@@ms.music2k Hi and thanks for the support
Im an electrician, my concern is im guessing that is a ring, are you sure you have not spured off a spur without a fcu? You want to trace back that cable to see where it has come from, might be fine but best to check. Also those screw type junction boxes can no longer be put under floorboards as they need to be accessible. For junction boxes under floors you need to use maintenance free junction boxes. Try a spade bit to get through the joist, would have cost you about £2 and saved a lot of time and effort.. I would get someone to test your alteration Zs and PSC to make sure your good.
@steve11211 Hi Steve, some great pointers here. Thank you.
In a previous video, I removed a socket in this same room, I extended it to have the socket a little further and moved it 450cm from the floor.
I looked at the previous EICR, and there were no concerns on wiring. I strictly did not spur off any sockets, and all I did was relocate some sockets to move them 450 high or put them in a more appropriate location.
Based on what I mentioned above, what else do you think I can do. Or do you think I should still get it checked again after I relocate sockets.
I also wanted to change all the socket faces to nicer looking ones as the current ones are looking really outdated.
@@jlpropertychannel9900 From what you have described you should be ok, make sure all the connections are tight and are clamping to the copper. When you screw up the socket screws tighten them, bend the cables back putting the socket flush with the wall then pull it out a bit again and tighten as moving the cables can loosen them in the connections, make sure to use the correct sized flat blade screwdriver as a smaller size will not tighten it correctly and a larger will not fit
The difference though with a sparky is we have expensive testing equipment to make sure there are no issues, my recommendation would always be to get it tested or preferable get a sparky, you can work with the sparky, you can take up the floorboards etc, but its your life your risking, electricity is dangerous, just because it works does not make it safe.
The problem with doing any electrical work is just the experience, I have done thousands of sockets and know I can do them correctly and if I do make a mistake which we all can I test so I can find and correct the mistake, if you make a mistake it can cause a fire or kill you, to do electrical work you should be competent, this is not a self certifying thing that you can just say you think you are competent, competency is either though experience (Working with a sparky) or training so from that stand point I don't think you are competent, with gas and electricity it is always best to get in a pro as it can cause a fire or worse kill you, have a go at decorating, or plastering, hell even plumbing, stuff that won't kill you.
A sparky takes at least 2yrs to qualify and has to go through so many tests both theory and practical, it costs thousands to train and you have to have thousands worth of tools, its not what you know that you don't know that will get you in trouble, its what you don't know that you don't know, it doesnt take 2yrs to qualify just to say brown to live, blue to neutral, green/yellow to earth.
Hope that helps, I know any trades are expensive but honestly there is a reason for that, im all for DIY, and work with the sparky so that you can learn and you can do the none electrical work to speed things up and save you money, ive done this loads of times with customers..
@steve11211 Amazing reply, thanks 😊
After changing the socket faces and moving some sockets. I wanted to get a safety check done. Hope this improves what I have done in terms of checking the safety, etc.
You sound like a very helpful sparky, and I am curious do you work anywhere close to the midlands.
Appreciate all the constructive feedback so far 😀
@@jlpropertychannel9900 Sounds like a good plan.. Unfortunately not im in South West, best of luck though.. :)
@steve11211 thanks Steve, same to you
It is hard to get an electrician for a small job like that for an affordable price. They all want big jobs. Will have a really high minimum call out charge. It leads to people trying to do electrics themselves and they do some dangerous wiring.
@BillyGold007 Hi there, thanks for your comment.
Very true, I have been working with electricians for over ten years as I do up properties and then sell them.
Doing small jobs will incur a call out fee and then the expense of the job itself. I understand from their point of view though as they need money just as much as we do.
But in general things are sooo much higher compared to me renovating only a couple years ago.
Sweet jesus.
Ohh lol
Whilst you’re renovating I’d definitely consider running all new cables to the fuse board and try not to have any joints under the floor if possible. The old cable that you connected to the new looks like it needs replacing
Hi Kevin, really appreciate this feedback... would be great to have you give feedback where needed on other videos too. Thanks Jay
Did you also write your own Building Regulations Compliance Certificate for the work you did?
@stephenrobbins2931 Did I claim to have a certificate at all?
Seems like you are claiming to be building control on UA-cam. Lol
@@jlpropertychannel9900 you are legally required to have it certified in the UK, anyone with an iota of sense knows that.
Good luck explaining you did it yourself and were so dumb you posted it on You tube, when the authorities find out. Lol
For that work its not required, only if doing work within zones in bathroom, change consumer unit new circuit. Making alterations to an existing circuit does not fall under part P so no building compliance certificate needed.
@steve11211 Hi Steve, that is great info to know. Would be useful to know for others who might be ready this ... thank you
pure madness this guy is deluded
@lesmoor001 Les, there is no context to your comment, but thanks anyway as it helps the algorithm
