I'm Quitting: Painful Truth About Drawing Tablet Reviews [Scribble Kibble

- I've reviewed drawing tablets for 3 years. Today I quit. These are the predatory techniques some companies use, both on buyers and on reviewers/artists themselves.
This doesn't change my past reviews. The info in them is still accurate.
Video of tablets shown here isn't necessarily related, just something to look at.

Wow, you get even more crap than me :D
I never got stuck with a customs fee. Love hearing your thoughts on this but I will miss your reviews and thoughts on this stuff. If you ever change your mind and jump back in to reviews I got your back :D
Is there any reason we can't ask to be paid to do the review and still do a good job? There is ALWAYS a reason to have a biased opinion and self serve, yet a lot of people like Brad and yourself don't alter the truth even if you're given a tablet or paid by the company. I think we keep trying to protect against the lie that getting paid to do our jobs causes us to lie. It's a reality that people lie, but youtubers that SELL a companies products should be thought of as professionals able to be paid like professionals and still produce honest, trustworthy reviews.
@@ARandomMonitor I absolutely agree that the likelihood of falling into the trap is greater when you think you are "untrappable". My main point is that getting paid to do a review doesn't equal biased untruthful review. I believe we are on the same page on that point, but correct me if I'm wrong. I'm saying that it can be done correctly with intelligent checks and balances without resorting to "reviewers should only review products they personally pay for". I don't think that's a sustainable business and if it is, that's because in some roundabout way the reviewer IS still getting paid for the review even if it's not that company paying them. Which can still cause bias.
Here is the long and short of it for me. I've seen countless people never even start attempting to do good things because their motivation wasn't perfect yet. It's likely it never will be perfect or that we will ever actually be unbiased completely. But THAT'S OKAY. That's why we watch multiple reviews from various biases or just find someone who has the same biases as us so we end up with a product we like. 😊
Btw, you didn't come across at all as angry or insulting. you made a lot of good points. Hopefully I also don't come across wrong. Capitalization used to emphasize the words not to text yell.
Brad, sorry about highjacking your kind and considerate comment to Crowne Prince. Was kind of hoping you would read my comment and reconsider your position on doing reviews. May be beneficial to get a bunch of us tech reviewers into a conversation somewhere and establish some education and standards to improve the situation for everyone, reviewers and manufacturers.
Tablet Pro Tablet Pro I do agree people need to make money, people have to eat, after all. The place that money comes from can affect the work you do though. When it’s through a group of viewers who you’re providing the reviews for, in general that provides a better environment for unbiased - or at leased consumer biased - reviews. Granted it’s not a guarantee, and I can think of a few examples where following the fans has actually caused it’s own issues, but it’s a better position at least.
Totally agree with you on the motivation bit. I’d love to make art but trying to draw anything is very stressful for me because I can see what I want yet feel how utterly awful my own work is, and there’s nothing immediate I can do about it.
On a somewhat related note, I wish that was the focus of shows that try to tell you you can do anything. Everyone already knows it takes hard work to get what you want, but if you tell a strong artist to draw with their off-hand, even they aren’t going to last long. They have the exact same almost physical repulsion to their work that I do when I try to draw, it’s crazy. There’s something about that they managed to get over at one time, and that’s the part people like me need help with.
@@TabletPro your comment is out of no where--
to be fair , a good tablet lasts you 10 years , so theres no need for these rweviews anyways , one good review is better than 100´s of advertisement disguised as reviews

Oh hi! I haven't watched your stuff in years but those creepypasta videos were so fun! Glad to know you're still active, I'mma watch your recent videos now
Another reason why I find it difficult to trust youtubers who review tablets is the fact that some will inevitably say only positive aspects of the product to please the company in hopes to receive more free products in the future. It's honestly disheartening to see up and coming art channels make reviews and give high praise to products that honestly don't deserve it because they are worried about their bottom line.
I honestly tend to just look for random amateurs who upload reviews for products I want because I know they spent their own money and they tend to be waaaay more honest about the products themselves.
@Ath Collins I don't have a specific channel because any channel dedicated to reviews are probably biased anyways. Just look for reviews of tablets/products you're interested but make sure the user has actually paid for it that way you'll know they are invested.

I tried to replace my small, old Wacom Bamboo Fun with another competitor brand. Big mistake. The pen tip was so wobbly (it feathered way too much) and the surface was far too smooth -> which may be great for gaming like OSU, but for the love of god, try to do a lot of detailed freehand drawing on that thing and you'll get a cramp because you need to focus mind and muscles thrice as usual. About time someone started spilling the T on this stuff. I feel it is especially important for younger viewers and new content creators to be aware of these sorts of issues.
Amazon and sites like that have surprisingly loose rules on reviews. I work for a construction company and we've had reviews removed from our Yelp pages just because the customer said that we asked them to write a review (we didnt tell them what to say or how to rate us in any way). I've heard about some products on Amazon having terms attached with the "free product" that can be shocking restrictive like requiring perfect scores and crap like that. They want an artist to do $1000 in advertising for them in return for a $100 product. This is why im always suspicious of any online review videos where someone just rambles on about how perfect their product is.
“T” means testosterone.., so I would suggest changing it to ‘Tea’

Arisuvi, I think so😆
Nope I saw the word review and tablets XD
Yup 😂
(Not sure how to fit this in, but I'm on a laptop and google chrome 100% zoom)The reason most of us were fooled was that we couldn't see the review part of the title. The title I saw was "I'm Quitting: Painful Truth About Drawing Tablet.." the dots were normal on his videos because of his thing at the end of his titles and with the context, I at least read the title as I'm Quitting: Painful Truth About Drawing TabletS. That made me think A."Please don't tell me you're actually quitting," and B."What's so bad about drawing tablets?". Well at least I'm informed about this. Oof, sorry you had to deal with that BS. My understanding is that this is pretty common with companies throughout the tech industry, not just with drawing tablet companies. It's a disgusting practice, what they do, and if it's not illegal already then it really should be.
It might just be a recent "major uptick" in the visibility of tech' companies... BUT I think it's worth pointing out that marketing practices have been shady as hell for generations across the board.
That's not to say every company out there is full of BS just because they approach you... There are genuinely decent people EVEN in marketing.
Bottom line???
Never EVER decide you want a fancy toy so bad you willingly jump backward through fiery hoops to get it... ;o)
Oh no, they ask you to do something which you can say "No" too, send you free stuff, have guidelines you can ignore, offer things you can negotiate with, and the worst they can do is just stop sending you free things. Good golly how oppressive.
There are laws on the matter, and you should familiarize yourself with them if you're either party in this situation.
Suddenly everything is illegal. Bad idea.
I experienced having drawing tablet companies to send me those “beginner” product models because they criticize me for being a “NEWBIE” to digital art. I may be an artist with an art medium adaptive trait but I do have a background with doing digital art and it doesn’t mean that I am completely unknowledgeable about it.🤷🏻♀️🤣
I may call my digital skills moderate or acceptable but we, artists, also got a pride with our creativity and having a company to criticize your digital knowledge as a “Newb” hits more differently 😭🤣
You forgot to mention you get stuck with a bunch of junk you don't want to even give away. Or the fact that you get 100 emails a day to review completely random junk like blenders and cell phone chargers. LOL...
God, I almost had a heart attack
Fantastic video. My experience also 100% reflects yours. I did my first tablet review a few weeks ago, but before that I rejected 4 companies who tried to get me to give them 5-star reviews, buy the product myself (and then "maybe perhaps who knows" refund me), only gave me a week to do a review (which...Why....? Do they think their tablet is going to break after more than a week?)...etc.....Absolutely shady and generally dishonest. My relationship to my viewers and respecting the trust they have in me will always be my priority over getting free products. This topic was important, thank you for covering it!
"When you're good at something, never do it for free." -The wise words of, wait, the JOKER? That can't be right.
I've recently bought a xp-pen deco 01 v2 tablet, i just watched reviews in spanish and english that weren't really from popular people, just a honest and personal opinion of the tablet. I might not know anything about what tablets are better or worse, but i've fallen in love with the first one i bought, it's really nice and easy to work with despite me never having one before, and the fact that it was pretty cheap for that quality comparing it to others is the cherry on top
I bought the same one last year, I wanted something basic, inexpensive and would handle decently drawing. It's got a few hiccups but gets the job done.

Every time I look for reviews on a tablets, I aaaaallways trust those tech channels and not popular artists bc most tech channels have experience with them and they usually aren’t sponsored
1 week after receiving? Some tablets issues get detected like 1 month later. If I'd make a review, I'd want to have worked with the tablet at least for a while.

Honestly I wish you had made this earlier when I was going on a tablet hunt. You made the huion H264 review around the same time my tablet broke on me. I was so, so tempted to get that tablet based on your review, and the price that I had to step back a bit and worry about longevity, and other cons that would come with a budget tablet company. I ended up getting a second hand wacom, but still, happy to see you come out with this info!
In honest truth, what tablets that you've reviewed were actually decent in your opinion?
Hey, I recently discovered your channel and love your content. I wanna ask, what tablet can you recommend for a beginner to use? I’m currently having a hard time deciding which display tablet to purchase.
Thank you for taking time to talk about this. I never knew tablet companies were pulling such stuff. And im sure your video will help artists not getting scammed.
My mom was thinking of buying me a drawing tablet!
_This is some good information!_
If it's your first one, just get a Wacom anyway. Their cheap ones might look like short on features but you can always just use keyboard shortcuts to do things. What matters is that the drawing experience is quite solid.
@Ath Collins I don't think it matters that much when coming to choosing from intro level Wacom stuffs. If you feel it fits your need, just go ahead. But if you are asking which size to pick, you shouldn't run into any issue with the small size unless you are on a large 4K display, and smaller means more ergonomic. Though if you already feel difficult writing smaller text you might want to get a bigger one.
Quick question in the beginning of your video where arrow isn't in the right place with your pen how do you fix that?
People saying they regret buying Huion why? I've been using my Huion h950p for two years now for animation and digital art and it still works perfectly. I only changed my pen nibs twice and even then there are no noticeable scratches on the surface. Compare that to it's equivalent Wacom intuos which costs twice as much with half the buttons missing (huion h950p has 8 wacom int has 4) also has a smaller surface area and pen pressure is also low. Just take care of your devices. I clean it every use and store it in its box everytime im done using it.
edit: i forgot to mention h950p has tilt functionality all those features for $50.
Huion seems to have 50/50 chance of getting a quality tablet and when the tablets aren’t the good ones they seem to suffer from serious issues (one comment says theirs caught fire). I also personally use the Wacom Intuos in the small size and It is amazing (feels natural, high quality, bluetooth, tilt support and a good size for what I draw) I don’t have issues with the fact it has only 4 buttons since I don’t use shortcut keys. Though it seems to really depend on what side of 50/50 spectrum you’re on.
@@turtle7898 I dont believe in that 50/50 bullsht because if it was that high of a chance to break then Huion would be out of business by now. You all are acting like Wacom doesn't break or its like the god of tablets. I just don't like wacom's price to performance because to me it feels like a rip off when you can have better deals else where. I would even say Apple's Ipad pro + apple pencil is a better deal because you can do many things on an ipad.
cx I’ve heard a lot more about Huions breaking then Wacoms so some type of quality issue must be present with some of the Huion tablets.
Huion is cheap crap, I’ve had my Kamvas 13 replaced three times and they still had the same issues. Made an instant switch to XP Pen after that.
Crowne! You scared us so bad! Thank goodness you're not quitting. I was actually thinking of buying a tablet one of my favorite you tubers reviewed but now I know the truth. Thank you for making this informative video!
Some are good, though.
Tablet companies: And I OOP-
What tablet do you recommend though? I'm trying to get my hands on a cintiq like one for drawing and making 3d models
I appreciate this video. I've been looking into getting into digital art and I noticed certain brands (that seemed to have better reviews and prices) were untouched in some videos.
Aw, you're one of the most honest tablet reviews out there and I enjoyed how you're not afraid to make direct comparisons and not leave out any pros or flaws and all. I still look into Wacom alternatives and using one but I'd understand that some of their marketing strategies can be really demanding. That said, thanks for all these reviews and wish you a good luck on your channel.
0:44 That's a cute animation style you put in your character. ☺️
Thanks for the shout out, I knew every time the artists do review some tablets it seems not right to me... It's always have good reviews, the critic just a few or none. I'm always look up to my friends who bought it themselves, so I trust their reviews instead or some artists/people with honest reviews about the tablets without company marketing behind them (I need to read some blogs or watch some videos before deciding that the tablet I'm looking for are good).
Pardon me? Don't ever do that again :c
Review another tablet?
@Crucibelle why so rude dimwit
Wait, did people just skim over parts of the title and assume you were quitting??🤣🤣🤣🤣 lolol but anyways, great video!
At least for me, I could not see the review when I clicked, and I don't read titles after I click on the video.
On my tablet feed, the full title didnt show until I actually clicked. Im pretty sure thats why we assumed that
The way it’s worded may confuse some people. It confused me a few times until I read it over.

Hi, im new to al' this. Thid was greatt video thank you! Im learning to do animation and want to use adobe animate and Im wondering, do i need a tablet and a stylus pen or can I just buy a stylus and draw on the table or some flat surface ? Also, im looking to do short 1min snimation as quickly as possib'e for socisl media so my cjaracter wil' dance, and move but wont be using fulll background animations because character will' be only doing talking or dancing or moving around funny and il use adobe premiere to do some camera and cut outs. Whats easiest snd fasted to product daily animation that wont tale top long ? Also i found a veilkl a15 on sale on amazon for 57$ amazon choice with over 2k reviews, would that be a good choice for me ?
My parents have got me a bosto tablet recently, around £156, its a decent screen size as far as I'm aware and I'm wondering if people have any advice regarding the bosto tablets. Are they good? Or was this a bad move? I've originally owned a wacom one but the wire connection in the tablet itself broke after a short time, and my current huion is a struggle to use because the pen is out of sync in a sense and the lag delay when drawing is annoying. I haven't been able to fix or change anything which is why I'm getting the bosto now for Christmas.
i remember huion told me to give them a 5 star review and i didnt??? and they got all snippity and emailed me like 5 times like p l e a s e
It's something I'll tell ya what.
If you do get back to this some day, you'll be able to have a jank-free review.
I’m thinking about wanting a gamon 1561 tablet- is that a good one? I need a slightly large tablet to animate with.
(I looked forward to using firealpaca/paint tool sai.)
Is that a good tablet to buy for those programs?
Nice information :). and good to hear honesty from people who get stuff sent to them for reviews.
This isn't an attempt nor a paid thing to mention.
But i like IBIS Paint app on Android and Iphone (i use iphone for it's Pressure sensitivity mechanic only available on iphone) that has many options to use and good material/ background material patterns for a simple background.
I wish they make a PC an Mac download for it. but i got no luck. it has a free unlimited time trial with limited brushes.
But the full thing is like, $7 one time purchase per account for all brushes . there is like 3 other options but that's a monthly subscription which i don't believe it's worth it. only gives Tone Curve, gradation map and cloud.
Just give the app a try and play around with it. if it's not your liking, then that's fine. your choice. If you do like it, try the $7 one. I think it was worth the cash.
Same, I love the app.
I use ibisPaint X for art and animation (which also uses other apps) and I love it, and don’t have to pay anything (I just watch the video for the extra brushes).
Ya, I saw this coming a little. Well, although they were useful, I understand that this was probably tedious (In more than one way). Well, thank you for the miniseries!
So what tablets do you recommend now? I’m planning to get a tablet this Christmas but not sure which one and I’m having trouble.
I have a question for you what tablet do you think is the best for a starting animation?))
So according to your independent thoughts, which drawing tablet do you love the most?
Even though I’m a traditional artist, I appreciate the exposing of companies practices
what's the best (and affordable) display tablet? i've been looking into huion but a lot have been saying that it breaks down easily. Wacom on the other hand is a bit expensive but long lasting. So im really confused which brand to buy
I'm glad you made a video regarding this matter, I'm a first timer in buying drawing tablets so I guess I really need to be conscious about my favorite artists reviews, Thanks!
All I saw was
"I'm quitting: Painful truth about drawing..."
And I was like NO- I mean, drawing IS painful but *NOOO*
Don't scare me like that! >:0
Hey they secured the bag i respect it 💪💪
Hi! Sorry for promoting.
I’m an aspiring digital artist.
I create my art using my phone and my bare fingers. I would really appreciate if you could visit my channel!
Thank you so much!❤️
2:19 thanks for showing how you draw your character. I'm glad that I learned something about drawing in this video.
I am in doubt between two tablets, the Huion H950p and the Huion new 1060 plus wich one is better?
Once they have sent you the tablet, what recourse do they have if you refuse to do the review on time etc? Is there a contract involved or anything?

You didn't factor in all the people making holier-than-thou comments about how people should read the titles 😂
okay we get it you thought they were quitting art or youtube
can you stop now please? I was hoping to read some actual comments
Not gonna lie
*I kinda sorta feel that way, too.*
Hey! It was very helpful for me , I want to start digital art so I am thinking to buy huion h950p should i ? And no then what should i buy under 70$
thank you for this video so much. AFTER 3 YEARS, I finally saw in your vid what the iron ring thing was for in my pen stylus box. I been trying to remove the original tip from my pen for YEARS. Then I saw you just pinch it with the almuinium and pull it. I never knew. Thank you so much. I might make my own video on just that. Idk Im 18 and young, that really blew my mind. I thought the ring was to just hold all the other plastic color options for my pen. Thank you. Life saver
At the end of the day, for most people, a tablet you get at aliexpress will do. They also sell the same on Amazon.
