  • The Case of the Body in the Sack - An Irish Murder Story
News of the Times Episode 382 | 1928
1927 County Louth Ireland. The good Reverend M’Keone has two staff within his house who sadly do not get along. 28 year old Mary Callan who runs all things pertaining to his household, and Gerard Toal, an 18 year old young man who takes care of all things pertaining to the outside of the premises such as gardening and car mechanics.
The relationship between Mary and Toal starts off badly when she refuses to do his laundry. Toal’s response when negated or upbraided is one of sullen and simmering quiet. Mary, who keep an eye on the young lad believes she has caught him stealing eggs and reports the matter to her employer, reverend M’Keone. There is no proof, other than her word. Toal is once again upbraided and now he is in simmering anger.
Shortly thereafter, Reverend M’Keone goes away to a conference and comes back home in the evening to find no Mary. He never sees her again.
The disappearance of Mary consumes her best friend Peggy. Eventually, much through her efforts, Mary is found - in parts.
We take a look at this extraordinary story - the background, the characters, the build-up, and the capture of the murderer of the Body in the Sack in County Louth, Ireland.
    Hosted by Robin Coles.

As always I very much enjoyed your video. My heart goes out for the young lady family. Not knowing what and ware she was for a year must have been terrible. R.C. and team thank you for all your hard work putting out these videos. Take care

The Reverend's household must've been full of tension and hidden resentments!! It seems like the priest favoured Mary over Gerald, and refused to listen to his side of the story regarding the stolen eggs!! Maybe Gerald just flipped?! Whatever the reasons, the unfortunate Mary didn't deserve her awful fate!!
Thank you for telling this Irish tale, Robin and team!! ❤💕💙💙💞👏

Poor Gerald from a strict orphanage to a household run by a spinster snitch, who just had to tell Father every little sin he committed. He never really had a chance, dead at 20. Not that he should have murdered her. Sad story.❤

No sympathy is needed for Gerald the psychopath.
