- This was so much fun. Thank you to my patrons for picking this, I had no idea this band existed and wow, my socks were blown off by that guitar! It almost felt like it belonged to a different song/band, it was so proggy. I loved it. It was almost Paul Waggoner-esque and I am always here for that. What next?

Bards Song + Valhalla from Wacken 2016 is absolute legendary
Glad you enjoyed it. You saw the vocalist, Hansi Kursch, when you reacted to "The Day the World Breaks Down" and the lead guitarist is Andre Olbrich. Although generally considered a power metal band, BG is really more cross genre than that with a lot of prog and symphonic elements in their music since 2005. Their music used themes of epic tales, legends, myths, fantasy, with a lot from J. R. R. Tolkien. This song was about the Salem witch trials. In addition to "The Bards Song" their 14 minute epic "And Then Their Was Silence" is a good choice. And for a more prog feel, try "Wheel of Time." Great reaction, keep rocking.

The band that defined Power Metal in the early 90s starting initially more as a Speed Metal band. But they did venture into Prog Metal quite a bit in their later career.
Blind Guardian is one of the best Power Metal Bands of all time. Fantastic live performances. Check out "The Bard's Song and Valhalla" live from Wacken or "Mirror Mirror" official live 2016. And yes, the lead vocalist Hansi Kürsch is one of the best Metal vocalists of all time. 😃 you have already seen him in the Ayreon video.
I agree. I am no power metal fan for sure, but BG was maybe the first metal Band I got into when I was like 14 years old. I remember I had one of those mp3-players that could fit like 20 songs on it. A classmate got me "Otherland" of their 2006 "A twist in the myth" album. I dont listen to power metal much, but if I do, its BG and they will always have a special place in my heart.
Blind Guardian is my all-time favorite power metal band. Hansi layers his voice into an entire choir that give their music a sound like no other… this is a seriously speedy track… if you want to hear an outer space prog track with some incredible vocal work, check out Life Beyond The Spheres
Guardian are the kings of lead guitar. They have always had a speed-metal influenced rhythm section, and on top of that layered vocal and guitar melodies. This song is an interesting mix of their "old" style from the 90s, when they were a speed/power metal band, and their later style, which is very symphonic. If you listen to "Welcome to Dying" and compare that with something like "When Sorrow Sang" or "The Ninth Wave", you can hear both styles.
Prog Power Metal is probably the most accurate description of Blind Guardian.
Like bobsuisse said, their performance of "The Bards Song + Valhalla" live @wacken is kind of a YT metal classic, might generate a lot of views for the channel like Nightwish did. Good thing about it for me is that I enjoy BG much more then Nightwish =)

They were, and are, contemporaries with Iron Maiden. BG is a German power metal band formed in 1984.

Oh man, my favourite band. One of the very first metal bands I ever listened to. As probably a lot of other people said already, you should check out Bard's Song + Valhalla from Wacken. But they have so much good music. Songs like Nightfall, Time Stands Still, Somewhere Far Beyond, Last Candle, Battalions of Fear, Don't Break the Circle, A Past and Future Secret. Jeez I should probably just list their whole discography. And the song you just listened to is from recent new album, which is also very good. I just love them. And I really like your reaction so keep it up, hopefully with some more BG. Oh and you will probably see Hansi few more times if you'll continue with Ayreon. Cheers.

Fun facts: Blind Guardian has been around for a very long time. The band started out under the name "Lucifer's Heritage". The BG lettering was bought from the BeeGees. All 3 guitarists in the band are regularly listed in the top 100 leading guitar magazines (this is unique). The fan base in Germany is enormous and anyone interested in metal can sing along to their songs.
Blind Guardian has been around since the early 90s. I recommend some stuff of their classic era ("Into the Storm", "Mirror Mirror") or their 2000s prog Era ("Otherland", "Fly")

I am still trying to decide if they are a mix of Power Metal and other genres, or if they are THE Power Metal band and everyone else in the genre is just a pale imitation.
Pick about any song and you can't go wrong, but here are a couple suggestions: "Tanelorn: Into the Void", "Mirror, Mirror", and "Another Stranger Me"
