  • THe Dastangoi exponent speaks about her journey from being a scooter mechanic’s daughter to a Dastangoi exponent and creating a niche for herself in a traditionally male dominated art form. Fouzia Dastango is the first woman story teller in the Dastangoi tradition. She has deep love for the Urdu language, literature and Dastangoi art. She has been performing professionally since 2006. Having performed over 100 shows all over India and in the UAE, she has focused her efforts on touching upon and bringing out women-centric issues through her performances. She is recognized among a select group of 112 exceptional women achievers, called “FIRST LADIES”. Those, who are first to set a milestone in their respective fields. She has recently been awarded the 'Tagore Veteran Artist Award' from Aseem Asha Foundation. As one of her unique contributions towards preserving Delhi’s cultural heritage, she has done specific work on preserving and reviving dialects of Purani Dilli, which are on the verge of extinction.
