    I hope you see this on an older video. You are an absolute gem on youtube. I have watched so many of your videos, learned and applied what you have taught me, and had so much fun improving my abilities. Of course youtube is full of videos but I keep coming back to see what your doing and always come away with something I can apply to my turning. I often feel guilty that I owe you something in return for what I have learned. This hobby has been so much fun!

    I have been turning for about two years. Lately I have been discouraged because I don’t feel that I am as far along as I should be. But after watching your video I am encouraged once again. Thank you so much for your videos. Please keep them coming. You are an inspiration.

      It is hard not to compare yourself to others and where they are. I obsessed over how "bad" i was compared to others. I had to learn to have joy in the process... we are ALWAYS in the learning process. Someone will ALWAYS be better. Just strive to be better than YOU were yesterday. One step at a time.Your best is good enough!! You WILL get better and better everyday. God bless and keep turning!

    Beautiful! A nice, simple shape which shows off the beauty of the wood to its max. I also use coffee grounds in cracks, but as I’m tight I use them first, then dry them for the workshop! They give a lovely smooth finish when they’re soaked in CA and turned...

    Very pretty wood and nice form. Like you I get too aggressive in my turning some times and don't enjoy the process. What happens some time is I ruin a turning and get a good scare which makes me take my time for a while again and I find it more fun that way.

    Enjoyed the talk as much as the turn. You get green cherry and mesquite- that wood is so expensive here that it is not used a lot. We get ash and maple, which are beautiful in their own way. I think the learning to be patient and work on finishing cuts is very common- You could have been talking about me

      lol Thanks, Scott! Thank you for sharing that with me. Sometimes I feel like the only one that struggles with those things. I am happy and not happy to know I am not the only one. lol
      I am blessed with friends an family that keep me in mind when it comes to wood. I never knew half these trees even grew in our area until I started turning. I thought all we had in Florida was Oak, Pine and Palm trees lol amazing how much you learn turning ;)

    That is such a gorgeous bowl. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the encouragement you give to new turners like myself. I've been turning for 3 months and haven't tried a bowl yet. I'm still struggling with fear of catches since getting a couple of whoppers. I'll get there though in time. Thanks again.

    • @KimTippin
      @KimTippin  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you, Terry! Yes you will get there! When I first got my bowl gouge, I got a catch 1st thing. i put it away for 2 weeks before I would pick it up again. I was determined to figure it out. I watched how other turners held their gouge and watched what part was doing the cutting. After hours of watching, i picked up that gouge and went back at it. The catches were less and less as I learned what I was doing to get them and as I "felt" the tool cut. keep on going and you will get this!! YOU CAN DO IT! :)

    Thank you so much for your encouraging words for us newbies, Kim! I fell in love with the grain of the mesquite - I love that contrast! I don't know that I will ever work up as much 'authority' as you, but I am closer to it today than I was yesterday! God bless you, Kim!

    Another great video. Maybe you could have a video on how you sharpen negative rake scrapers, etc.

    • @KimTippin
      @KimTippin  4 роки тому

      Maybe one day soon I will do that. I have negative rake already so buying a new one to show how it is done, start to finish, may have to wait till I need a new scraper.

    Hi Kim, he did a wonderful job is beautiful, but don't take wood for granted. Remember, they were living things one time and we should appreciate the fact that. We kill a lot of trees. A lot more than we should. This world needs those things. We need those things for things other than we've been growing, but we need them growing too. So it's not just would hun. I'm sorry don't mean to. God gave us those for more than just growing I know but we should appreciate the fact that they're living things to Anyways Please take care and God bless. Can't wait to see her next project.

      On the worm screw scrape some candle wax on the screw before you screw it on. It will be easier to get off. Great job 👍

    I learned how to turn bowls from youtube also. Mesquite is a great hard wood to work with , and it finishes out nicely.
