    Thanks for making this video. It's good to hear others have the same dilemma I've been having.
    I'm a 3D animator who's getting into 3D Sculpture. I've used a Wacom Intuos Pro daily for the last 6 years and it's been a dream. Zero wrist pain and no back and neck issues. I wanted a better eye/hand connection for sculpting so I bought a used Cintiq 22hd. I tried everything to get comfortable using that thing. My wrist aches, I have to lean over it, can never get the angle right and it's a lot more work to apply pen pressure horizontally rather than press down on the Intuos on my desktop. I'm selling the damn thing and going back to the Intous Pro full time. I love how much less I UNDO when I draw and sculpt on the Cintiq but I'll be a cripple if I use it for a week straight.
    I hope you solved your tablet woes. The stigma of the "disconnected" hand/eye experience with a pen tablet is overblown I think. With practice, it can be a great drawing experience and you'll be able to keep doing it without back/neck/wrist pain. Good luck!

      Sucks to hear that the Cintiq didn't work out for you =/ Every time I have to do some sort of lineart I dream of having a screen tablet, but since I can't even use my ipad for more than an hour, I know that owning a screen tablet will forever remain a pipe-dream for me haha
      For now I'm happy with my tiny Huion HS64. I agree with you on the stigma of the disconnected hand/eye experience. For me it's mostly just lineart that's a pain in the butt, the rest of the process isn't too bad!
      Anyway, I hope you solve your tablet woes too :D

      Yes i agree the hand/eye coordination is not an issue at all, what can be an issue is the distorted ratio between tablet size and display size. Meaning you do a certain drawing gesture in the tablet and it looks 2 or 5 times bigger in the screen depending on the tablet and screen sizes. In the regard, being screens very commonly around 22" or 25", is beyond me why there is almost a total lack of offer of big pen tablets. To mitigate this annoyance, 'm getting soon the huion wh 1409 (14 inches), which is like the only normally priced big pen tablet option in the whole world. And is not even giving me the 1:1 ratio by default (though, i will restrict the proyection of those 14" to a similar area of the screen to have it as close as 1:1 as possible)

    I've done a fair few commissions and personal pieces of art with my Cintiq 22 (the older version with express keys). I definitely got back pain even when I used an Ergotron arm. The only way for me to draw comfortably on it was to screw it on a board and put that on an easel. I went to art school and always found that being able to move around and draw from the shoulder makes my lines much more expressive and I don't get so much pain. At the time when I owned that I would use my Intuos 3 on a monitor for colouring or more painterly stuff and the Cintiq mostly for linework, as I found that made digital inking considerably more comfortable and fast.
    I ended up selling the Cintiq because I don't have as much space right now and I used my Intuos 3 exclusively. I recently purchased an Intuos 4 XL to see if the bigger size lets me draw from the shoulder more, as that's what I find more comfortable. I plan to angle it on my desk to get a similar setup to what you get on a drawing table, but looking straight at the monitor so my neck isn't strained as much. I can definitely tell you that drawing like that for hours every day messed up my neck something rotten.
    I have seen other artists who still use their Cintiq seemingly with no problem, mind, but that just doesn't work for me. I find that trying to be as near to the recommended posture (straight back, 90 degrees knees, feet on the ground) lets me work more with less strain.

    • @limochannel3871
      @limochannel3871  3 роки тому +3

      Dang, really sucks to hear that such an expensive piece of equipment ended up causing more harm than good. What you're describing is exactly the type of situation that I feared might happen, if I were to get a display tablet... the neck-strain that seems to go hand-in-hand with using a display tablet seems hard if not impossible to avoid, so I don’t know how people manage to use them all day without issue.
      Even an hour on the ipad did a number on me, so I can only imagine how your neck must've felt after a day or two of doing commissions on the Cintiq.
      Good thing that the Intuos 3 was there to save you, though! It seems that the Intuos 3 is a pretty good tablet, even though it's a bit old by now.. I've seen a few artists who still use this model, so that alone speaks for the build quality! Hopefully your new 4 XL turns out to be even better, due to its large size :D

    • @Renmiou
      @Renmiou 3 роки тому

      @@limochannel3871 Definitely. I really only want something bigger to help with arm strain. If I only drew as an hobby I'd keep using that ( and I got it in 2005!).

    • @Renmiou
      @Renmiou 3 роки тому

      @@Drumaier Yes. I've been using it a while and initially 7t felt really weird but it was a matter of an evening to get used to it. I find it much more satisfying to draw on because it allows me to make wider movements. I put it on a stand so it's tilted and the monitor is in an arm to be higher and this is much more comfortable for me. I plan to build a desk top with built-in tilted surface to put the tablet on when I have the time and I wouldn't go back. This way I look straight forward (the tablet is to the right rather than centred as I am right handed) and don't get anywhere near as much neck strain as I used to.

    I've been using a cintiq 16 for the past 2 years, and im considering going back to a screenless tablet exactly for the same reasons you listed. I found out too late that if you intend to buy a screen tablet, its best to go straight to big sizes (24 inches and up), so that your arm can move and rest on the tablet itself when using it. Still, you will need a proper ergo arm to hold it, so owning a proper screen tablet is a cost that at the moment i cant sustain ((and i already have spent a FAIR amount of €€€ trying to fix my posture while using the one i own)). I will definitely miss not being able to look down to the screen while inking, but i cant take the back, shoulder and knee pain anymore.

    If you have a screen tablet. Dont give up on it just yet. You can use your screen tablet as a screenless tablet. What you do is you lay your screen tablet flat. Go to your screen tablet's software and set your second monitor as your drawing monitor. Bring your drawing software to your second monitor and voila

    I care more about the ergonomics that's why I went with a pen tablet. Pen displays looks really cool though. But I don''t want my neck hurting after an hour or two of drawing. I hope more people in the art community realize this so back pains and carpal tunnels can be minimized.

    I’ve been using a screen-less drawing tablet for years now and have enjoyed it ever since. I received a Huion inspiroy from my friend who got an new iPad for himself. I have very little back pain, my hand doesn’t get in the way, and I save money on new products. Personally the only draw back in my mind is the inability to take it everywhere. In that area a iPad or smart tablet is the winner.

    great video!! love how you explained everything : D
    ive been using an ipad to draw since 2018 (started with the 6th gen one now i use the 12.9in ipad pro) and from 2018-2019 i'd draw semi-regularly and i didn't experience that much pain unless i drew like a ton. then i got a huion kamvas 13 in 2020 and became a full time illustrator and 2 years later i have very intense pain in my hand, arm, shoulders and back. I've been to countless doctors and therapists and so far it isn't getting any better. I've been drawing almost every day since 2020 (i love drawing too much to stop tho i do rest when i can!) and yeah lately i've been turning the display of my drawing tablet off and using it as a normal graphics tablet. it's much better for me and I'm actually ordering a new graphics tablet now!
    i recommend instead of investing in getting a display tablet its better to invest in having 2 monitors instead of one. you can look at any refs and info youll need on one screen and you can see your drawing on another

    Subscribed. As an iPad user for almost four years I gotta say the seating position and the angel and height which your iPad is set at can affect your posture during long periods of drawing.
    I draw two or three hours in one session and I take frequent breaks during the hour. So it feels like you need to take care of yourself when you’re drawing on an iPad or a pen display tablet.
    I voice for the iPad because it’s portable and you can do your work anywhere. Just get a good stand
    I got a Wacom one pen tablet for dirt cheap as I was learning to draw on photoshop and for 8 weeks I’d had consistent comfort seating when I drew on that. So hands for pen tablets for comfort.
    Anyway that was my personal input and hopefully it helps people deciding what to choose

It received fantastic reviews. I’m hoping I can adjust to drawing on it. I just feel so much better when I’m sitting upright working on other tasks on my pc. I’d love to have that same experience while drawing. Fingers crossed!

    Very nice review :) ...Personally I use a Wacom Intuos PRO Large paper edition...Ok, forget the paper edition because unfortunately the driver are not stable but the Tablet is great. I have been thinking a lot to upgrade to a Huion Kamvas 24 Pro 4k but honestly I start feeling that you cannot trust the majority of the UA-cam reviews because they are not really honest...The buyer tend to project his growth assuming that the device will fill the gap to become a PRO but the reality is that a simple drawing tablet used by a real PRO artist will make a great work... Nevertheless the Display tablet are really cool object but as you said sometimes are uneasy to use if your neck and your back are not happy with the posture you have to assume...In addition when you draw with the tablet your hand never hide the drawing....and a less complicated device face less problems in a long run and it is portable...😊

    I have a huion 16 pen display. I use it over 30 hours a week.( Huion being as good as Wacom is all hype.)
    To save my back and neck I never look at the screen. Instead I look straight ahead at my monitor as if it's a tablet. I should have bought a large intous pro. I hope Wacom starts making larger intous pro models again. I would love to know if 22- 24 inch pen displays with the arm are better/ worth it. But with all the BS reveiws there's no real way to know, so I am likely not to risk it.

    You should still consider getting pen displays, you can use it as screenless tablet the same way you used your ipad pro and sill have a screen to work on when you want to do precise lineart. You can disconect the monitor in the display settings on your computer and have the pen display work as a screenless tablet. Just beware of the new huions that comes with the PW517 pens, the initial activation force is horrible.

    • @jony_tough
      @jony_tough Рік тому

      Could you please elaborate on that pw517 pen? Cause I was about to get myself a 24 inch huion. And if pw517 is that bad, can I get another pen?

    • @PedroRodrigues-fh1ku
      @PedroRodrigues-fh1ku Рік тому

      @@jony_tough I dont remember if you can use the previous version of the huion pen in newer tablets. but the difference is that the pen with pentech 3.0 (the ones that has shorter nibs) have a bad initial activation force. It means that you will have to use a heavier pressure on the screen to get the pen to register the first level of pressure and regiter click. Imagine that you have both a marker and a pencil, if you drag a marker on a paper it will leave a mark regardles of the pressure you put on it, the ink just comes out of it as soon as it touches the paper, you can tie a string on this marker and drag it across the paper without any pressure at all and it will still leave mark on it, that most ressembles the preivous pen tech with longer nibs. Now a pencil would not leave a mark on a paper unless you apply a heavier pressure on the surface of the paper so the lead can get into the groove of the paper tooth, if you dont put pressure on it theres no "ink" coming out of the pencil so it will just glide on the surface without leaving any mark on it, that most ressemble the pen tech 3.0. Maybe they solved this issue already, when I was researching about this issue I find out it wasnt just a faulty pen I got, i t was a problem with the pen tech itself. I ended up getting a Gaomon PD2200 that has the same pen as older huions with great initial activation force but it had a lot of other issues with the driver that made my life hell. JUst keep researching before you comit to spend your money on those cheaper tablets, try to get the ones that are most mainstream because it means that has better support and compatibility if there are more people using them, or maybe save it until you can spend on overpriced Wacom, at least they have WAY better support and compatibility.

But it sucks very much for back pain and neck injuries, I mainly use my screen tablet turned off with a second monitor, i only turn the screen on when i need precision but you can have better precision with lazy nezumi program. Also not having your hand in the way is a good thing whne you are not using a screen tablet, it`s better for painting. My first tablet was a wacom bamboo, really great, then I got a Huion 950p, also really good, then and Ipad pro 12, a perfect device but it will break your neck and the apple pencil is too heavy for my workflow.
