Ryan, I'm an Interior Designer in the states and stumbled upon your channel, specifically the house renovation, and after watching this particular video, I've felt compelled to reach out and to say "Bravo"! Not only are you witty and quite charming to watch, but I am greatly looking forward to following you on this journey... I do see I'm about 2 months late to when this was posted- but better late than never. Thank you for the entertaining content & for sharing this exciting, and sometimes unsettling, time with us.

Well.... I don't have the same view. Ryan have a broken car and doesn't seems to have the budget to go see the mechanics for repairs. What's more important? Repair your car you use each day, buy something like this skeleton who is falling apart? Or, finish and respect your engagement you have done to a sincere friend who gave you an access to an appartement? What is more urgent? Make your priorities. For me it's simple.

@@ClaraSunshine Ryan has purchased a house, which is an investment for the future, he has no set time limit in which to finish it, so if it takes 2 or 3 + years it does not matter. Billy has benefitted from the work Ryan has already done in the flat, he is no hurry to get them done as he is not renting them out at all, so all the work Ryan has done so far is work Billy does not have to do himself. I am sure Billy is thrilled that his best mate has got his foot on the property ladder. As to the car, it is running and he is happy with it, and has enough friends and relatives that can help out with repairs etc.

Telling people to not watch is counter productive, as he receives his ONLY income based on youtube views. I think shunning watchers may be the wrong way to go forwards. Well, you confirmed my math. You bought it for 15K, selling price when done up may be 120-150K, so that leaves you about 100K for renovation. Also considering the roof is in good condition.
I expect 120-150K for a midsize house in the middle of town is quite reasonable.
And when done it will be a house with a lot of character. Just look at that old lantern on the corner of the house. That is a *MUST RESTORE* feature! Imagine the look of it when it is burning once more. Mysterious wisps of fog swirling around it. Very Vidocq!
As for the tunnel, a coal shute seems unlikely to me because impractical. Also the foundation of the house, and also parts of the walls, seem more like 18th century or even earlier,.
Like I suggested before, you might do some digging in the town archives. Could be interesting.

I think you just encapsulated the value that Ryan brings by "talking to the camera." Sometimes in the past of media (TV, movies), certain people have been a success just because of who they are, - there's that certain engaging thing about them, and I think Ryan has that, whether he knew it to start with or not. I was an OG viewer of Doing It Ourselves and The Chateau Diaries, that's where I first saw Ryan. When he launched his own channel, I would watch, and when I realized that I kept clicking on his channel, I finally subscribed. I used to watch a whole string of related channels, but now I'm busier than I was or something has turned me off to those other channels, so now Ryan's channel and 3 others are the only ones I'm apt to watch. I just don't have time to fit them all in anymore without my own house falling down around my ears. Watching Ryan is like keeping in touch with your brother, son or nephew, who has a personality that elicits fond feelings.

Thank you for replying the questions we had! Particularly the garden information! If there is land behind it, and you don't own it, maybe you can have a nice patio on the second floor that you can sit outside looking at the view. It would be priceless and enjoy nature! Home ownership isn't for the faint of heart but with the odds that stacked against you, you persevere and got to the first step, was to buy the house. Now those renovations that you did and will do, are your own goals. One bite at a time! I hope you will do more Q and A's, even if you can do it once a week if you don't have much of a content on your renovation.

I don't know what permission he would need from the town, but if he could, later, it might be nice to put a flat roof on the shorter part, steel beams to support it well, a very slight slope to the roof for drainage, maybe into a rain barrel the neighbors (who sold him the place) could use for their garden. A flat roof would allow for a very nice patio, that, with a couple of carved, pierced, wooden, folding screens, could even be used as a sleeping porch on hot summer nights.

As for the channel knockers I find the majority don’t have their own channel, what are they afraid of ?😀 Anyway keep doing what you are doing , given time you’ll have a very cool little pad there , here in NZ in Auckland you couldn’t buy a garage for what you paid for the whole house prices here are insane.
