One thing I find helpful to remember is that the location of root notes go with the chord you are playing. A shape root note is A string. G Shape root note is on the G string, E shape the root is on the E strings, and D shape the root is on the D string

If you're a lead guitar player, this video is gold! Stitch mentioned a few videos that will also tie this practice idea to scales. I believe if you do the work he suggests in this video many will improve their ability to navigate the fretboard. BUT... if you want to take your guitar playing to the next level and play rhythm, the next practice idea would be for each shape of the CAGED chord system play all seven of the chords in the key with as little fretting hand movement as possible for each CAGED chord grip. If you've never tried that, practice the E and D shape first. Those 2 shapes will give you the most mileage IMHO.

I've been using the "root note sequence" for years, and have never seen anybody else describe this tool to date, except you, today.
This is the key to everything that matters on guitar. The "C" shape root notes should also be the NorthStar to the "c" shape pentatonic, and the "c" shape major scale, all right under that particular "c" shape root shape. At 17:40 you say you get that information "from finding your G major chord. I find it by finding any "G" note at all, and recognizing what "G" shape root shape comes before and after. From thier the chord, the Pentatonic and the Major all all under your fingers.

Been playing for awhile, and finally getting solid on the Caged system and realizing that I've been using concepts of it the whole time without realizing it. This video helped in how to get away from thinking about scales and finding locations on the fretboard. Another huge finding that helped me understand this video is how the shapes outline the pentatonic positions. 5 shapes...5 pentatonic positions.
