    I just passed the on-boarding. If you are interested in becoming a driver, do not take on-boarding lightly. Study pre-trip and get out and look for backing.

    • @twocents4912
      @twocents4912 2 роки тому +15

      @@rmcmunoz2 the whole point is to see both sides. Set the trailer up to go in, then get out and circle the entire truck before you break the plane to go in. Make your adjustments before going too deep in between the trailers. Get a view of both sides, then back straight. Make your adjustment as much as possible without going too deep in between trailers. That is where you hit trailers. Going too deep. But, yes you will still need to get out every time even if you can go straight in. People can walk between trailers without you knowing they are there.

    Hey Rich thanks for the great videos you've been putting out. I've done the Walmart dedicated account for several companies and there is one neighborhood store in Compton, CA at avalon and east del amo blvd that is a nightmare. Very little room to set up and back. I've talked to many Walmart drivers who say they curse it every time they have to go there. Most of the superstores are easy though not all.

      I just pulled it up on Google map, looks like it’s one way in one way out with blind side backing being your only option. Question is how do you get to the dock without backing off the street and reversing all the way to the dock? Unless you can clear that turn in front of the store. Lol hats off to you driver. I’ve been driving for 16 years and that shit looks challenging.

      There is a Walmart in fairfax. Va. I was on the account in Gordonsville, VA for 4 years, left February 2022. The Walmart in fairfax wasn't easy at all. You got traffic from a small plaza constantly trying to squeeze by even tho there's multiple ways to leave they want to drive through the Walmart parking lot. I mean busy nonstop. If you look on Google maps it looks like you have room but its very deceiving.The more I did it I learned a setup that made it easier but I would show up with a load and another driver had been there for 20 minutes trying to back up. Easiest was probably Onley, VA. Most Dangerous Norfolk, VA always some character walking behind the store late night. Friendliest store Pocomoke city, MD, horrible route going from Lewisburg, WV Walmart to Pearisburg, VA on us 219. Tight and curvy

    I would’ve driven alongside the outer wall and rode that out till my back-left tandems align with the front of the parked trailer. My entire tractor trailer would be facing opposite direction on an angle. Then I would’ve backed it in 90 degrees using the parked trailer as my wall. Maybe I’m complicating things but that’s how I would’ve done it 😅

    • @WalmartRich
      @WalmartRich  Рік тому +1

      I'm not sure I follow but that odd angle doesn't have much front end room. and that small break in the wall is not always open so its hard to use that. if you follow the short wall then drive toward the building and cut a hard left you can kinda get the tail of the trailer pointed at the hole. I'd like to see your example. Maybe its better

    I don’t understand the reason for all the explanations other than the importance of walking around the truck for testing purposes. You approach the backing situation as you would any other time. Survey the area, get a mental picture of your approach and setup and back carefully into the lane. Each driver has had to back up at truck stops and/ or Mom and Pop delivery locations. Don’t stress yourself out, drive safely as you normally would. Just my opinion

      I can respect that. I discussed this with a few folks at walmart. We came to 2 conclusions.
      1. I am not a CDT. I am only giving advice and opinions. What I am showing is really no different than what people learned in school, at a company, or with experience on the road. Anyone can Google map a store and see how this might look. The real fact is you can study all you want. What I did in this video is what I did for people in my class. A person in my class or putting in an app is, at that stage, no different. The main thing is can they physically perform. All the prep in the world won't help them actually perform.
      2. If someone was to search out my videos, that is a good sign. It shows a driver that cares. We asked ourselves, would you rather work with a driver who doesn't care, or sommeone who does prep, thinks ahead, and wants to learn?
      For those reasons I decided to answer the question. Many people asked about backing. It took me 5 videos to finally post it.

      @@tomhicks2458 maybe the title is a poor way of saying things? Any driver can tell someone what to expect or what they went went through, but its by no mean no guarantee they will. I have had several people keep in contact with me. Even after watching my videos and private conversations they still don't pass. As you know, some drivers can, and some can't.
      I appreciate this conversation.

    So is this why every Walmart driver execute their manuevers the same way?

    • @WalmartRich
      @WalmartRich  2 роки тому +1

      Yes. Walmart is self insured. So to eliminate accidents and incidents they retrain drivers to get in good habits. They worked in conjunction with the blue angel flight program and how they train thier pilots. Then adapted the training to drivers.

    I passed onboarding a year ago, I also had no experience in this type of backing, they agreed to teach me 2 extra days of backing with their instructors, along with another driver . I got to learn 2 different techniques of how to approach this test. In all honesty I do not think you explained this clearly enough. You left out a ton of details , part of which is that you used a pez dispenser, it's better to show people the articulation of the truck as compared with the orientation of the trailer, because you left out the part about correcting your position of you undershoot your setup, the instructor taught me you have to kick out the trailer to correct for that mistake. Plus there are 2 strategies to set up and execute this test, one is being closer to the cones and the other is closer to the trailer. Also for our tests there were 2 trailers, not 1

    • @WalmartRich
      @WalmartRich  Рік тому

      They do the test slightly different since I went through.
      I agree a real truck or real model would have been better.
      This video was meant to be an example not so much a how to video since Walmart limits what I can do to a point.
