From a UK trucker.....first Yank truck I ever Saw was one of these....over here in the UK....at the UK truck builders plant in Leyland Lancashire.....I think they brought it over to pinch ideas off it....would have been mid 70s. I was blown away by it.....our UK trucks are so boring in comparison. Then the US TV Prog Movin on hit our screens shortly after and I saw my first KW......WOW! Nick from the UK.
Bringing back memories Wiley. Drove the old cabovers many miles they were warm in the summer and cold in the winter. That license plate bracket was used for tractor plates and back then we had to register them each individual state some had there own plates where some had their own sticker you had to put on the drivers door. Later on they came up with the IFTA program which got rid of the extra plates and stickers. It simplified the registration process. Just a little history in our past Keep the videos coming! I'm sitting here retired from the trucking industry after 50 years and love watching you try to revive the old trucks from the past 👍👍❤
Thank you for sharing that. We logged back in the day and bought any old used truck but never hauled out of state. I think after you sharing that i can picture seeing the tags on the bracket
It's amazing to see an old cabover, I'm a millennial. I was born two years after that truck was manufactured. I love seeing old trucks like that. It's a time capsule, amazing to see it still runs. 👍👍👍
The 86 in the model number is an 86" bunk.1980 was the first year that Freightliner parted ways with White Motor Corp. When the heads start leaking there is usually a liner jumping, those old 855's were notorious for it. Sometimes you can pull the one head of three and shim the liner but it probably needs rebuilt.
I drove one just like it for a living. I’m 70 now and still living. Today is 9/29 23. Just placed 2024 license tag sticker on my 2011 Silverado I’d love to have that ole Freight shaker. Shiny 290 9 speed transmission. 355 rear end 22.5 drive tires
My first Freightliner was a FLT 9664 with a 3408 cat with a retarder and 13 spd. The cab was a slant back design to provide extra reefer clearance I would imagine but my truck had sufficient wheelbase Loved that old cabover except the Armstrong steering in tight quarters. Nice old cab o. That one. Should you ever come across a Freightliner Powerliner I’m all in.
Wily when I started out as a mechanic all I had in y tool box was a pair of plyers. butter knife and heavy rock.I finally added to my collection some duck tape and bailing wire.
I use to see cabovers here in the USA🇺🇸 all the time back in the 1980s & down. Nowadays the only cabovers I see often are fire trucks, garbage trucks, yard trucks, crane trucks, concrete pumper trucks, front discharge cement trucks, & non semi trucks like those little Isuzus.
Loving the channel Wiley I think you're a great person the things you do to get old trucks running are amazing and give these trucks tractors or whatever heavy equipment a second chance. As they say the old ones are the best keep it up good buddy 👍
White wasn't "kicked out" of the business. They only had a dealership and distribution contract with Freightliner Corp. They never had any part of the business. For many years, Freightliner was a wholly-owned subsidiary of the common carrier Consolidated Freightways. Those rodents were into some heavy duty beer consumption.
Thanks for another great video Wiley and Jacob. It was interesting that is for sure. Looks like a parts truck to me. Terrible shape is my opinion. Been sitting too long I guess. Probably got good parts yet. Make good parts for someone. Thanks Wiley for at least looking into what it was and condition and such. Take care and be safe. The Iowa Farm Boy
I'm catching myself itching from imaginary ticks that I could swear I felt crawling all over me! Pretty sweet old truck there. A touch cruddy indoors, but still... Worth cleaning up, throwing a starter in, & a few wheels on, if one were so inclined.
my father drove in the early 80's I remember the company he worked for had him drive one like that it was new back then. it was a dark sparkle blue. this is kinda funny, the guy he worked for, his name was Dick Ball. Dick chewed tobacco and me being 5 abouts was always curious about it because he made it seem taste. I was asking him about what it tasted like, and a million other questions and he say here boy have some. of course, my dad let him give it to me. I'll never forget that experience.
The truck look like it was beautiful inside at one time it's just a shame to see him like that but the truck definitely looks very restorable or if anything just cleaned up
Great video, Wiley and Jacob. That cab over looked like was in decent shape for the year model. Really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!!
Wiley, Way back in the day running OTR you’d have to run certain several state tags, Your trailer tag always was on the trailer, Like watching your videos from central Florida!

Comon Wylie, how many times have I told you and Hanky, that when you see that Detroit color, to pop off a valve cover and put a set of vise grips on the fuel rail. It’ll probably take another time or two for you to remember to do that. You’re lucky she didn’t run away badly. Well at least you can prove that most any motor in a truck cab y’all can get a running and back to work for the owner.
I sure am glad that you found each other, Jacob and yourself are a great team. I forgot something Wily.... do you ever see old cars and pickups on these properties that have a possible chance of fixing up?
