    Thanks so much for your video! It took three of use 10 minutes to remove the bed, 30 minutes to put the package on align it and torque it down and another 10 to reinstall the bed! I can't believe the "Quicklane" center wanted $600 to install it!

    Got a quote last week to install this package from our local RV shop, they wanted 2200 in labor, 750 doesn"t sound so bad now, especially since my truck has been delayed from being built for almost a year and currently the 5th wheel package is holding it up due to covid related nonsense
    Thanks for making the video, really appreciate it!

    A most useful step by step video, Ed, considering we recently bought a 34' 5th wheel trailer, followed a few weeks later by trading in our 2015 truck for a white diesel RWD 2019 F250 with an 8' bed. So far my wife and I love the truck and the travel trailer.
    Our new truck is equipped with a 5th wheel hitch on above-bed rails. Only problem, our old truck had a goose neck hitch and our new trailer has a goose neck.
    Long story shortened a bit, I was about ready to buy the Ford prep kit, but was worried it would be a bit much for me and my wife to install at our advanced age 🤔
    Having watched another of your videos I suspect I'm old enough to be your much older brother, and our wives appear to be about the same height.
    It might take us a few days, but we have two chain hoists attached to 4" cross beams in our car port.
    I'll handle the muscle work and let my wife handle the brain part. Yes, she's the one who read the instructions.
    I will, however, let her also deal with the lower level and cramped quarter tasks.
    We are both so happy to have watched your installation video.
    Thank you.

      @Dennis Mills Congratulations on the new truck and 5th wheel Dennis! And glad to hear our video has helped inform you of what all is involved with the installation. The chain hoist sounds like it will handle the truck bed much better than the Jeep top hoist that I used. 👍🏻 Please let me know how your installation goes. Good luck!

    best video ever !!!!!I gotta get one on mine . I ordered a 2022 and they forgot to check that option. So now I have to do this 😬 and they also forgot my upfitter switches too 🙄 I took it anyway just because I didn’t want to wait any longer and dealer’s were going to charge me like $10k-$15k over sticker to buy . Just like those installer’s wanted $750 to Install wow that’s like robbery !! Nice work looks great 👍🏼👍🏼
    P.S just looked on my 2022 and they do not have those side brackets welded on , so gotta use the brackets that came with the kit ☹️

      @M W Thank you very much!! Glad it was helpful. Ford must be cutting some corners to save $ by not welding those on. At least they're in the kit though... So even more so than saving money, I was glad I installed my own kit so I knew it was being done right. Ford was going to farm it out to a 3rd party for the install and I just wasn't comfortable after speaking to them. Good luck with everything and congratulations on your new truck!!!

    Hello Ed!! I hope you two are doing well!
    Great video! ...and very comprehensive. That is awesome that you have the skills to take on these kinds of projects.
    We are special ordering our F350. Even though I quite possibly would never have a 5th wheel, I went ahead and added the 5th wheel prep package to the order. I'd possibly use the gooseneck portion.
    Truck update...our 2021 F350 Godzilla arrived to the dealer in Iowa (I ordered through a former army buddy). I was banking that my boss would be doing a Des Moines trip. But, it doesn't look like he will for awhile. So, I'll have to make means to get out there myself. With my current schedule, it could be another 2 weeks before getting out there.
    Safe travel!!

      @campingalan Good Evening Alan! Glad you liked the video. We are doing well. Currently boondocking in the Bridger-Teton National Forest with a nice window view to the Teton peaks from our dinette. Cell service isn’t great, but, oddly enough works well late at night when using the booster. You’ll have to send some pics of the new ride when you pick it up. Sounds sweet! Good idea as well on getting the option for the prep package. It’s worth the little bit of extra money when you can order it from the factory and you never know when you might change your mind on the 5th wheel. Take care and talk to you soon!

    • @campingalan
      @campingalan 3 роки тому

      @@EddieAtLarge Hi there! Oh wow....the Tetons are incredible! There are not many places in the country where you get as large of an elevation relief from the valley floor to the mountain tops like you do in the Tetons. The Sangre de Christos on the east side of the Sand Dunes National Park do that, mainly when you view them from the east side of the range by Westcliffe or Silvercliff.
      Have a good one!

    Aren't the flag nuts designed that way so that you don't need to put a wrench on them when torquing the bolt? The flag portion rotates up against the steel and is held in place there? Great video BTW!

    • @EddieAtLarge
      @EddieAtLarge  11 місяців тому

      You are correct, the flag nuts are designed for that purpose, however, I believe there was a reason I used the breaker bar on the other side (too long ago for me to recall 100%). I mentioned the wires in the conduit that may have been in the way meaning they may have been damaged if I would have let the flag nut turn up naturally. Sorry I can’t recall 100%. Regardless, once torqued to spec, those bolts should not move. I do believe I installed the upper flag bolts in the normal manner. Glad you enjoyed the video! 👍🏻✌🏻

      Thank you! I have never heard of 5th wheel hitches requiring the use of safety chains as the trailer pin is locked into the jaws for our type of hitch.
      I do believe they would be required for the Anderson style ball hitch that can be installed in the bed of the truck that also utilizes the 5th wheel prep package. I personally prefer the B&W hitch that we have over the Anderson style.

    It looks like you have a spray on bed liner after the install, but had a plastic bed liner that you took out prior to installing the prep package. Did you switch because the 5th wheel does not work with the plastic bed liner, or did you switch to a spray in liner out of preference?

    • @EddieAtLarge
      @EddieAtLarge  3 роки тому

      @Steve Buenzow I switched because I prefer the LineX spray on liner and I am very happy with that choice. I could have cut out holes in the bedliner where the pucks are located if I wanted to make the plastic liner work. I would have also had to find a way to seal around the pucks where they meet the liner if I wanted to try to waterproof it. I think that would have been a maintenance issue though. • @EddieAtLarge
      @EddieAtLarge  4 роки тому

      @David DelMonte Good question. The jeep hard top hoist that I used was rated for max 200 lbs and I'm certain that the bed weighed much much more as I had a very hard time pulling it up with that system. The bed is 8' aluminum. I searched everywhere online to try to find the weight and could not find it. I did find a thread where a guy weighed his 8' metal bed (no tail gate) and it came in at 412 lbs. I would venture to say it may weigh between 300 lbs.to 350 lbs. Just a guess though. I would not recommend using that hoist system. I think I got lucky that it held for me. I do believe 4 guys could lift it off with no problem to avoid messing with a hoist. Hope that helps answer your question! Thanks for watching.

      Here’s a link to Ford’s Accessories web page for the prep package. accessories.ford.com/kit-bracket-12754.html (The part # has changed to LC3Z-5F057-A **This is for the 2019 SUPER DUTY** - to make sure you have the right part, you can start at the accessory home page and plug in your model & year then search for “5th wheel prep package”, scroll down and click the box showing “HITCH PREP PACKAGE - 5TH WHEEL / GOOSENECK“) Once there, click on “get local pricing” and search for the dealers near you. Note: not all dealers have the same pricing and can vary by a lot. I saved around $100 on mine by checking the other dealer’s pricing in my area and not just the closest. You can order and pay online and then pick up at the dealer.

    Would this be the same kit to use for my 2020 F350?

    • @EddieAtLarge
      @EddieAtLarge  3 роки тому +1

      @Jesse Ramirez The kit that I had installed on my truck is Part #HC3Z-5F057-B for my 2019 Ford F250 Super Duty. Per the Ford Accessories website, this kit has been replaced by Part No LC3Z-5F057-A for all Super Duty Trucks, including my 2019 F250. That being said, they most likely made some minor changes to the kit and the install should be very close to the same as the kit that I installed in the video. You can order the new version kit at accessories.ford.com/vehicles/super-duty/2020.html directly from Ford and pick up at your local dealership. Note that all dealers do not have the same pricing. I saved around $90 by checking pricing for different local dealers on the Ford accessories website. Hope that helps. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

      Your video is excellent with great detail and instructions. I installed the kit on my 2018 Ford Lariat F-350 - something I would have never tried if not for your video. The only difference in the instructions that came with the kit was the order of torquing the bolts. Thanks for making the video.

      @EddieAtLarge  3 роки тому

      @Patrick Bergen I took a little over 8 hours to complete everything, however, that includes taking time to set up shots for the video. I'm also a little meticulous which certainly slowed me down. I would think it would typically take around 6 hours on average. Maybe only 4 hours if you're really mechanically inclined.

      @Dustin Field I'm not really certain to be honest. I would guess around 300lbs? The hoist I used was rated for 200lbs and I would NOT recommend it! A subscriber said in a comment below that he bought a one ton chain hoist in conjunction with straps to use for his bed removal. I also found another comment by someone who said they came across the installation instructions and template for the wiring harness on this web link: www.wrenchesandrides.com/downloads/2017_super_duty_5th_wheel_trailer_tow_kit.pdf
