What Makes a Video "Cinematic"?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- The holy word of UA-cam filmmaking. "Cinematic" gets tossed around more than stds on a college campus. Especially here on UA-cam. For young filmmakers just starting out, this can get confusing. You don't need to shoot "epic B-roll" with a handheld gimbal. You need to learn the fundamentals of what truly makes an image cinematic. This is the first step to be more than your everyday videographer. If you're a beginner, I hope this helps guide you on the right path! Leave a comment with thoughts and questions. Love you.

"Why not focus on A-roll" 👏thank👏you👏
Hahaha glad you appreciated this. Thank you!
"EPIC CINEMATIC B-ROLL"😂
Hahaha I had to get it off my chest. Thanks for watching Morgan
Haha! Love that part!
I got some “Super” Epic Cinematic B Rolls” on my channel. 😄😂
Daniel Schiffer must be crying into his pillow
I literally clicked “subscribe” after he said that :D
When he said “I love you..” at the end .....I felt that...
Hahaha. I meant it too. Thanks for watching man
hahaha Its get me EVERY time!
I KNOOOWWW!!!!
This video was pretty Cinematic....
Hahaha thanks! Appreciate the watch!!!
And it was B-Roll, so great success.
Haha right on point man, youtube is definitely the land of B Roll. How funny when most of those videos actually don't have A roll to start with.. And yes the word cinematic is tossed around way too much. Great video and tips man !!
Hahaha so true man. Thanks for watching as always man appreciate it.
@@DannyGevirtz I was wanting to make a video that puts all those so called "Cinematic B Roll" into shame. Like making a true kind of mockumentary. All they do is neat shots with no story at all. I can't dig that shit anymore.
This man is my new favorite UA-camr now.
Good vid Danny. I think another really important thing that can make the difference between a frame being hit or alright is production design.
Thanks so much! For sure there’s a lot of big ones I just tried to focus hard on what beginners can do right away
What you are mean by this?
I came back to re-visit the past, still learnt something new for the Future. ✊🏾
Great advice.. well stated... and “cinematic” as well! New Sub!
Thanks so much haha!
I created a gaming channel where I edit all of my gameplay to look like cinematic film action sequences hahaha. This video is neat and helps me see things more clearly. Subbed!
TRUTH .... STORY, STORY, STORY. It’s where the vision commences.
It’s true! I use Canon C 100 mark ii for shoot clips about my job and I'm happy!
Love you too
My heart is full. Haha thank you!!
So good!
Thanks so much!!!
Honestly, THIS is the video production content that needs to be viral. THIS deserves views. Theres so many things that are so good & so right about this video. This was an incredibly well thought out piece of content. The attention to detail is amazing. Youre just not a douchy overly excited youtuber, and this is why other youtuber film makers are getting views. Being corny. Youre not corny. And im sorry that corny shit works. Never change man. Do you. This is the quality film maker content youtube needs and viewers deserve
yo man! Thanks so much for this great comment. Haha i try very hard to not be corny. Glad youre onboard here.
In the actual film industry or the world of cinema, "cinematic" is not a thing, it does not exist.
It's a youtube word and fantasy, a videographer visual "language" if we can call it that way.
"Cinematic" is wooshes, speed ramps, transitions, smooth shots and drones.
People don't do that in cinema. Every shot has a meaning and a purpose.
yep I agree with that!
"I love you" followed by a cut to a weird, but oh so important Premiere tip. This channel is magic.
Very cinematic 😄🔥
Hahaha thanks so much Rahul!
I love you too!
A superb, balanced, informative presentation on how to make your video's better. Thanks!
Thank you Peter!!! Glad you liked it man!!!
Today I have discovered you channel and I like very much your content. Subscribed!😉
Thanks so much again man!
I love your videos! Not long ago I just found your channel and I regret that I didn't know about you before.
You inspire.
You teach.
You do it with all your heart.
You are one of the most underrated UA-camr's.
Thank you! Keep up the good work! :)
Ah man this comment made my day. Thanks so much for this. Really truly appreciate it so much.
love it
Appreciate the watch Henry!!!
Really Danny, i LOVE you!!
Don’t forget c-roll 😉 it is most underestimated 😂 good video 💪🏼👏
Lolol. Wouldn’t surprise me if that actually became a thing. Thanks for watching!!!
Apparently I missed this
You're a beast and this video must have taken a good amount of time to produce. Proud to see your SUB count jump!
Haha it def took a hot minute but worth it for comments like this. Thanks so much!!!
Still the best quote of 2020 “Why don’t we focus on A roll?” 💯😂😂
THANK YOU! 99% of videos on UA-cam with "cinematic" in the title aren't actually cinematic, or about how cinematic footage works. My favourite is "Cinematic settings for your camera!", as if changing a few camera settings will give you what cinematographers have practiced for years to achieve. Cinematic footage is about light, composition, movement and framing, not changing settings or throwing on a LUT. Thank you for making this video. Appreciate you!
Absolutely! Thanks so much for watching!
So totally agree with you. I have a video which I consider to be very cinematic and goes against all rules of the so called "Cinematic B Rolls " of youtube. And my Video hasn't got a single blurry image. Well just one but it was an error. lol
Don't forget slow motion. That's in the top 3 for sure.
Fawk buddy, your content is incredible. I am sure you will hit 1 mil and mark my words
haha thanks so much man!
Really funny Intro ! Well presented as well! You got that sub 😜
I rewatched the whole video just because of the awkward face at the end. Loved it ahah
Hahahaha I love it. Thanks for checking it out twice
Buahahahaa! Fell on the floor laughing at that ”EPIC Cinematic B-roll!!” 😂😂😂 Love your videos and they are awesome! Big thanks for making these. They are super inspiring!
Haha ay thanks bro!!!
Definitely gear buy the R5 boom 💥 instant cinematic footage. Canon has you covered 🤣
Lmao! Haha how do I reach these kids
Danny Gevirtz give aways my friend give aways 🤗🤗 but for real I enjoy that you keep it short sweet and entertaining without drawing to out for watch time. It’s nice.
You've got a new sub!!! Love you too ;-) #A-Roll
Amazing!!! Thanks for joining the squad! Appreciate you!
This was sooo good! Nice ideas and valuable content. Finally someone who is not talking about b-broll. I mean you did in a way but.....
Hahaha i just had to get the b roll thing off my chest. Thanks so much for watching man appreciate that!
Hi Danny , what’s your favorite picture profile on the 1dx ? I see you like very soft color grading and I’m wondering if you’re on neutral or if you did a customized one. Tanks for the answer. Keep going 💪💪
Thanks so much! I rarely use it but I have it in neutral with everything pulled all the way down. Doesn’t make a huge difference honestly
Danny Gevirtz yes I see you re more on the c200 but I saw some of your shootings in Scotland, very nice. thanks Danny
This was OP
So to summarize just shoot in 120p for epic cinematic b roll?
lol jk great video Danny this one was funny and informational. Great stuff bro!
Hahaha yeah just slow down legit everything. Haha thanks for watching as always brotha
Exactly follow every youtubers advice but Danny Gevirtz's ones... Then you are welcome to enter the the club of the most common videographers ever. lol
WHY. DIDNT I. DISCOVER YOU. SOONER. Love your videos man🔥
Haha all that matters is that you’re here now and I’m glad you made it. Thanks brotha!
I sincerely don't know why you don't have much more subscribers... great work as usual..
Haha who knows that’s so much man!
ANYONE reading this. You don't need expensive gear or a Full frame camera, trust me. Look at Chris-Eyre Walker page and the documentary he did with a Micro 4/3 camera. Look at the commercial I just did on my page from Edible Arrangements with a crop sensor camera. Achieving a cinematic look involves more understanding of framing, lighting and movement more than anything else. Thanks Mr. Gervirtz for making this video.
Absolutely man! Thanks for watching and giving your thoughts!
Man you are the best thing I've discover recently. You give great advice, have really well produce videos and overall seems like a great dude I'd love to grab a beer with. Keep up, your work is great!
Dude! Thanks so much. Such a great comment. I appreciate this brotha.
So good video. Show us your lighting and coloring proces. Look is Soo EPIC and CINEMATIC. Love it
Thanks Emil!
This video is worth it just for the back light tip. I never really noticed it before, but now I can't unsee it.
Hahaha you’ll never be able to unsee it for the rest of your life
Best a-roll shot ever.
Hahaha thank you thank you!
@@DannyGevirtz Sick video, just discovered you. I'm subscribed!
So glad you found it! Happy to have you here!!!
@@DannyGevirtz It's hard to believe you have only been filmmaking for 3 years! When did you start your channel?
your dog is the raddest haha
Hahaha dude you’ll meet her one day. She’s a legend
So I’m watching this video on a smart tv and can’t comment. 2mins in the video, I had to stop, get my iPad and comment on how GOOD YOUR CONTENT is!!! Seriously, WTF. you sir deserve more followers and likes. SERIOUSLY.
Hahaha yooo! Appreciate that brotha. That effort to get to the comment section is all I can ask for from you. You’re the man
I'm starting to think a lot of these guys don't know what B-Roll is. Just cause it's quickly cut and panning all over the place doesn't make it B-roll, it just means it doesn't have a story!
Hahaha so true Samir. It always feel like I’m watching someone’s insecurities on screen haha
So are you trying to tell me that filming in 120fps doesn't make my videos cinematic? just kidding, this was refreshing to watch and hear.
Lol! Thats the only way! Just shoot everything mindlessly at 120. Thanks for watching dude!
This is so on point, and it's the same people who throws on their blackbars.png (cause that's what Hollywood does), to get that anamorphic look...
For heavens sake, edit in true 2:39:1 ratio and stop ruining the experience for people who actually has screens with that ratio 😂
Thanks so much dude!
The talent that you are working with, haha
Such incredible work man! I love the genuine advice that really pushes people past gear and trendy techniques and you're work really does all that. It brings that classy and aesthetic look that many of us are going for :) Keep it up!
That’s amazing to hear dude! Thanks so much man. Really appreciate it !
educational + funny + videos = this channel, good lesion here man, thank you.
Hahah I’m tryin man. Appreciate it a ton dude!
Thank you soo much for this video. Love it
For sure! Thanks for watching man!
The dog 🐶 😊😊😊😊😊
Haha she’s my baby
This is awesome, thanks for the honest 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
For sure! Glad you liked it. Thanks so much!
No bullshit! !! Just want to say thanks! Keep waiting for your beer advertising teaching! !!
Thank you man! Lol there’s not much to teach on that video. I guess the super 8 look
@@DannyGevirtz What I want to know most is the rhythm of this type of advertising and the choice of lens angle. If you do n’t mind, I really want to listen to your explanations and learn from you. I have read your advertisement many times. You are my teacher! thanks again!!!!
you are just great man! Love your content and your personality!
I appreciate that a ton! Thank you!
Wow! I don't know what I could else say! I watched this Video for the 6th time😂
hahaha thats amazing. im happy you can endure my face for that long. thank you!
Many many thanks Danny sir. Is this very bad thing to use b roll?
Thanks man! Haha b roll is b roll. You use it as filler footage. There’s a weird movement amongst UA-cam filmmakers to put all your efforts into b roll when a roll is what carries your story.
Thank you, you really inspire me so much. :’)
amazing thanks Ron!
Dude love hte vids, keep up the good work bro!
Thank you so much man! Appreciate that!
Dude, this video is short, straightfoward and with valuable content!
Just watched a couple of your videos and you gotta be one the most carismathic filmmakers on youtube.
Also, very talented for what I've seen in a few of your clips and your reel. +1 sub
Very glad to have you joining the crew here Rafael! Thanks so much dude!
Dude, this was super helpful and insightful 👌🏽
Absolutely dude thanks for watching man!
Nice man!!! Do you used a hazer for this video? Well, this is cinematic! Thumbs Up!
Thanks so much Martin! Lol I did haze it up which was a bad idea honestly
@@DannyGevirtz Well I liked it! I only noticed it because the smoke at the end of the video has become less. Keep up your good work man!
Last tip at the end! Adjust quality of playback....! Perfect. I needed that!
Can we just talk about that light coming through the window? Epically cinematic a-roll ;) !!!
I made a similar video 😃 and "epic cinematic b-roll" is the epitome of cinematic lol
Hahaha super slow motion b roll. I’ll have to check out your vid. Thanks for watching dude
@@DannyGevirtz Always! I'm trying to get to your level 🙌🏽
Cinematic tips include creating depth, backlighting, and color contrast.
So refreshing to watch a video with genuinely useful information and not just trying to get everyone to buy new gear! Thanks for sharing Danny
That’s so awesome to hear dude. Appreciate you watching. Thank you!
Great video dude 👍🏽
Armando! Thanks so much dude. Always a pleasure having you watch anything I make man.
Danny Gevirtz 👊🏽
I'm leaving a comment just to show you that I love watching your videos
I love that you comment just because. You’re the best man thank you!
I fcking love your videos!!!!
I fcking love you!!! Appreciate you man
On UA-cam, 'Epic b-roll' usually means grown men skateboarding in slow motion.
Man I love the way you talk. Gets me everytime!😍
Hahahaha thanks man. That’s a really nice compliment
Cinematic on youtube has a totally different meaning than what cinematic means for movies Wheras in movies the word cinematic doesn't even exist. Because the movie is Cinema. Kinda weird huh. But yeah. Would nice of some youtubers to get their head out of their asses for once in a while.
Love you content. But you could have also said used the not always the most blurriest backgrounds makes a good shot. Because some people believe the blurrier something is, the more "Cinematic" it is.
Really great video man, really needed to have this topic focused on.
So glad you liked it! Thank you man!!!
The quality Danny.... Amazing. We see the progress!!!
Thank you so much! Appreciate that. Put a lot into this one.

So well said and epic video!
Glad you agree dude! Thank you!!!
You're awesome as always!!
Ayyy! Thank you so much! Means a ton to me that you watched!
I'm 17, and instead of purchasing a c200 i'm taking the advise to rent one... but I also need to rent lenses, what do you reccomend for audio work? I have 5+ YRS of editing on premiere pro and i know how to edit and etc but who do i go to or where do i go to in order to find a microphone expert. I want my film to actually have good audio, I wanna order a DCP so i can rent out this one movie room in emagine theaters to take my family. But, I wanna make sure the sound is good microphone wise and etc.... btw craigslist sucks, couldn't find any there
Oh my gosh! You need more subscribers!! Just found you and I’m excited to keep learning!
Thanks so much!!! Glad you found me haha
finally someone speaking about cinematography 🎥🎬😁
100% agree with you
Thank you for sharing👍
For sure! Happy we’re on the same page! Thanks so much!!!
Please make a more in-depth video on backlighting, handling exposures Danny. I would really upon appreciate that!
Maybe one day!!!
I have to walk over and pet my dog every time I see yours
I've recently discovered your channel and It is very very interesting and helpful!!! Thank you so much for that!! I have a question; isn't that the RYB color wheel that you showed us? shouldn't it be the RGB which is for lighting? because the complementary colors would be different in that case. I always get lost anw since both color wheels are connected to each other in cinematography since it's a mix of lighting and production design. ⚡️💪🏻
Thanks dude and yes probably haha!
Great video Danny!
Thanks so much Colin!!! Appreciate it dude
It's only classed as cinematic if the shots involve a sequence of making coffee... At least that's what UA-cam seems to think...
Hahahaha I know man but to each is own. Appreciate the watch
i love you too
Hahaha thanks for sticking around until the end
