Your Archcrystal thread inspired me to dive in and actually play Dwarf Fortress years ago. (Well, that and Kruggsmash, but yours is the forum story that really caught my attention.)
This is a Dwarven Saga. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. This story has many similarities with the book: "One Hundred Years of Solitude: Gabriel Garcia Marquez". Of course I liked the dwarf version more. Great video and keep up the good work.
I remember reading this story years and years ago, it was the thing that initially got me to try out DF (though I have vague memories of playing an earlier version when I was younger). This fantastic tale of dwarves conquering Hell and rising to claim the heavens was downright inspiring.
Dude, I've been wishing for a video exactly like this since the first bits of trivia i read about Archcrystal! Watched the whole thing in one go, really hope this blows up
I finished reading it a few years ago, and I keep looking back at the reddit post where I saw it every now and then, hoping that somehow there's a new update.
Great video! Glad to see you delving more into the narrative side of Dwarf Fortress! If you ever decide to add more illustrations to these stories I’m sure that’ll probably put a smile on Kruggsmash’s face too.
About a quarter of the way through and it has been a very fun read. Whether it's worth it to you or not I really enjoyed it. Your content has helped me become competent at dwarf fortress and I'm loving it so
Well I'm hooked. Seriously, well read and edited! Absolutely mind blowing. Though I've seen, read, and heard tales from this game before they never cease to impress me with the details. Story generator+ and Story Narrator++
I love how he's talking about pre .50 versions of the game like they were a thousand years ago when they were only less than a year lol I mean, it makes sense, considering how many people have started playing since .50, but it's still funny.
@@BlindiRL I was more so talking about the fact it was text based. I get mentioning that it was 40.02, a lot has changed since then. Just found it funny idk
I can only dream of making a fortress half as epic and legendary as this one. Thank you, Blind, for producing this video. I can only begin to imagine the enormous quantities of effort and time that this project took. I appreciate and admire you for completing it. Thank you, Sethatos, for writing and sharing this epic legend with us and allowing Blind to use it for this production.
Thank you for your incredible efforts! Watching this a year later, I’m once again swept up in the eternal wonder of Dwarf Fortress, marvelling at its intricate majesty. Though I’ve often struggled to fully commit to this grand game, your passion reignites my excitement and determination. Just as I was once captivated by the brilliance of DasTactic and KRUGGSMASH, I now find myself enthralled by your dedication and skill. Your continued journey in the footsteps of these legendary tutors keeps the flame of my fascination with Dwarf Fortress burning brightly. Thank you for keeping this magical world alive in my heart!. May you continue to inspire me.
What will become of Fath!? I need to know, I can imagine, but I want the history of Fath and his choise to break his promise. Also those "sisters in arms" were truly inspiring. Epic tale and narratived with excellence. This was a tale I didn't know it existed and now I want more. Good job Blind and also Sethatos for providing the tale ❤
Ha, only now after rewatching do I remember how confused I was by the character of Id (the dwarf that taught them how to make paper). I understood the Armok angle of her story, but it took a long while after originally reading this on the forums that she's supoosed to be an Outsider Adventurer. Granted I was new to DF at the time (relatively speaking, I actually first played it in 2014, but only actually started playing regularly in 2018, or round about. Now I haven't played it for about a year, only made mods occasionally).
thoroughly enjoyed this video Blind. would love to see more of this kind of content, I know this is unlikely as it took a hell of a long time to put together.
Hey if you're interested in a cool playthrough could you do a achievements bingo (make up 24 achievements for a bingo map and when you get bingo you win)
Example achievements would be Tame a dragon Breed unicorns Make 25 artifacts Have 2 titans fight Have 10 vampires 100 year fort Become mountain home/ in less then 75 years

Woo! My Dwarf Fortress Fan Fiction is in video form. :)
Thanks for doing this Blind!
Guess I better finish that ending now....
Finish it and I'll make a follow up!

I fully read ArchCrystal in PDF format recently but thanks for sharing the great story with wider audience as wideo.

I passed this off to sethatos.
Hey thanks for the kind words! I’m happy people enjoyed it and got others like yourself interested in DF.

It needs a LOT of sharing to blow up. But who knows. Currently its underperforming :/
Oh man, I followed along with Archcrystal on the forums. One of the most epic fortresses ever. Thanks for sharing this!
:D
I finished reading it a few years ago, and I keep looking back at the reddit post where I saw it every now and then, hoping that somehow there's a new update.
I think this video might make that happen.
@@BlindiRL I hope that happens. This is fortress legendary.
My favourite forum story from the depths! Thank You!
This is amazing. Thank you for making this an audio version.

Lil bit.

I can't draw and can't afford to commission that amount of art. So highly unlikely.
@@BlindiRLUnderstandable, but who knows? Maybe one day.
Nice, heard that name in the past but never stumbled over that story. Thanks! Enjoyed it a lot. ❤
This fort inspired me to try doing the same, and it went pretty well, but not nearly a fraction of the scale Sethatos did lol

What a grand and fantastic tale of dwarven persistence 😀
Niiiiiiiiiiice, will watch once and listen repeatedly
The length of the video certainly shows the effort of it.
Wow! I can’t believe I put off giving this a listen for so long. Fantastic job narrating, I really enjoyed it ❤
Thanks for listening
I love history and I love dwarf fortress. Dwarf fortress history is the best of both worlds! Thanks for all the work blind!

Going though a single minute of your video made me feel the passion that you put into this, looking forwad to watching the whole thing
What a timely recommendation UA-cam, right before I decide to build a fortified stairway to hell or lose my already fps dying fortress in the attempt.
This is excellent!
This was like listening to an audiobook, absolutely loved this and found myself left wanting more, like the cliffhanger at the end of a good book

Is there a reason you picked the story of Archcrystal or was it just one of the best dramatized recordings of a fortress someone’s put to text?
Spoiler warning should have been raised in the first minute.
Anyways... that was an idea I was going to do next after dancing with semi liquids =)
I mean. idk if I agree with that as there is no mechanical explanation + its an older version of the game that is rather different.

Hey Blind will you ever do boatmurder?
Yes
Im little confuse about dialogues, on what you base the dialog?
I'm reading a the writing from the original author, like an audio book.
Could you do the one for Qisat Dur, the martial arts for dwarves?
You mean wrestling? I've never seen Qisat dur used as a term before but I could do one on wrestling/ martial trance.
I know this was a missive project for you, but could you do a similar distilling of story for your fortress of Longdeath?
Unlikely.
