson as a retirement present to myself (lake placid blue I believe) ? Thanks so much !!
Might be the best guitar tutorial video of all time. It's like i knew this but couldn't make sense of it and this just connects everything perfectly. Thank you so much, you're awesome!
You are the best teacher and accompanied documentation out there. Sincere thanks.
Yes! This is my own personal technique explained perfectly! You are the first person on UA-cam that I have seen who understands this concept.
I am a 58-year-old self-taught guitarist, and I discovered these patterns decades ago, but at first, I did not know why it worked, but my ears told me it had to be right.
Eventually, I learned enough theory to understand what was going on, but I have taught it to many people over the years without having to teach any more theory than you do in this video.
I would also add another little bit for those people that want to know how this relates to the modes because it is also very simple.
That last pattern you discuss that adds the B and F to the A minor pentatonic to get the C major scale is called the A Aeolian mode. The Aeolian mode will always get you to the major scale for the key that is 3 frets up from your blues root, aka... the Relative Major key.
If instead you added B and F-sharp, it would be the A Dorian mode (which now becomes G major, 2 frets down from the root, instead of C). You here this mode being used a lot by Clapton and Pink Floyd.
Finally, if you added F and B-flat you get A Phrygian, (which is now F major, 4 frets down from your root). This mode gets used in Metal a lot, where you have songs that repeat 2 chords that are a half-step apart.
So, without leaving the first box of A minor pentatonic, you have access to 3 commonly used modes and 3 different major scales, just by changing up which 2 notes you choose between F, F-sharp, B, and B-flat. The beautiful thing is that you don't really need to know what mode you're using because your ears will always tell you which notes sound right.
Of course, there is one other variation off of A that uses F-sharp and B-flat (the mirror opposite of your Aeolian pattern), but I can't remember what mode or key that is because I never use it, but I'm sure it is one.
Anyway, great video! I have subscribed to your channel.
Acronym for all of the MODE names;
"I" (IONIAN) - "Didn't" (DORIAN) - "Feel" (PHRYGIAN) - Lydias (LYDIAN)
"Mother" (MIXOLYDIAN), "Annie" (AEOLIAN) - "Oakley" (l(o)crian). Pronounced;
'LOCKRIAN'*
Yes excellent but put that on several video ! Great info tooooo much at one sitting 😂
Thanks for sharing! That last mode F# and Bb, could be considered a lydian dominant on C or G melodic minor (two of the most common ways to think about it.) Of course, there are are 7 notes in this scale (ABbCDEF#G) and as such there are 7 theoretical 'modalities' to it.
A jazz inverse (I don't know much about this one)
Bb Lydian Augmented (spacey sound)
C lydian dominant (an absolute classic)
D major minor (fun!)
E minor locrian (theoretical naming)
F# Superlocrian (nice sound)
G melodic minor (OG)
Have fun and keep jamming!

This is the best teaching on scale application theory I have ever seen. Excellent job. I am going to add this to my teaching immediately. If you want to make it perfect, add a second follow up video on why the pentatonic notes are more useful than the left out notes from the full major and minor scale notes. In other words what is the weakness of the left out notes and the strength of the kept notes.
Thanks Jules. Explained brilliantly. Great help to my playing.
Excellent pal, really understood your explanation of building scales tonality.
Thank-you
Dude, you did a great job of explaining this, you've got to do more of these lessons.
Fantastic lesson , Wow thank you so much for making this
You're the best! Thanks!
Wow, thank you!
That is excellent teaching. Thank you.
Absolutely superb 👌
Hey Jules, I absolutely love how you teach. I have been slaving away without much progress and then I finally found your videos, they simplify and explain and suddenly I am making the sounds I want to make. Thank you so much, I can not recommend you highly enough.
This is the clearest and most useful video I've ever seen.
This is the clearest, best and the simplest explanation. TQ
Fantastic lesson. Tq. And the finish on your guitar is just as amazing!
You are the best- a natural teacher!. You take hard and confusing concepts and make them very very simple, with diagrams and practical demos. Of all the videos I've looked at - yours are way above the rest. I've joined your subscription. Keep showing us with more lessons. Cheers !
I have only been playing for a year or so, but I finally had the "a-ha" moment in this video. Great work Jules, thankyou
I discovered most of what you show myself but there a few takeaways I really enjoy, Thanks a lot.

I really liked the simple explanation and breaking down your song like you did, thank you!
Brilliant description - I’ve watched so many UA-cam videos trying to explain this concept and never got it - the penny has just dropped, thank you, so clear - instant sub here.
So good lesson! I really appreciate it.
I've been playing for 2 years. (73 yrs old) I keep saying to myself, you are never going to learn all those scales. You just opened the door to make it not only possible but easy and fun! BTW, I discovered you watching your video, 5 Simple Hacks... To Master The Pentatonic. That video as well as this one are simply amazing. What I have gotten out of these two videos may have taken 5 years to learn or maybe to my grave without learning them , 😆😆😆. And you can dam sure bet I'll be watching lots more of your video's! If you ever get to central Florida let me know. The mouses house is fun to visit and lots of music venues here you might enjoy. Thank You for these videos!
This just cleared up so much that I was not understanding, thanks!
Fantastic Jules. Very well explained.
Love this guy and the quietest simplicity of learning the most amazing easy to understand guitar. Thx mate..!!! 😊😊😊
I love it. Thank you so much.
Jules you do the most brilliant clear presentation of how all guitar lead scales hang together. Surpasses all other videos I have looked at. Your teaching method - a real talent. Thanks.🎸
You explain it really well your a great teacher.
I love the way you play and explain…thanks from a beginner with passion
Awesome man. You explain things so clearly and make it very easy to follow. Thankyou!
I don't know why your videos haven't popped up in my feeds before, but now that they have, you have become one of my top three favorite guitar-skills teachers -- maybe the number one. You have excellent teaching skills and carry the topic all the way through the end, which means I don't have to search for other videos to get the rest of the story. I am pushing the second half of sixty years and am just starting to learn to play lead guitar for bluegrass, country, and Gospel after having played rhythm most of my life -- never needed to play lead before, but now I do -- life changes. Thank you.
the best guitar lession so far!!ever!!
...and out of the blue(s) you came...wow...simple and oh so easy you make it❤
I just love the way you explain everything, you are brilliant! Please keep it up!
A very informative and easy to follow lesson. No filler. Excellent.
