    That was some pretty slick editing. So many of these do it yourself instructional videos drag on because the people that make them feel the need to film everything. It's great to see someone who manages to pack all of the necessary info (and a bit of personal charm) into a nice tight package.

    This was one of the best how-to videos I have ever seen on UA-cam. I want to get that setup on my 17 F-250 but I'm not that good to do it by myself. I'm glad that now I know at least how to do it.

    If anyone has come here to find how to do this on their truck; and they have a spray in bed liner, here's a time saving tip. Get yourself a decent chisel or, a good wide blade flat screwdriver and a tape measure. Look at the install instructions and you'll see the rough dimensions of where the holes "should be" , and you can go ahead and scrape off the bedliner over those areas in a small 2" circle. You'll be able to easily find the factory dimples in the Aluminum bed. Now you can drill and you'll have a clean install.
    Also, another tip. I was able to do mine without removing the bed, but unhooking everything, and using a jack and some 4x4 sections to lift the bed. I wedged some 4x4 chunks between the frame so give me space to slide in the mounting frame. Wasn't fun, but saved me the cost of having it installed. Been working great for 35k miles pulling a 38' Sportsman 5th wheel.

    Perfect instructional video! I would have applied some touch-up paint around the edges of the holes you holesawed - to prevent rust starting. I enjoy your videos, always comprehensive and detailed, top marks!

    It’s great to see manufacturers integrating towing hitches into the trucks, and as it appears the kit contained many details such as fasteners with loc tight already applied. I seriously considering an F 250 purchase myself I’ve been impressed by many of Fords features over the other big three and I like the 6.2 gas engine as well.

    Glad you got a new rig! Nice Ride! We just keep our old ones chugging along. Looks like there may be a good thing for working for a dealer all these years after all! AND the Farmall came to the rescue one more time! Maple leaves on the ground here too. 35 to 40 tonight. You probably have snow already! I got a pal with a machine shop to put a Reese hitch on my old Ford. Wish I still had it. 330-6, 4-speed, short bed, limited slip 4x4. Beat to death but ran fine. Now I got an 89 Taco with a 4.3 4x4 but it's paid for. What else can I say.

As well as put drain holes in the holding areas that hold moisture and debris even if just use liquid weather stripping chalking to fill in pockets gaps and voids!

    Great demonstration video. I like the way Ford made that optional kit available for those who want to install this at a later date. My truck is an "07 Chevy dually and I don't think an option like this was available. I also like the bed lift idea. I installed my FW brackets and rails in the conventional fashion, which is much more difficult and time consuming. For the longest time I've wanted to return to my standard bed when not towing but just didn't want to go through the hassle of unbolting my rails. Perhaps I'll find a gooseneck/fifth wheel combo setup somewhere that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. For now I guess I'll just have to contend with rails in my bed all the time. Again, great job on the video.

    Squatch, great video! You seem to be a great mechanic, and you describe and explain things wonderfully. I just bought the 2018 350 Superduty. It did not come from factory with the puck system, so I went to Ford Parts.com and ordered the kit. Here’s my question. The 4 ¼” and 3” holes that are drilled in be bed of the truck seem a bit large. These holes seem to give about ½” gap or a bit more. I understand that the finishing rings will cover the holes, but only by about 3/8”. Does there really need to be that much clearance, or would a 3 ½” and 2 ½” holes be sufficient? These holes would still provide ¼” clearance all the way around the whole. Just seems that removing the least amount of material is best, and not taking any chances that the cutout will sneak beyond the finishing ring. Any and all positive, helpful comments welcome, and thank you again for your videos.
    BTW, the instructions in my kit do also call for the 4 1/4" and the 3" holes.

    • @kevinohlfs2836
      @kevinohlfs2836 5 років тому +3

      Hey Squatch, thanks for the input. Interestingly enough, I had just finished my project when I saw that you posted. I did end up going with the recommended hole size, and I'm glad I did. The extra wiggle room when lowering the bed, even with the factory guide pins, was good to have. And ther really isn't excessive clearance and the rings cover nicely.
      It's very interesting that you said you do them at the dealership. Our dealership in Rapid City wouldn't touch it, said it was a liability issue.
      Anyway, thanks again, and by the way, the Moline is looking great!

    I'm thinking that this is the correct way to do things. Especially by using O.E.M. parts and accessories, they're guaranteed to fit, and I presume are also covered by Ford's warranty too, in this case?
    I was trying to see what size of engine is in that truck; I imagine it's an optional ( larger ) then stock by looks of the exhaust pipe?
    I like the looks of 'plain' model trucks, it lend's itself to be easily 'customized' at will.

    • @regsparkes6507
      @regsparkes6507 6 років тому +1

      Yeah, I kinda thought it was a tad larger gas. engine than stock. that 6.2 can haul for sure.

    I'm thinking of getting a 2018 F350 soon. What are the chances of having you do this for me? I'm not very handy, nor do I have the equipment to do it. Where are you located?

    I have a 2016 f250. My buddy gave me the puck system and brackets, just not the nuts and bolts. Do you think grade 8 bolts would work?
