It is quite nice to see saving Kirrahe has this effect in Mass Effect 3. Though I wish they could have just released Mass Effect 1 on the PS3, but they had a deal with Microsft. It really just limits the player options when you can only choose the major choices from Mass Effect 1 via the Mass Effect 2 interactive comic.

OK, everyone here, to save kirrahe, you need to A. Not trigger the alarm on his side of the base on Virmire and B. Go to the AA tower, not the bombsite. Otherwise he dies. C. I think it also helps to assist him throughout the mission by screwing with the geth, and taking out more of them.

You have to trigger the alarm on your side of the base on Virmire. If you trigger it where Captain Kirrahe is, he will die as will most of his squad. If you trigger it on your side, he will survive.
I put Captain Kirahee on equal footing with Shepherd. He’s got the Charisma to make speeches as impactful as Shep, knows how to lead STG just as Shep does with The Normandy, had his own version of a Suicide Mission on Virmire, and will make sacrifices if necessary.

Only thing I restarted was the suicide mission (had Thane and Miranda killed on first try) But in ME3, I didn't return to the citadel on time and Thane died alone in his bed... And miranda got killed near the end as well... That's grim... I give it a year or two. Or maybe I'll wait some remaster edition.
You have to do a whole host of things to save him and his team. U can't remember them all but search the entire map, it didn't take me long to figure everything out. Just Scan everything clean and you will miss nothing.
i think on virmire you need to keep all pressure off of kirrahae's team, that includes destroying all geth assets and not sending more troops to his team with the alarm system.
According to the walkthrough in order for him to survive you only need to take out the flyers. Personally I destroy them and take out everything else I see, including the sat-com and comm's, though triggering the alarms on the far side of the base and just disabling them has never appeared to make much of a difference in my playthroughs.

I honestly wish we could have hirrahe as number of the group him and kai'reeger in my opinion would would have been nice to see but fate had something else in mind for them
I hope you found it, but all those side things that pop up as you travel to sirens base on virmire, you have to do them, and do not send Geth reinforcements his way..and soem say don’t defend the bomb site to save the bomb person but I I’m sure that’s important to save him

Bioware missed an opportunity to give us a salarian replacement to Mordin as a squadmate.
He wouldn't have been that. Kirrahe is a straight up soldier, Mordin is a scientist.

I remember having to replay virmire once I realized that kirrahe didn't survive.
in ME1, you have to assist kirrahe during the battle on virmire by destroying drones, communication arrays, etc while on your way into the base.

You need to destroy the Geth flyers during the Virmire Assault. That's it. If you don't, he dies. If you do, he survives.

Who knew how important malin was to the whole over arcing story. Still gets me a loyalty mission character meant so much for the 3 game

Probably due to aging. Since Salarians only live up to about 40 years.
