Do you ever watch a video that just looks 'Cinematic'? It's a difficult look to describe, as there are no set rules on a cinematic image.. but today I am going to try my best to break it down.
I used Film Convert pro to colour grade this video (as well as add some grain to the footage). You can use discount code MUMBO at the checkout to get 10% off this software! Head over to this link to pick it up for yourself! www.filmconver...

I never thought i would get into filming from a minecraft youtuber
Sometimes you have to place the blocks in life
lol
Same!!
Visually appealing, educational, and a nice haircut, well done.👌🏻
Right when I was thinking "I want to make my videos look more cinematic"
and then BOOM! Mumbo uploads a video so fresh it only has 52 views.
OMG 52 likes i was too lazy to switch account
That sweet 21:9 aspect ratio can also make a video cinematic as well.
Finally, someone actually rendered the video in 21:9, and not just cropped the image.
Lol😱😱😱😱😱
DMadHacks its Wednesday my dude...
This video is in *2:1!*
@Tomas Bez That's 1'280:1049, or, if you want to approximate while still being *anywhere* close, 128:105. I think I'd rather it be in 64:27 (2.37:1, as cinematographers incorrectly say). Actually, I'd rather it be in 2:1, 16:9, 8:5, 3:2, or, even better, 4:3 (my tablet's one of those standard tablets). And it does *not* make a video cinematic, it's a placebo effect.
You make them cinematic mumbo
You do
I know, don't they look awesome?
Inspirational
I'm really loving these type of short films. Keep doing these. Your studio set up vid really helped me with gettinf mine going. Especially when youre talking about audio!!!! I took your advice and got the Focusrite Scarlet Solo, and WOW!!! what a drastic improvement over just a phantom power supply. That and moving the PC tower away from where I sit so the Mic doesnt pic up the fan noises. All of this has also landed me a small gig doing voice overs for commercial too. THANK YOU!!
I have learned so much from watching these!!! Keep up the amazing work.
This video is also cinematic 😀😀
I'm glad you think so :)
Top stuff Mumbo! Little things i think you missed out...Letter boxing-How it makes your videos look cinematic. Camera Angles, Story line/tone/emotion (you did explain it the episode before). Either way, this is one of your best videos yet! Keep up the great work Mumbo!
I could watch your videos over and over and over..... I mean i watched you video about the importance of a story 3x and i'm still not bored. Mumbo keep it up!
Thank you, that means a lot :)
that cause its got a good story!
Great as always! Appreciate the small filming lesson as always :D
Thank you :)
Coming back after 4 months and its all still AWESOME
That type of video makes me think while watching. It relaxes me as well. Keep up the good work.❤️
Mumbo, the shots in this video looked magnificent! Although I am not really interested much in cinematography, I sort of have an idea of what a professional film should look like. My dad is a professional cameraman over here in the US and I have see his whole process before on turning a video clip into a piece of art. His passion has gone more toward photography now but his photos don't turn out any less amazing than his videos. You have really been outdoing yourself lately and I can't wait to see more and watch as you progress.
what makes a video cinematic? the fact that its shot by mumbo!!! another great video, this is really helpful and i'll definitely use these tips to improve my film making
Wonderful video👍
Meen, i've never seen your vlogs, but they're so relaxing and interesting, great job!!
This is just...
IT IS SO DAMN GOOD
It's funny how 'professional' TV shows and movies spend all this money on lighting and cameras yet I don't consider it 'cinematic' (and the video explains why)
There is no way to express the amount of support I have for you. May you be blessed throughout your career.
What makes something cinematic is a tough one. You did a good job of trying to explain it. And yeah, lighting is so important. To take a really strident example, look at film noir, where lighting is central to the mood and feel of the whole film, where it can tell you about a character, build suspense, etc. So it's not just about a "look" but ties into so much more. I love watching your progression through this journey you are on. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I felt that this video had an actual plot instead of just shooting a scene at the park or something of that nature. Some of your other videos, while having amazing shots, were boring and it felt like there was soooo many other things to do other than watch a video about some guy testing a drone. These past few videos have been great. They are captivating and interesting and i love the style of telling a story in the background. Keep it up Mumbo!
Easy. It's cinematic when Mumbo makes the video.
The quality of your videos is incredible. It really shows the work and dedication you're putting in each video. Thanks for bringing such content on both channels!
Your films get better everytime... Keep doing this!!!!!!!
Personally I don’t film videos or really take a lot of interest in cinematography but I did find this video really intriguing and it shows how much work you and other cinematographers put into your work and videos I now have much more respect for you all .
Most definitely depth of field, lighting, good low light performance, and black bars. Now that's cinematic.
I really like how u don’t post on this channel every day like u do on the Minecraft channel. It shows that u really spend ur time on these. Great video!
I do theatre lighting, but a lot of the same principals apply.
Keep up the good work :D
Wow, this is so sinilar to what I was taught in digital arts (Photoshop class). Manipulating light and light sources is a big part of photo editing and is really important in making surreal pieces look cohesive.
These videos are just amazing... you are truly going to do great things in the future with your filming I’m calling it now 💙
These videos really are looking amazing now. I'm never disappointed.
God damn. You are very talented! You can make boring old England look... absolutely gorgeous!
K0rniMann I’m sorry but did you just say boring old England?
Try the U.S.
You deserve an incredible amount of views, the astonishing quality of these videos is completely overwhelming, good on you mate.
Wow! I’ve been looking forward to another video on the filming channel. It’s amazing what results you can get if you put your mind to it. Well done Mumbo, best yet!
Keep it up Mumbo. Your work is truly incredible!
Mumbo: What makes a video cinematic?
Me: W I D E S C R E E N
Mumbo, you are one of the few people to inspired me to learn photography and how cameras work and everything like that. Your videos are awesome. Keep up the good work.
Started watching your filming Channel and now i watch minecraft and filming!!!
Mumbo Mumbo. You're too brilliant. I love this journey that you're bringing us on while you learn more and more about filming. Please, keep it up.
You really have done an awesome job in filming those stock footage in the park ! you've became a lot better since your first vlog
Beautiful video!! And not to forget 21:9 haha
Wind, earth, water, fire, LED lights. These are the elements that make mumbo's vlogs look so good.
Why am i getting a vibe of mumbo stoping the minecraft channel and start work for movie industries
Gran Torintino He does both
I'm not stopping the Minecraft channel anytime soon! :D
Mumbo Vlogs That’s great Mumbo!
Great video! Very informative and great footage! Love the second channel!
You are so right here Mumbo. I did some still photography and an image can change so dramatically if you put some time and effort in getting the light correct. Still waiting for those RED videos though. Love these videos Mumbo.
Also, who disliked this? It's a really beautiful video that shows what can be done with knowing what to do. Like you said, you don't need a fancy 4K camera that can create images almost as stunning as profesional movie cameras, you just need an idea, and a camera to spark it.
Your films just keep getting better!
Such a wonderful video, love it!
This is where I belong....
I get an ache in my heart when I see the clips you're putting together and it inspires me to go out and do the same...
Maybe in a couple years, I'll be able to make something great.
Thank you for what you do and keep videos like this coming.
They're super informative and very simple for people who don't have a ton of experience in the field of Videography.

Thanks for doing this one. It took me a couple of years just to come "close" to mastering lighting, especially three point lighting. The hardest bit for me is, I'm legally blind. when I setup for a shoot in studio, I'm constantly having to run back and forth between set and camera, to check sample footage, or shots, to see if I've got it right. It's bloody hard. Thanks, and keep up the great works!
I like to give feedback to these type of videos. Usually by telling you how good something looked, or if there was something you could improve. I'm not good myself at making cinematic videos, but sometimes, people watching sees things that the creator doesn't. This time, I couldn't find anything that could go with some improvement. I mean, nothing is perfect, but at the same time, perfect is relative to the people watching, and to the purpose of the video. In my opinion, this was as perfect as it ever has to be. I love your work. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to watch it. :)
Hey up nice to see another vid mumbo also I can’t express how much we love the effort you put into these videos
Wow all I can say is wow. I don’t even shoot videos but the way you make this films are so interesting and beautiful
That small cinematic project looked fantastic! More please!
1:26 that picture in the lower left hand corner of you and vicky is soo cuuute
Helpful and fantastic video
Great video! Glad that you showed some clips from abandon visuals, they are an extremely underrated channel! :)
I really like this way of giving advice that your doing Keep up the great work. (really enjoy the passion you put in all of your video's.)
I observe that most "cinematic" shots are of the serenity of simple doings, such as putting on a shoe and driving down a road. I believe the appreciation of the scene's true nature is what creates the cinematic effect.
Hey mumbo I just want to say that you are a huge inspiration and keep me motivated to make short movies. Thank you😃😃
This is great! It shed some "light" to one of the most important things to consider in both photo and video! Looking forward to more films like this! Really inspiring! :)
Mumbo I love all your channels and all of your videos. I also really love hermit craft.
Hey I used to be a huge fan of your minecraft videos as a kid. I always would rush home looking for a hermit craft. As all things come and go so did minecraft for me and just as with any youtuber. A thought pop into my head I wonder what are they up to? I looked up mumbo jumbo and found the still lasting minecraft content, but under I saw mumbo vlogs. When I saw your first video of your story I had a huge connection. In high school I was enrolled in a journalism program where the teacher kept telling me the same things. She also taught us how to take cinematic shots, but said no matter how much or how little effort you put in some just look good. After watching this consider me subscribed and I hope to see more great stuff from you.
I love your videos on this Channel. I first started watching your mumbo-jumbo channel and heard about this one and ever since I have been watching your videos and becoming very hooked on photography and videography. And if you could please consider making more videos on this channel I would love it and I'm sure others would too!!
Honestlly, Im not intrested in the least about filming and cinamatrografy, but i LOVED this video, its so inspiring!
Great shot of the swan, really impressive.
I’m glad another Mumbo vlog video is out. I was pretty mad today, cause google disabled one of my accounts for some random reason, so I decided to watch this video to help cheer me up, and it worked a treat. I love your videos dude, even if it’s about something technical like this, it’s atmosphere is really emotional and helps keep me happy. Mumbo, you are truly someone special.
Thank you for this video! You just helped me in a big way. I'm just now getting started making videos and I am hooked on buying a bunch of new kit, when Lighting is so extremely important.
one of the most talented vloggers I’ve ever seen; your stress on perfection and creating beautiful scenes reminds me of Casey Neistat.
WoW !!!! The last clip was just wonderful. 😊
I love how your makeing your newest videos they've been amazing
Your videos are so good!
You keep getting better, Mumbo! Keep up the good work!
Great Advice! Photography is all about painting with light and film is just a series of photographs!
Hey Mumbo, I love this style of video you've been making recently, my only comment while flatness is generally bad for cinematicness (is that a word) of a scene some directors like Wes Anderson use to actually improve cinematicness. Thank you for your video :)
Wes Anderson is an objection to many rules in cinematography. The reason his stuff works is because he knows the rules inside out, but chooses to break them!
Scrap the lighting, colorgrading, smooth footage And all that Great stuff,
Black bars is where it at :P
Lovely as always!
Love this, very much excited to watch you get more and more cinematic!
Great video, one again! Could you maybe make a video on how to start with filming? Like what camera's are good for beginners, what software etc.
BOOM another amazing video by the one and only MUMBO!!!!!
So Mumbo vlogs is turning into a video essay channel...... I'm digging it.
You should make more of these breakdown videos. People can learn quite a lot about film making from these. :)
Another great video man❤💪
That's pretty cool! I wish to one day make a career of drone pilot and I'm not sure yet what field would be more interesting. I'm not very artistic, but I am very technical, I have no problem with the flying and I love to learn about photography/videography.
A big thank you for sharing your experience with your viewers. If you are going to do a mini series of videos on the subject, you should make a playlist for later reference. ;)
This is absolutely amazing!
Keep up the amazing work!
light is single handedly the greatest tool among all art forms across the spectrum :)
Black borders on the top & bottom
Boom, cinematic over 9000
Gorgeous, the vid is great as usual. Keep it up!!
I've been interested in photography in a long time and then, it came, Mumbo Vlogs. This channel makes me want to try doing some videography but my DSLR doesn't have video recording feature. gotta wait till i have enough money to buy a new one
if you have a smart phone that's a great place to start! :D
Mumbo Vlogs thanks mumbo but one of my friend said don't record on a camera phone because of phone camera limitation, is that true?
What I love about Mumbo is that he is inspirational and also he is the Vsauce of photography
Mumbo...
Your head is a block
you don’t just play minecraft..
YOU ARE MINECRAFT.
I really like the way u take the video ,showing some clips and taking over it
Good job Mumbo!
No doubt that this video is the best keep up the good work, P.S. I love your hairstyle still
Can you make a video/tutorial about shooting a cinematic video/film with a smartphone, is it possible?
It's possible, however, it's not what you might call "professional." Smartphones can't have the lenses switched, and they have to be held in your hand (unless your phone is boxy, or you have grippers that fit it).
this is actually beautiful
Drone shots is a pretty easy way.
yup
It's also expensive as well.
x Hades Stamps nope
@@user-kx1ck2kp7j For a good quality one, yes. A cheap one won't appear cinematic.
That was absolutely stunning
Great video man it helped me a lot. Btw I am an hobby photographer and i want to get in to video making
Sam here!
I’m also nederlands.
