I love the way you keep finding new things to show us. The color and grain pattern of this wood is fabulous. It really lights up when you put the finish on.
I think it would be fun to do a mystery turn. The thumbnail being just a couple items, like a block of wood, bottle of resin and something like an object that might be associated with the final project… then we can watch to see what you come up with 🎉🎉
Designer epoxy That is a huge piece of mesquite! I have turned it but it was only bottle stopper sized and even that was iffy due to all the hair cracks that went with the grain without CA glue it would have gone in the barbeque. It was like turning a rock. But it was beautiful. The bowl was also beautiful. A nice inlay. Great video. I do like the way you throw in the safety tips. It is a bit of a shock to find yourself attached to a bowl. Been down that path before. Also reminding folks about a respirator. I watched another channel and the fellow wore a face mask which save your eyes but not your lungs. Resin would stay in your lungs forever reminding you of being an unsafe wood turner. Great job. Lovely bowl.
We have lots of Mesquite wood in Texas. The piece you were sent is larger than most trees I see. I really enjoyed seeing the grain pattern come out. Most times Mesquite is used to flavor our bbq. Great job.
This is a seriously beautiful piece! I grew up in San Antonio, Texas and Mesquite trees are all over the place. They are great campfire and barbecue wood because they smell wonderful but I've seen some beautiful pieces of furniture made out of it too. I really love how you chose to work this bowl!
Great work on the mesquite. It is one of my personal favorites. The look of an exotic with a local source. I mostly use it for pens and edge-grain cutting boards. Mesquite is known for voids which are commonly filled with black epoxy when used for flat work. To get a glass finish, I fill pores like it was oak with a slurry generated with sandpaper and sanding sealer.
That is one BEAUTIFUL bowl, Jim. Your lessons are great. Thanks for taking the time for us to learn. I'm always anxious for Friday to get here. Yippee, another pinecone in our future!
Good evening, Jim. I've been away for a while, time to catch up. This bowl finished beautiful. I agree with this being unusually large for Mesquite. Always thought it would be nice to turn, maybe want to rethink that. I like the white with the darker wood. Good choice. Designer epoxy.
Gotta love a natural inlay bowl... and BOY! DO I LOVE THAT BOWL! Taking nothing away from your gorgeous resin bowls etc. but it was the natural inlays that first attracted me to your channel. And we get another one next week.... anyone would think it's nearly Christmas! 🎄👏😂
Designer Epoxy Wow, once you put the finish on it it pops. The grain is amazing. Like you I’ve only used chips when smoking some meat, but never did I think it would look this good when you used the wood for something other than burning.
Agree with many others .... The wood grain is quite spectacular after varnished. I noticed the various patterning in the wood grains, lots of "movement" in the grains. Quite unique. Thanks for sharing your artistry.
Nice to see you do an inlay, it's been a while since you did one. Like the white against the dark wood. I'm in Texas with a full load of Onion's. They like Washington Onions and Apples. It's a beautiful piece good job, and thanks to your friend in Texas for sending the piece to you. 😎👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
This piece is gorgeous! The wood is really beautiful! And I really like these dark wood with light inlay or resin pieces. In general they are mong my favorites.
Designer Epoxy. This has been my favorite epoxy for the last few years. It is the best IMO. That mesquite bowl has some amazing grain in it. Well done Jim.
I admire you. I was once commissioned to build a gun stock out of Mesquite and will never forget how many times I had to sharpen my tools, it like to wore me out. Great job. Beautiful wood. Sand, Sand that's what Mesquite is known for / the wood is embeded with sand. LOL
It's great to see how you always leave me open-mouthed thinking "wooh, that's amazing". The smell of wood, the sawdust, the first rough and then soft touch, come to me when I am at home watching the video, and the job well done with that finish that you achieve with each piece, making it unique. Yup, one of my favorite channels, definitely. Tnx.
I have turned only one piece of mesquite about 12 round, and it was a pleasure to turn - I would put it up there with maybe honey locus. Always fabulous work and some great tips!
First of all, thanks for the live chat. It was nice to connect to other fans. Love the bowl. I don't have access to mesquite so I've never turned it. Looks challenging. Turned out great! Designer Epoxy
I absolutely love the bowl Jim. I recently gave a couple of pieces to my wife’s consultant and he commented that wood turning is relaxing. Not for me, I always find something wrong and suffer angst about what I should have done. I’ve also splashed out in a new 2 hp lathe. Stay safe and best regards to yourself and your family 🌞
hey Jim..i am hearing you about how hard some timber can be..i use only hardwoods in my turnings,,,i have 2 full sets of HSS,That have hardly been used in 2 years..i only use carbide now,,and youre right it is slow going..cheers
I love the highlighted tone within this piece. Absolutely stands out then most and the inlay is a beautiful accent. Great video and keep up the great work. Always appreciated after a long week.

That's a nice bowl you have there. I am a little late to the conversation but just came across this video. I live in South Texas and there is an abundance of mesquite here. I have a good size ranch and mill hardwoods that grow on it, mesquite being one of them. Don't be fooled but they can get pretty big . The problem with them I'd they they don't grow straight. Lots of twist and turns in them and burls are common. It's wonderful wood to work with and is one that you can cut and turn green and it's so stable unlike most other woods. One big down side it the stress cracks have in then along with the pith. There are a lot of inclusions found in mesquite as well as holes where ants and beetles have bored them.i have a couple of 30"+ logs I need to mill soon. The wood can vary in color from a light pink to a deep red or maroon. Burls and crotch wood have some outstanding figure in them.
Loved the grain even before the finish….getting to see “it come to life” more than once was a bonus…lol…it’s a beautiful piece…love the inlay too…👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wow, this is gorgeous, Jim! Wonderful choice with the mesquite and the alabaster, the grain of the wood is in harmony with the white of the natural inlays. So very stunning!
Je ne parle pas anglais. Vos finitions sont vraiment réussies. Difficile de trouver vos produits en Europe. Votre travail est remarquable. Bravo....vraiment

Designer Epoxy As always, an impressive turning. That is some beautiful wood. I kind of like that the inlay has two shades in it. It is as natural looking as the different aspects of the wood.

It's nice to see Inlay Jim doing inlays. That wood looks almost like walnut and the white alabaster goes well with it to make a lovely bowl.
Thank you very much

Very similar to walnut. Thanks for watching!
Agree with many others .... The wood grain is quite spectacular after varnished. I noticed the various patterning in the wood grains, lots of "movement" in the grains. Quite unique. Thanks for sharing your artistry.

One very gorgeous bowl. The alabaster highlights the grain. Mesquite has grain better than anything I've seen outside of burl wood.
Thanks for watching

Oh my gosh that finish brought out that woods natural beauty
Thanks 😊
a truly unique timber with the alabaster makes for another one of a kind piece
Thank you very much
Nailed it Jim. I've never seen a mesquite tree big enough to make a bowl that size. Most of the mesquite trees that you see are more scrub than trees.
Thank you very much!
Jim, thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
