Green Sycamore Hollow Form With burnt on Octopus

- Drying wood with a heat gun can be dangerous as with anything involving wood turning. Please wear proper face protection. Cracks can develop and could possibly cause splits resulting in pieces flying off of the lathe. This had never happen to me but could happen.
This method is a faster way to dry green turned wood but there are cons with this method. Like, warping and cracking. Results may vary depending on thickness of piece and type of wood.
As for all my videos this is just my journey in wood turning and experimentation along the way. It may not be right, may not be perfect, may not be what YOU would do, But this is where I am and I love learning as I go. If you would like to share some ideas or kind instruction, please comment below. I love to hear all the ideas you all have ! Lets get creative and inspire one another, Mostly with kindness and then sharing our talents.

In a world where we are so self centered and only care about what it will get you from whatever. It was very refreshing to hear you not take credit for the picture. Good job💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Kim: Just found your video. Very nice. It is so rewarding to take something [old piece of wood] and make something new and beautiful. Let Him guide your steps and your hands to create beauty.
fantastic turn. loved the octopus as well. thanks for sharing your talents with us so we can hone our skills threw your experiences.
Lovely. Nice touch with the burning.
Thank you 😊
This is beauty in the purest form. Don't be too concerned that it's form is not perfectly symmetrical. Art is a reflection of life. Imperfection is what brings life to art.
I agree!! Thank you , Stacey!
You are ridiculously talented.
Thank you, Jerry!! I wish I could trade some of my tallents for other talents, but I will do the best with what the Lord has blessed me with :)
Beautiful job. TYVM for sharing it with us.
Thank you Alice !! You're welcome!
Came out wonderful.
Thank you , Philip!

Just stopped in to say hello. May I add one comment? It takes a very artistic eye to shade in a sketch so that it takes on a three dimensional look. Thou art a true artist m'Lady, let no one tell thee otherwise.

I really enjoyed your video and your “learning” voyage. I loved your “turn and learn”. Isn’t that the truth!
I found you narrative video quite helpful in what you were experiencing and your decision/thought processes. Great music and narrative balance.
You taught me something new using a heat gun. Not seen that before but made sense. Turn watch UA-cam and learn.
I’ll be looking for more of your videos. Thanks again for taking the time and effort to make and share it!
Thank you so much for watching, Dave!! I am so glad you find it helpful in your own journey ❤️

Good morning from Michigan. I’m a new subscriber, old machine shop “lathe guy”.
Working with metal all my life, I think making the transition to wood will be weird... but, I’m thinking I need to learn this craft for my retirement years. What caught my attention most was the wood burning.... fabulous work Ma’am. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you so much for watching 🤗
KIM....I'm impressed ,You did an awesome job there.Love watching your videos.
Thank you Kem!!
Beautiful work!
Thank you , B well!
Hey Kim. Great video. It turned out really nice. I did a Greek urn, copper leaf and patina with a kraken painted on. One more thing. Don't apologize for the length of your videos. The viewer can always fast forward. I thought it was just right.
Thank you much Roger!!
Your urn sounds beautiful!

Thank you!!
Love the video and the burning.
Thank you Graham!
Just WOW!
❤Thank you!
This is the first time that I am watching one of your videos. Thank you! It is such an inspiration to see you turning out such beautiful pieces.
Beautiful job Kim. One would never know this was your first shot at wood burning, very impressive! Bruce in ON Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you so much, Bruce 🤗🤗
That is an awesome piece really enjoyed watching you make this one!!
I like the shape of the bowl and the burnt drawing. You’re the first woman I’ve found who turns wood. I’ve recently become enamoured with wood turning. It’s a beautiful art form. I’ve been scouring You Tube finding info out and watching techniques. Even though I’m female I love everything about woodworking.
Check out Ashley Harwood
Thank you Chanda!! Yes, Ashley Hardwood is an awesome turner and one to be admired! Wood turning is my favorite !! :)
Very Cool!

Gorgeous work. Good pyrography
Thank you Tyler!
WOW! Great lok to that bowl I like the shape, and the Octopus looks fantastic. Well done.
Thank you!
You must be in tangent with the cutting edge , you must not waste too much time in your response to be the driving forces to show the significant difference . The beauty of my approach is I can find the appreciation but I can't find the time . I must be passionate and bold to overcome . Thank you for
guiding us to identify the difference . A bold creation .
Hi Kim. That was fascinating - always something new to learn from your videos!
Thank you so much Tim!
Wicked job looks great 👍
Thank you!!
Perfect that’s why I watch you cuz I’m TURNING & learnen

Thank you very much!
wonderfull work
Thank you!!!
Love it. Burning really worked well but your now giving me ideas and I've enough to do just now. ;)
lol I know the feeling!!
You know what? You're one hell of a talented lady and I totally agree with on one hell of a man Cap'n Eddy. He'a been one of my mentors for the last few years of turning. I like what you do and the bowl turned out extremely nice. I have tried the pyrotechnics a couple of time but didn't stay with it due to far too many other projects. Keep smiling.
Thank you , Terry!
Cap'n Eddy is the man! I love his personality too!! I am not related to him but I think I should be .. lol..
If I were the artist I would be proud to see what you accomplished to really bring out the quality of my art. Great job.
Aww Thank you!@!!
This video just popped up on my recommended list, and I am so glad I stopped to watch it! I subscribed immediately! You are so very talented, refreshing to watch a woman turning wood for once! Absolutely stunning work, going to go binge watch the rest of your videos! Thank you so much for sharing your gift!
Thank you so much Stephanie!! I am humbled! 🤗🤗
Love the way that bowl moves. And since I've read all the comments, I think I'm the first to say, "Release the Kraken".
Mark
LOL that's my very thought when making it!
Very nice thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching !
That's pretty nifty. Nice work.
Thank you Ian!
Really great, Kim. I love the way you were able to wrap the image around to the top.

After reading the comments I just don't know what else to say. Loved watching!
Thank you Billy! I am overwhelmed too! Amazing people with such kind words, ideas and wonderful support!
Length is good. We get to see more of the journey that way. Your shading was stunning, it really bought the form to life.
Thank you 🤗🤗
I love your way of thinking, practice makes you better. Kim I am amazed every time I watch your videos you are so talented and don't let anyone tell you that you aren't. Also thanks for the tip on tinting resin it has saved me lots of money I would have never known that eyeshadow was the same thing as mica powder. Burning always takes a long time depending on what you are doing.
Thank you Maria! Such kind words and encouragement! I really appreciate that! 🤗
Burning is time consuming but enjoyable because my hands are busy :)
I love it enjoyed every minute. I am trying to soak up your knowledge in hopes it will help me on my projects. Thank you as always!
Thank you for watching, Kevin!
Very nice project: Turning and burning; form and color. You can get the feeling of movement in the octopus with the overall form and the color is warm and relaxing. Very nice results Kim, bravo.👏👏
Thank you so much!!
👍,, thanks for sharing
very nice work
Thank you Craig!
Way cool Kim! Trick I've learned to transfer images from paper to curved surfaces: Wad up the paper pattern (like you're going to throw it away), then straighten/flatten it back out and the multiple facets will bend/curve like a glove on the curved surface!
Awesome idea!! Thank you!
I just watched your video and you have some great talent in burning, very precise with your tool.
Thank you!!
Ma'am you have some seriously cool skills. Awesome job maybe one day I'll get there (lol)
