For real. The rules were so clearly established. Technically he didn't riposte, as a riposte is an attack following a parry, and what he did is just a critical attack on a staggered enemy, which in the game does work the same way, but it isn't the same action. Standing close to the boss is not dodging, and the rules clearly stated that the boss missing an attack does not count as the player dodging the same attack. I remember doing something like this when the game first game out. Before it was patched, Fingerprint Stone Shield fully upgraded didn't consume any stamina on block and negated pretty much all damage, so I literally went through the entire new game + just holding L1 and poking things with my spear from behind my shield. The whole run was incredibly brain dead and incredibly easy, and I was dying laughing my whole playthrough.
As a side note, I don't think Prayerful Strike actually does any holy damage. It just does weapon damage with a high MV and has the sacred affinity by default, but I'm pretty sure that if you switch it to one of the physical affinities it will do pure physical.

yep, it reminds me of ds 1 and 2 in that regard. also the reason why im not that big a fan of bloodborne. as that game is too 1 note. you basicalyl play the exact same way but using diferent weapons that dont change it that much. and before people come talking about how in BB weapons are more unique, they kinda are, but changing them is not that diferent from 2-handing in other souls like.
@@marcosdhelenono, changing weapon form is nothing like two handing, but you can tell yourself that if you want. You can dislike bloodborne, but this is just plain false. Every attack combos with every followup you choose. In other souls game R1 combos with R1 and R2 with R2, and that's that. Sometime you get a R1-R2 combo, but that's it. Hitting different button simply disrupts the flow of the action and resets the combo. Which is fine for souls game since they play at a much slower pace, but weapons definitely have less than 1/3 of the options and movesets bloodborne has. The changing form attacks have a moveset of their own. Two handing is an action that stays the same for every weapon, changing form is an actual attack and plays right into the fast pace of bloodborne. Again, it's fine if you don't like it, but the comparison makes no sense.
@@giulioceresini1435 " In other souls game R1 combos with R1 and R2 with R2" this clearly shows you are talking out of your ass. seriously, there's a channel dedicated to DS1 pvp, and he proves that this is just false. many weapons not only can combo r1s into r2, but you can also combo using rolls, side steps, running and jump attacks. some spears for example, have thrusts in the r1, but sweeps in the r2. and you can easily combo them. so many weapon combos allow for roll catches in ds1. just look at the broad sword moveset and tell me you cant combo it. in some cases you can combo stuff other weapons cant, like the reinforced club, allowing jump attack into r2 for a second jump attack. and that's DS1, which is only not as clunky as DeS. in other games like DS2 and 3, it becomes even easier to combo stuff. specially in 3, as some weapon arts were designed to literary be comboable with r1s or r2s.
From most of what I’ve seen, the reason why Great Stars and Prelate’s Charge work well together is because people cast Bloodflame Blade alongside. That way you get extra bleed over time applying on top of the weapon’s bleed, extra fire damage alongside the Charge, and the flame trails also having the bleed effect going as well
Yeah, I ran that for a bit along with Winged Sword Talisman and Godskin swaddling cloth, that build can get nutty with the right Sacred Flask/Talisman combos.
It must have taken a lot of discipline to not instinctively dodge what you know is for sure going to destroy you. Lmao. Makes me laugh every time. Well done Tarnished.
Fun Fact: The Bull Goat Talisman raises effective poise by 33%. It reduces poise damage by 25%, meaning all enemies do 3/4, inverting that, you have effectively 4/3 normal poise, i.e 133%
@@jojolafrite90I hate to say it but 4/3 is exactly 133.33% rounded 4/3 = 1.3333 rounded By the definition of percentage, 1.33 * 100 = 133.33 and 1*100 = 100 Therefore 133.33/100 = 133.33% as percent is literally “per 100”
I mean no matter how he does it he won't be able to replicate a bad or new player tbh, it's a great video but still doesn't make the difficulty complaints about the game less valid
Honestly, the most impressive thing about these runs is that for a lot of them, you probably have to unlearn quite a lot of habits, such as rolling out of the way of certain attacks.
Maybe I should do this type of challenge. Then again, it wouldnt be a challenge as thats me normally. But for someone who doesnt know how to block maybe itd help.

Absolutely love the science being done here. Never thought I'd see the day someone take every hit possible in a game that primarily kills in two hits at higher end bosses. Well Done and Well Played!
This knowledge can be googled but that's about the only saving grace for the challenge. Granted even someone not trying to git gud would learn something from a fight and get a successful dodge or run away at some point
@@JaydenLand Anyone who is a souls virgin isn't simply googling and even then figuring it all out or succeeding half as well as he did (which isn't necessarily superb)
I just have to say, that character creation looks sick. At night it kinda looks like a hazmat suit and it feels so surreal to have something modern looking in the Lands Between.
In a way, this whole challenge was symbolic the very reason we all play these games by FROM Software. No matter how many times your character is battered and beaten, he stands again to face the challenge head on. Admirable, really.
Actually I played cause I heard it had inspiration from Dragon's Dogma. I now know that guy was lying through his teeth, but when I started I was looking for a faster greatsword, so it would at least be comparable to DD. Had to put that away and grab a shield and something faster (also, it bugs me that you can 1 hand 2 handed weapons, though I prefer to 1 hand great swords specifically as 2 handing it your character acts like its heavier than in 1 hand).
Honestly a similar challenge that might be harder would be a panic roll version of this You have to dodge any movement of any enemy, and have to panic roll at least 3 times per roll to simulate someone bad as well You could also do it where you roll every attack until out of stamina
One thing I always do that actually might help you since you seem to mess up your item bar a lot - I put the red flask on the quick toggle + left dpad and the blue flask on the right dpad buttons. I also put the physik on theh top and torrent on the bottom, so I never need to cycle through my quickbar to quickly use any of those items.
Thats actually exactly where my flasks are. Sucks for me, but Im too used to it now to change it. I hate how it forces you to change your grip or stop moving though, which is why I prefer them on my item bar.
Funny how out of all the "tank" runs with poise being an important thing and noone remembered about Fia's buff which increases your poise significantly with about 10% HP trade. Plus you can actually get a hug so that'd be another win
The buff only lasts 15 seconds, it's more likely that people just don't bother with it since it's not worth the trade. One could make an argument for the radiant variant of the buff which lasts for 70 seconds but is only obtainable once in a playthrough, can't be stored, you can't hold more than 1 and it doesn't carry over to NG+. They're simply not worth using. Hugs are nice though.
I think your strategy with Rykard was definitely acceptable. With these special playthroughs you do, there has to be some room for certain bosses. Awesome job man. These do help me realize the advantages of some of these builds you do.
Considering it's right there as soon as you enter the arena I think it's safe to assume that even new players are going to eventually figure that one out. To take that a step further, any new player gathering enough info to find all this gear is absolutely gonna know about Serpent Hunter going into that fight, so either way I agree that it's fine.
And also most people arent gonna know about the spear going in the first time. So theyre gonna kill him in the lava. Or be like me, thing the skill looks dumb (or how the character looks performing it), and decide to not use it. Or sell, I forgot which. I did try it out a bit but I kept getting hit, and yet somehow missing him. So Black Knife Tiche and Black Knife it was.
I think seeing you do a run where you complete as many NPC quest lines as possible would be neat. As an added bonus, for any NPCs that die or "die" you could play as them, or as closely to them as possible. Switch when the next one dies, or whatever.
38:44 is an extremely based take, he has so much reach that getting in close and trying to find the blindspots in his attacks is more effective than any attempt at spacing
Not necessarily. I managed to stubborn my way through fights eventually, except Godrick cause hes easy. I thought I was gonna die about 2000 times (twice as much as to Margit). Ended up murdering him a few seconds in. I hate using guides on my first playthroughs, so I didnt use a guide until I had literally nothing left to do before Altus outside of that one corner of Caelid.
What a clever challenge. To “play the game like someone who’s never played before.” Except I think you limited yourself too much because even someone who has never played before would see a big boss coming at them while they are at low health and try to run away to heal. You did more than your fair share my man. Great job :)
And would someone who has never played before know where every single item is and which one's to get. Or know when to attack with which wepon and when to heal in a boss.
@@June26A7 i’d say it evens out considering he actively tried to get hit half the time. even the worst of the worst players imaginable would perform better.
My first spell caster playthrough was basically that because of how much a glass cannon I was, I basically said "F IT I'm gonna cast this spell and either I will die or YOU will." Its actually not the guaranteed victory people think it is, its a coin toss on the boss standing in the right position long enough.
That was my failed I dont wanna dodge strategy. How do people get it to work the way they do? (Rhetorical question, Ive used EVERY buff Ive seen others use and it doesnt work the same, somehow. For most builds. And not for the same reason the last guy said, it just simply didnt work)

But the DS 2 still have more uniqueness
yep, it reminds me of ds 1 and 2 in that regard. also the reason why im not that big a fan of bloodborne. as that game is too 1 note. you basicalyl play the exact same way but using diferent weapons that dont change it that much.
and before people come talking about how in BB weapons are more unique, they kinda are, but changing them is not that diferent from 2-handing in other souls like.
@@giulioceresini1435 " In other souls game R1 combos with R1 and R2 with R2"
this clearly shows you are talking out of your ass.
seriously, there's a channel dedicated to DS1 pvp, and he proves that this is just false. many weapons not only can combo r1s into r2, but you can also combo using rolls, side steps, running and jump attacks.
some spears for example, have thrusts in the r1, but sweeps in the r2. and you can easily combo them.
so many weapon combos allow for roll catches in ds1.
just look at the broad sword moveset and tell me you cant combo it. in some cases you can combo stuff other weapons cant, like the reinforced club, allowing jump attack into r2 for a second jump attack.
and that's DS1, which is only not as clunky as DeS. in other games like DS2 and 3, it becomes even easier to combo stuff. specially in 3, as some weapon arts were designed to literary be comboable with r1s or r2s.

Honestly a similar challenge that might be harder would be a panic roll version of this
You have to dodge any movement of any enemy, and have to panic roll at least 3 times per roll to simulate someone bad as well

I'm probably going to fall asleep long before this video ends, but if there's one thing I've learned about these "Can I beat Elden Ring while" videos..... the answer almost always yes. So....good job man!
FINALLY someone playing the game as intended. Well done good sir!
@Guilty2805 he said finally someone playing the game as intended 🙄
He said "FINALLY someone playing the game as intended. Well done good sir!" I guess that means I beat it as intended too.
That is why I always keep my healing on a hold "Y" slot. Never have to worry about having the wrong thing selected
A strength/faith build is very appropriate here because *_MY FACE IS MY SHIELD_*
Not mine. I think someone painted my face on my shield.
lion’s claw is definitely one of my favorite AoWs. the animation looks incredible, does great damage and using it to dodge attacks is just so fun.
I used Scarlet Aeonia against the dlcs final boss for that reason.
This low key feels like Master Chief taking every situation head on, like a brick
When you are too good and kinda want to flashback to the first time you played Elden Ring.
22:13 the cutoff where you woulda got decked if actions didnt make you immune was too funny
This "no dodging" looks mighty and powerful. Very satisfying to watch.
I can't think of any other person who had his money's worth out of this game more than you. I have watched all of these challenges and loved every part of it. Gr8 wrk m8!
The sleep pots line is so funny because EXACTLY what I was thinking by the third run.
that one chatter during volcano manor godskin that put !run and then said 'you madman' made me laugh. amazing comedic timing
